do you believe that mata-nui and makuta are really gods? i dont think so, they are not indestructible cuz makuta have to be destroyed when the toa want to awake mata-nui and if they do....
(i think makuta and mata are elemental forces the light and shadow.)
Exo-Guy
Nobody said they are, I believe. I think they are just Great Spirits and came from heavens, or so Matoran believe. Maybe they are just normal beings gifted with a bit of power and skills... I don't see them as gods, but as Wise and Evil.
nyugvo6
oops yeah you have right but the matoran worship him like a god
TakaNuva Vahi Master
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're gods. Either that or Makuta has an amazing amount of reziliance. It doesn't mean gods can't destroyed. Although if Makuta isn't, maybe he will be imprisoned like the Bahrag.

Remember that anything can be considered a "god" of one kind or another.

All it takes is for a few people to worship something, and it becomes a god to them. Hence, the Matoran worship Mata Nui, therefore Mata Nui is their god.

The thing is, ,,god'' means originally a person of unlimited power, immortal and indestructible, capable of create and destroy. He is supposed to make whole Earth. That is the original meaning of the word.
taint
They are just spirits that came down from paradise and makuta put mata-nui to sleep.
Matoro
I believe some consider them gods, but they're not godlike beings IMHO...
Yuna~Hibiscus
Think of Stargate SG-1, the Gou'ld (SP?) are not gods, yet they
were worshipped by the Jaffa.
Interceptor
I think that if LEGO made Mata-Nui and Makuta like "gods" it would be a tad too sacreligious. They are basically the spirits that created life and death.

Well they could be gods but any idol could be worshipped. Makuta and Mata-nui have god-like powers so they people of Mata-nui obviously have a great deal of respect for mata-nui!
Holla Back Girl
well just because they are gods doesnt mean they are undefeatable. in many beliefs, such as Norse and Greek mythology, gods were able to be killed, or defeated. so yeah makuta and mata nui are great beings, or gods, but they can be defeated.
Novu-Atu
That is the one thing I don't like about Bionicle, the astrologers and the Great spirits. Bionicle would have been just as good without those parts.
Vader
They are Low ranking gods probably, but they are described as great beings, wich means gods, And a god can kill a god, this is another universe, anything can happen, take the book called everworld for instance
Cozmo
I guess in are Imagination we could call them a nonexisting god.
Kopaka Avenger
In the most technical sense Mata-Nui would be considered a diety, i.e., a god. But they seem to refer to him as a spirit.

But Makuta is not a god
Sidorak Ruler
Mata Nui is like a god to the matoran, because Mata Nui gave them paridise, and Makuta is like the devil and his Rahkshi are the demons in my advice.
