i don't understand how mata-nui is so advanced. especially since it sort of takes place in an early time period era. please post your thoughts on this subject.
Winged Serpent
Uh, do you mean Metru Nui? Because Metru Nui seems to be the advanced one. If that's the case, please continue in the Official 2004/Metru Nui Topic.

Yogata toa of the moon
It is no where near advanced compared to the technology on Metru nui in the past. The paradise of Mata nui may have been being at one with nature and living off resources not having big cities. They are now considerably less advanced.
Master of the Rahkshi
What do you mean by advanced? If you mean mechanically, that's only in the MNOLG1, and did not happen in the real storyline.

Winged serpent is right in both cases and yes Metru Nui is more advanced . So lets close this and go to the Metru Nui topic .

This is something that apprently has been discussed before, in this older topic Technology of Mata-Nui. It discusses the possibilities and reasons for all the machinery and equipment for such a "primitive" island.

Obviously, there was not even a hint of a clue of Metru-Nui, which is much more advanced, but it's a helpful article.

Well in the Onu-koro tunnels in MNOLG one of the Matoran are holding a hand-held-touch-pad-thing with a flashing green light on it.

Greg said that the Matorans didn't have computers on Mata-Nui, and MNOLG is kind... sketchy on facts, so take it with a grain of salt. smile.gif

And Mata-Nui is... well, it's not really comparable to out civilization, because of the way they are. But, I would say that they are far from "advanced". They use discs as weapons (ok, so it's TLC's NVP (Non Violence Policy)) and so one (the elevator in Le-Koro is probably the best thing I'd think of as "Technologicly advanced")
SilverAkaku
They are mechanicaly advanced possibly because they themselves are mechanical and have from that learned a thing or two about machinery.

The Matoran supposedly came from a more advanced civilization.
The Turaga are aware that the Matoran have forgotten most of what they knew.
Without access to the technology they grew up with, the Matoran were forced to make do with what they had in order to survive.
Luxury items, like running water, electricity, gas heat, refrigeration, automobiles, would be gone and would take second or last place in the list of necessities.
If you and a group of 400 people were stranded on an island, how quickly do you think you would build a modern city?
1. You would have to deal with food, shelter, protection from the animals, gathering resources, building of the tools needed to gather the resources, building of the equipment to build those tools...
2. Then you need the means to process these resources, while maintaining step 1.

All this while someone is sapping your strength and memory, and reducing you to a weaker being than you once were.

The Matoran didn't create their civilization on Mata Nui, they adapted to their situation with the tools they had, and have only started to regain the knowledge they had lost when we entered the picture. They still had some items from when they arrived, which would explain the data devices.
But then again, the comics never showed any truly advanced equipment other than what the Onu-Matorans had been using in their mining.
All of the movies and games are based on the comics, so if they contradict what is in the comics, then you should chalk it up to 'artistic license' and not take it up as fact in the BIONICLE universe.

They are mechanically advanced possibly because they themselves are mechanical and have from that learned a thing or two about machinery.

That is like saying humans are advanced in making organic machines because we ourselves are organic and have from that learned some things about making creatures.
No, I think that, having come from a more advanced civilization to begin with, the Matoran have merely managed to retain some of the knowledge they originally started with.
