This is my theory on how Makuta Shape-Shifts:

Makuta went from a Tohunga, To a Vortex of Infected Peices controled by an Infected Mask
Later he went from a Vortex of infected pieces controled by a Kraahkan (see recent update), to Makuta 2003.

I have concluded, by these facts, that Makuta can only shapeshift into a swirling mass of pieces fontroled by a mask, and then, if he wants a diffrent form, the pieces all combine into it, and the new form has the mask he has chosen. That is why Makuta 2003 has that look where he is kinda scrapped together with loads of diffrent pieces. What do you think? Post your opinion here.

Well, he IS a god. Gods can be anything they want. He is a void. That is his kind of a default form. From there he can change into anything he chooses.

That makes alot of sense. I like the idea of the swirling mass of pieces coming together to form something else. Then, when he gets bored of being a certain form, all the pieces go back up into the swirling mass again.

See, he's got this bucket. Periodically he has to return to a liquid form... What? Sorry, wrong shape shifter.
Seriously, that's an interesting point. I thought the swirling pieces behind the Kraahkan were just a reference to the MNOLG, and had no real significance, but this theory explains them equally well.

Yes...

Makuta's spirit form is the Void we see.
whenever he needs a physical form, he uses those pieces swirling around the Void to make one.

I believe his latest one is indeed a great shell to house his spirit.
