I'm starting to think that Makuta ain't truly evil.I think he is just posessed.
Because he is Mata Nui's brother. If 04 is about the past,we may find out.

No I do believe that Makuta is evil , this is because he put Mata-nui asleep because of jealosy that his brother was honored , but he wasn't , so he tried to fix that , but as you can you it didn't work out .

I think he is evil. Not all brothers end up good in the end. I mean he IS the essence of evil. He's a void too! How can that be good? And if not the mask of shadows, what mask would he have?

If makuta was possessed what would he be possessed by? Would he be possessed by a great bea=ing that has turned evil?

Maybe he is posessed by a shadow lord from a realm
Like Hades.

Wait do you mean Hades was possesed ? He wasn't , but he was like Makuta , greedy and jealous of his brother and all the power and honor given to him .

Here is a PM I sent to Greg once that may intrest you guys (or girls).
My PM
I have often wondered how Makuta was intended to be portrayed, is he a character who has depth and was envius of Mata Nui as the matorans had so much affection for him and that was his motivation or was he a stereotypical evil figure who just wanted to enjoy ripping the matoran from their idol and watch them suffer the loss. In other words is he a killjoy who gains happyness at others pain or a complex villian with layers who wants the devotion of the matoran?
GregF's
He is much more complex than people realize, as will be revealed over the next few years.

Evil, in his own way. Much like Yogatoa presented him there. He seemed to want to live up to his brother, but being the "Shadow Lord" he is, he was feared and battled by the Matoran. Nothing is simple, and nothingness is also complex.
Him being possesed by a "Evil Lord" wouldn't make much sense. He is a void, so who can control a void? I think it's much like Yin-yang. Because there are Toa and Mata-Nui, there must be a balance to that by evil. The balance may not always be present, but there must be balance at some point.
