Toy Fair 2017: Pirates of the Caribbean
Hot Bionicle NewsMonday, February 20th, 2017 at 4:52pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager

For the past few years, LEGO has timed the announcement of one of their Direct To Consumer (D2C) sets with Toy Fair. This year was no different, and a few minutes into our time at the LEGO booth the newest Pirates of the Caribbean set was announced. 71042 Silent Mary will be joined by two BrickHeadz to tie into the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales, which premiers on May 26th. Oddly enough, we haven't been sent any hi-res images as LEGO often does, but you can read on to see the pictures we took at the event and head over to Yahoo! for their article with even more info.

The Silent Mary is an impressive vessel, which looks like it will be a super-fun build considering it doesn't use any hull pieces (which makes sense since it's a ghost ship). The level of detail is on par with what we've come to expect from D2C sets, with very little appearing to be overlooked. The minifigs are also great, with the main characters appearing as well as several ghost pirates.

We've known about the BrickHeadz for a little bit, at the very least since the Beauty and the Beast packaging started appearing online. Jack and Salazar each look like cute versions of their characters, with a good selection of printed parts to make them instantly recognizable.

I'm certainly not a huge Pirates of the Caribbean fan, but the Silent Mary looks like a fantastic set, and the BrickHeadz are trying to get me to collect them all. Some may be disappointed that there aren't more Pirates sets coming out this year, but LEGO has been known to hold things back from Toy Fair. What are your thoughts on the sets? We'd love to hear about them in the Talkback! When you're done, don't forget to vote for what you'd like to see next and go check out the rest of our Toy Fair 2017 coverage!
