Toy Fair 2008: But Wait, There's More!
Hot Bionicle NewsSaturday, February 23rd, 2008 at 5:16pm by Andrew M, BZPower Reporter

Due to various factors, including space limitations, not all upcoming Lego sets were on display at the Lego Collector's Party last weekend. However, as we departed we were both given the 2008 Lego Press Guide, which contains pictures of all the sets released and to-be-released this year. Thanks to the magic of a scanner, we will now give you a look at the rest of the new sets for this summer. Read on and enjoy!

The Lego Creator line, which celebrates the classic Lego building experience, has three new sets this summer.

    Cool Convertible Stegosaurus Transport Ferry

Technic is well-represented this summer, with three large sets and a power accessory pack. The Off-Roader set, the most expensive Lego set to be released this year, also has a motor and power functions.

    Excavator Off-Roader

    Telehandler Power Function Accessory Box

There are many new City sets this year, from large buildings and vehicles to simple minifigs with accessories. The summer sets are mostly coast guard-themed.

Helicopter and Raft Coast Guard Kayak Off-Road Vehicle

Patrol Boat and Tower Quad Bike (...huh?) Truck and Boat

    Street Cleaner

One of Lego's new themes this summer is "Agents," which looks to be similar to the Alpha Team sets or the early 2000s. The press guide describes the story as "Hero vs. villain spy action" and notes that each set will have a small on-box comic."

Gold Hunt Ice Chase Mobile Command Center

Speedboat Race Swamp Bike Hunt Turbo Car Chase

Mars Mission continues with four new sets this summer. The design aesthetic of some of these seems to be a combination of classic space and the previous Life on Mars line.

    Crystal Hawk ETX Alien Infiltrator

MT-61 Crystal Reaper MX-81 Hypersonic Spacecraft

I am going to momentarily stop being an unbiased journalist to admit that the new Castle line is my favorite System line this year, and my favorite castle-themed line to date--possibly because it's so Tolkien-esque. It will have six new sets this summer, ranging from a huge mine to a "troll warrior" that looks more like an orc to me.

Dwarve's Mine Dwarve's Mine Defender Tower Raid

Troll Assault Wagon Troll Warrior Troll Warship

Despite the acquisition of the Speed Racer license, Lego's normal Racers line is still strongly represented. New sets range from groups of ready-to-race vehicles to a new 1:9 scale Ferrari.

    Brickstreet Customs Crosstown Craze

    Desert Hammer Ferrari F1 1:9

Lego even has some new sets for the younger builders. Duplo has a sub-group inspired by Thomas the Tank Engine, and two of these sets are new for this summer.

Percy at the Sheds Thomas Starter Set

Lego's final treat this summer is a Fiftieth Anniversary Building Set. The description reads "Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original LEGO brick with this classic building set with a village theme. Complete with 700 bricks, including a limited edition gold brick, children of all ages will be inspired to build anything they can imagine. Box features nostalgic images of LEGO sets throughout the last five decades, plus building instructions for 3 models and photo inspiration for 15 more. A perfect piece of nostalgia for connection generations of LEGO lovers through building!"

That covers the rest of the to-be-released Lego sets of 2008! You can share your thoughts in the talkback thread.
