Matrixo Nuva
I didn`t understand the use of protodermis. The Toa transformed in it to Nuvas, the Powerless KN are Protodermis and if a Kraata become contact with Protodermis, it will become a Rahkshi. What is it now??? a mask, a gel or a stone or anything other???????? huh.gif what is it. i`m very, very confused! wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif

What do you mean 'what is it now?', do you mean what it effects or what form it is in!

Protodermis, is the silver liquidy substance that changes anything it touches, so the matoran must take extra care on not touching it, as it kills matoran(or so I heard). Portodermis is also the substance that the matoran use to make tools, such as drills, disks, staffs, and an assortment of many other things. So protodermis is like a living substance you could say.

There is a topic called, "The Biology of Bionicle" somewhere in this forum that talks a little about what protodermis is, here is the link Biology of Bionicle

If Protodermis kills matoran then how can they mine it and make tools out of it. Protodermis only changes things destined to changed as said by GregF in this qoute

Having elemental powers does not automatically mean you are going to change if you are exposed to liquid protodermis. You only change if it is your destiny to be changed. Otherwise, it does not affect you (if it did, why wouldn't all the Matoran and Turaga be hunting for liquid proto so they could get bigger and stronger?)

Greg

We still know very little about protodermis even with the info Greg has given us

Protodermis (or proto-D) as I call it. Is "The stuff of Life" The Onu-Matoran mine it in its solid form and use it to build all sorts of things. The liquid version is much rarer than the solid. It changed the Toa and Kraata. But it only changes things if it is their destiny to change. If you throw a rock in it nothing will happen.(unless its supposed to turn into rock nuva! lol) Legend has it there are giagantic resevoirs if Proto-D underground somewhere, but no one has ever found them.............

Liquid protodermis does not kill Matoran.

There are two kinds of protodermis that we know about so far -- solid and liquid. We have seen liquid protodermis transform the Toa into Nuva, but we do not know yet if ALL liquid protodermis can transform or if something special has to be done to it for that to happen.

Solid protodermis is mined in Onu-Koro and used to build pretty much everything on the island.

You should learn a great deal more about protodermis over the next year or two.

I think Proto-dermis is some kind of powerful liqued metel.

Check this link. Mechanical-Biology Database. It will explain absouloutly (sp?) everything and much more about Protodermis.

There ya go, official answer. Thanks Greg! smile.gif

You say we're gonna find out more about proto next year? ALLLLL RIIIIIGGGGHHTTTT!!!!!! tongue.gif

I'll give you my veiw on proto....now, this is all rooted in facts about proto, btu some of what I think about the actual nature of proto is unproven. Anyways, I think of Protodermis as a viscous liquid.....not quite syrup but definitely not water. It's properties are unbeknowst to us humble humans and matoran sitting at our computers clicking away, but we do know that those whose destiny is to be transformed by it....The Toa (who became Toa Nuva) and Kraata (Who became Rahkshi) are two prime examples. Protodermis can be solidified, perhaps through a process similar to freezing, but it of course deosn't melt. Solid proto is the Mata-Nui equivalent of good ol' steel, and it can be used to make just about anything. Now, solid protodermis can be mined like coal, and liquid protodermis technically can be mined like oil, but since locations of liquid protodermis are hidden deep underground, in places the Matoran don't know about, they can't mine it. The Toa were shot through the "Proto Tubes" when they defeated the Bahrag Queens. The Proto Tubes, apparently (but it still hasn't been confirmed) were created by the same people who made the exo-toa. It's possible that they're also the same people who made the Kanohi. These tubes are basically like long slides filled with protodermis, that drain out into a vast cavern. Makuta used some sort of "Proto Tank" to evole the Rahkshi. My only guess is that he made these, and took Proto from undergroudn to fill them with. There is plenty of liquid P in sporatic places undergound Mata Nui, and in once place there is a huge pool of it. We just don't know where.

Now that was my take on proto, here's a list of the known facts:

  • Protodermis has two forms, solid and liquid
  • solid protodermis, which is mined by the matoran (namely, the Onu-Matoran), can be used o build just about anything
  • Liquid Protodermis is a mysterious substance, about which not much is known (yet, at any rate)
  • Liquid Proto evolved the Kraata into the Rahkshi and the Toa into the Toa Nuva
  • There is Liquid Protodermis in scaterred locations underground Mata Nui
  • There is a large quantity of Liquid Protodermis in one area of the Mata-Nui Underground

That's all we know for SURE. Everything else I said above it was an educated speculation based on shaky information I've rooted out in different places. smile.gif

Does that clear proto up for ya? wink.gif

Know what would be funny? If the next Protodermis we found out about was gas protodermis!!! Then there'd be solid, liquid and gas. Oh o o that would be funny lol!!!!
Lupus Black
Yes... glare.gif

Anyway, with the imminent release of the film, and this being a Protodermis-based thread, i suppose I can tell you, that the combined powers of the Toa Nuva form solid Protodermis.
T.K
I knew that lupus. I thought every1 else did too. Didn't they transform cuz they sent their blasts into 1 shot?
Makuta Master
I think Greg's post cleared this up pretty well. Thanks.
