Spaz- The Toa of Fear
Well, Makuta was never truly evil, he was just misunderstood. He put Mata Nui to sleep to protect him from suffering, but everyone thought he was trying to destroy them all.
DanielJ
so, Darth Vader turning good again and saving the galaxy by killing the EVIL Emporer and saving his son is a bad thing? glare.gif

rtfm.gif in the case of Makuta, Takatanuva is influensed by Light (Takanuva) and simply used Makuta's powers to rivive Jaller

I don't ever care if a bad guy becomes good. The Rahi are accully the animals on Mata-Nui. Makuta was good from the beginning. IMO nothing is good from the beginning.

Takanuva took off his mask to he went temperairaly unconcious, so Takanuva got to control the Takutanuva body.

No no, Makuta was evil.

Basically, when the consciousnesses of Makuta and Takanuva merged, it created a whole new one- Takutanuva. This new consciousness believed himself to be doing what he thought was right (Makuta), but the knowledge of Takanuva showed him the error of his ways.

Seeing as how Takutanuva is a merging of two 'souls', and one of them had a brother, they now, whilst merged, both had a brother. Hence the "Our brother must be awakened" line.

Now, we still don't know if Makuta truly was evil, or just misguided (though I know GregF has hinted more towards the evil side), bit I reckon it was just simplified for the movie.

The other thing to remeber here is that just because Takutanuva appeared to be "good" by giving life back to Jaller, he has now been unmerged and Makuta is back to just being himself. I don't think he will be "good" now, after all, Lego has spent two years telling us he's the "bad" guy so why would they change him now?

What I find really weird is how everyone can take one small conversation between two enemies in a battle and make a determination and ignore two years worth of story which tells us what type of people each of these characters is.

Yes, but when have we ever actually seem Makuta do anything? We haven't seen him weave his spell of shadows, we haven't seen him deliberately strike out at the Matoran, all we've seen is him defending himself against intruders.

I'm not saying he's not evil, but much of his reputation is hearsay.

Nathanial Hawethorne once said that "There is no such thing as evil; it is merely the absense of good." So Makuta isn't really evil, he's just the opposite of Mata Nui, who is everything good. He saw how Mata Nui, who symbolizes creation, created the beauty of his island and brought the Matoran down to it. Makuta became jealous, put Mata Nui to sleep, and tried to get the Matoran to worship him. When they didn't, he got angry and began destroying their island. So Makuta isn't bad; he's just a misunderstood victim of jealousy and rage.

Personally I think he is good, BUT no one knows for sure. Lego left us hanging. But this is the story if he is good.

Mata nui is in considerable pain so Makuta to sedate his brother puts him into a sleep where he feels no pain. He tries to look after the Matoran in Mata nui's absence but they rebel thinking he is evil and try to awake Mata nui. Makuta then thinks the Matoran are evil because he thinks they are deliberatly trying to hurt Mata nui. Thus Makuta infects masks to control Matoran and prevent them from awakening Matan nui. He also gets Rahi to keep them in line and gets the Rahi to guard the kanohi as he fears they will use them against him.

hints are in MNOLG1 the "I stand side by side with Mata nui I am his brother" doesn't stand side by side with imply being on his side? Also notice he was hesitant to unleash the Rahkshi as he didn't want to hurt the matoran (just the toa) he just wanted to get the MOL.

In the barns and nobles books Makuta soothingly talks to the sleeping Mata nui When No One is there. He can't be a lier if he is lieing to no one.

Also as for Jallers death it wasn't Makuta's fault as the guy THREW HIMSELF ON TURRAHKS STAFF! If you ask me he had a deathwish.

Speaking for evil...
"I stand side by side with Mata Nui: I am his brother" does not mean Makuta isn't evil. It's just a roundabout way of saying they're siblings. Above would mean father, below would mean son.

Makuta wasn't hesitant to release the Rahkshi, his quote was really just to signify to us that the Rahkshi realy are quite nasty, and should only walk in the darkness. Hence the dark side. Hence evil.

Ragarding talking to Mata Nui - Who else has he to talk to? I talk to myself but that doesn't mean the evil outer me is calming the good inner me. Wait...

And Jaller- It's his Duty, as Captain of the Ta-Koro Guard, to protect the Matoran.

evil
1 a) morally bad or wrong b) resulting from or based on conduct regarded as immoral
2 causing pain or trouble; harmful; injurious
3 offensive or disgusting
4 threatening or bringing misfortune; unlucky; disastrous; unfortunate

Makuta is evil by definition. He may believe he is doing good, but even his personal thoughts and desires are evil in nature.
There are many examples of people thinking they are Right, when their actions can only be described as evil. Hitler is a good example.
Generally speaking, most evil persons are misguided, self serving, bullying, hostile, destructive... In short, insane to some degree.
I personally know of an individual who thinks they are doing the right thing, but their actions continually disrupt and destroy the lives around them.
For short periods of time an evil person can be good and do good, but when the positive influence leaves, they revert back to type.

Makuta is evil. Makuta is misguided. Makuta is insane. All different ways of saying the same thing. The guy needs help. Anyone who believes Makuta is good is simply ignoring the facts.
Talk like this is why dangerous people are released from prison to roam the streets.
Think about it.

When Takanuva and Makuta immereged, Takanuva was stronger so he was in total control of Makuta and himself. Makuta had no idea what was going on. cool.gif

Makuta - Bad
Takanuva - Good
Takutanuva - Both sides of the coin.
It was not Makuta who revived the lost soul of Jaller, but the sum of light and dark. At least, it makes more sense to me.

Last point:
Makuta - Bad
Makuta Master
Makuta thought what he did was right. He was saving his brother pain. He had good motives, his ways of enforcement are just harsh.

He's still bad at heart.
