Okay, this is may be wrong, but I'm gonna write this anyway:
I found a word in the bionicle lexicon on Bionicle.com. The word is "Brakas", they say that Brakas is the name of an ape-like creature. (GregF, are you there?)
The weird thing is, that TLC has never provided any information about that ape. No pictures, no legends, no nothing. Without the word in the lexicon, we even wouldn't know it's there.
Let's move on to my theory:
I think that the brakas was an extinct species of ape that lived on Mata-Nui, and, in some point of time, the brakas evolved into the early matoran, which look like the 2003 or maybe even the 2004 matoran.
An ice age, a natural disaster or animals with higher position in the food chain, forced those "Cave-Matoran" to hide beneath the surface, which means, in Matru-Nui. There, Mata-Nui came and gave them culture, turning the scavenging, perhaps even cannibalistic, ape-like cave-matoran into more civilized lifeforms. Then, Makuta came and turned them to McToran, and the toa arrive, and all the bla-bla-bla begins.
What do you think? Post commens please!

That is a really good theory! Maybe because they lived so long ago that that is why there isn't much information about them. The evolution theory of bionicle, huh?
Mr. Onua
I don't quite agree with the theory on evolution. However, those new models in the building section of bionicle.com. There are some ape like creatures. Maybe those are the brakas.

How is an ape meant to get underground? And anyway if they went underground where did the rest of the matoran come from?
Trogdor: The Burninator.
i don't aggree... partly because macro evolution is stuipid...

you don't have any proof what so ever either.

another thing, the 2003 are a higher form of mctoran. makuta can't change the matoran-he would have done it again.

another thing. ice ages don't happen on a paradises, am i right? remember in the trailer of MOL? the narrator says in the time before time mata-nui was an island paradise.

in summary: your theory is wrong.

No offense to the theory but pleanty of things in Lexicon are never mentioned outside Lexicon such as the Daikau, Madu, Madu Cabolo, Vatuka, Vuata Maca and others. So it may have just been a idea so TLC would hope you would build your own.

Don't forget Vuata Maca crystal also brakas from what I know still exist and Matoran did not evolve from apes .

Hmmm... I like this theory, CD. The Brakas could have "evolved" into the Matoran, and that Ice Age part fits in too. That might just be crazy enough to work... rolleyes.gif

Good theory, CD. We should ask GregF about it, and see what he thinks. smile.gif
MOX
As if the idea of human evolution wasn't far-fetched enough glare.gif But let's say that it was that way. I think it makes perfect sense. Metru-Nui is still a big mystery, but that's what makes real theories, right?

Yes mox, and appearing out of sand isn`t far fetched at all.. rolleyes.gif

( note: I do believe in god and jesus)

Anyway, on the subject, I dont think they intended it that way, they just said gorilla to describle it to the people who read the website, so they ahve something they can picture it as in their minds.

Closing to prevent spam/flame/and any other rudities.

Evolution starts getting in on the religious level...and that doesn't go on BZ.
