I wonder, why the Kanohi were make? Who really make those mask, then? Why the mask can be found at the wildland of Mata-Nui while the mask is created on Metru-Nui?

I always wondered why they were made. I guess the Mask Maker had a plan. But why did he leave them on Mata-Nui? If he made them on Metru-Nui, how did they get to Mata-Nui?
