| Notes |
Long ago, the Brotherhood of Makuta was formed, comprised of the Makuta, whose job it was to serve Mata Nui and protect the universe. They eventually turned evil and betrayed the Great Spirit, poisoning him and eventually sending him into an endless sleep. The leader of this rebellion was the Makuta assigned to protecting Metru Nui.
After Makuta failed to seize Metru Nui and the residents fled to the island of Mata Nui, Makuta followed them and beset their newly-built villages with infected Rahi for centuries, preventing them from returning home.
Takua later summoned the Toa Mata, who fought back Makuta's Rahi and then confronted him themselves. They won the battle, but Makuta unleashed the Bohrok onto the island while he took time to recover. Once the Toa had defeated the Bohrok as well, all seemed to be peaceful, until the discovery of the Mask of Light.
Makuta unleashed six Rahkshi to retrieve the mask before the Toa of Light could be found, but they failed. Takua transformed into Takanuva, who then defeated Makuta and combined with him to form Takutanuva. Takutanuva opened the gateway to Metru Nui and gave up some of Makuta's life force to revive Jaller. He was then crushed under the massive door, shattering Makuta's armor and dispersing his energies.
When the Piraka raided his lair, Makuta convinced them to go to Voya Nui and get the Mask of Life. Makuta followed them and disguised himself as antidermis. When the Piraka lost the mask, Makuta's energies took control of the robotic Maxilos. |
