Toy Fair 2017: Star Wars Constraction
Hot Bionicle NewsSaturday, February 18th, 2017 at 11:20pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager

As I'm sure everyone is painfully aware, 2016 was the last year of Bionicle's second run. Unfortunately there was not a new constraction series announced at Toy Fair today so all we've got to keep the spirit alive are the Star Wars Buildable Figures. There were only two sets on display that we haven't seen yet, but the press material promises that more will be coming later this year for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. To see what CCBS fun LEGO shared today, read on!

    Star Wars Buildable Figures

Toy Fair 2017 Star Wars Constraction 01

    75531 Stormtrooper Commander

Toy Fair 2017 Star Wars Constraction 05 Toy Fair 2017 Star Wars Constraction 06 Toy Fair 2017 Star Wars Constraction 07 Toy Fair 2017 Star Wars Constraction 08

    100 pieces. Age 7+
    $24.99 (USD) $29.99 (CAD)
    Available in June

The Stormtrooper Commander does a great job capturing the look of the Empire's elite foot-soldiers. And by that I mean his build is nearly identical to the First Order Stormtrooper's except for the blaster rifle. The set uses a plastic part of the same shape as the Rogue One Deathtrooper, but with the orange color that's iconic of the Sandtroopers in A New Hope. What's nice is that if you remove the pauldron, you get a regular Stormtrooper to build your army with. The helmet mold is spot on, but unfortunately it's the only new part I could find. It's an accurate set, but nothing super exciting.

75532 Scout Trooper & Speeder Bike

In a first for the Star Wars buildable figures we get a vehicle! The speeder bike is a solid build and will stand up to a lot of swooshing around the house. It looks great too and has a lot of nice details like moving flaps on the rear and a blaster underneath. The Scout Trooper breaks from the standard trooper build a little bit, but doesn't offer any new parts except for the helmet, which is again great. I do like how they added the pouches and backpack to the trooper, helping to make him more screen accurate. All-in-all this is going to be quite a nice set with a lot of play value that's just begging for an Endor Leia and a Wicket CCBS set.

    75523 Scarif Shoretrooper

I have to admit that overall I was disappointed with the light turnout for the buildable figures. I wasn't expecting to see the Last Jedi ones, but it would be nice to at least know how many we're getting. We'll have to wait until later this year to find out though. In the meantime, we have an average set in the Stormtrooper and an awesome set in the Speeder Bike to look forward to, and I can't wait to get my hands on them. Let us know what you think about them in the Talkback! Also, don't forget to check out the rest of our Toy Fair 2017 coverage right here and to vote for what theme you'd like to see next right here. We'll be back tomorrow with more coverage!
