  1. *comes out of hibernation/lurk mode*

Almost exactly five years ago, I started watching Episode 1 of MLP:FiM. It's been a long time since then and lots of things have changed, but I'm glad to still be a fan.

In the past five years, I've put together numerous song covers, was a part of multiple voice-acted projects (which were unfortunately scrapped D:), made a lot of friends in the fandom (and still regularly do so), and even attended two conventions (and after this weekend, three!). It's not the biggest part of my life, but it's a lot of positivity and friendship that I'm thankful to have.

I was going to try to do something special for my annual song cover this year, but unfortunately the flu kind of wiped me out all month, so I haven't had enough time to record anything. I know only a handful of you ever hear my

, but I still plan to hopefully maybe possibly put something new together within the next month or two. Nothing concrete's been decided, so if you have a song you'd like me to do, I welcome ideas!

For now though, I'm especially looking forward to Whinny City Ponycon this weekend, the first brony convention in the Chicago area since (the extremely fantastic and memorable) Midwestria in 2012! You can expect an entry on that soon.

  2. That's me now!

Time to play some video games.

  3. Over a year since my last entry and I still have no answer as to why I can't stop coming back. Oh well. It seems like every time I return fewer people are logged in. Huh. Place hasn't died yet, so that's good I suppose. Also still see activity among a handful of my old acquaintances. There is no real purpose to this entry. It almost feels obligatory, to be honest.

Well, I've been rather spotty on this website for a while. Probably will continue to be for forseeable future. Apologies for the delay it lead to with the blog contest; that is all sorted out, and the winner is Hordaki. Really, with only two entries, it was pretty much a coin toss.

Haven't been up to much lately; mostly just been playing Final Fantasy XIV, which has been fun. Never been a serious MMO player, and here I am learning how to be a tank, and actually somehow succeeding. It's nice to have something to do.

Somewhere in here I gotta build something, send it off to the convention circuit. Probably gonna build a new crab.

The goal here was to update the Zyglak, while retaining some of the aesthetics from the original combiner.

You know how I said I wanted to go to Finland to study abroad?

    Well, I've finally done it.

After two years of planning, I got onto a plane back in August (I am really terrible at keeping up with my blog). And since being here, I have made many Swedish-speaking Finnish friends, explored the towns, took a cruise on over to Stockholm, and so much more.

I have been to sitz parties (so much better than the parties back home: there's food!), I have a pair of overalls with over a dozen patches either on it or ready to be sewn onto it.

I'll try to remember some BZP appropriate stories. Maybe they'll be funny, maybe you'll hate me for wasting your time.

But the Best way I can summarize Finland: I was born in the US, but I found my heart in Finland.

  9. It's 6AM in my corner of the world, and by all accounts I should be asleep because it's a Saturday morning and I have no reason to be awake right now. It's really nice to have some downtime to be nostalgic, though, and to take a short trip down memory lane. The weird part is that "memory lane" was literally only a few years ago.

I'm not sure what prompted it, but around this time in 2013 I thought it would be a great idea to start up a comic series - something I hadn't done in years - and it prompted a return to BZPower in a way that I wasn't expecting. I was involved again, and it was a lot of fun.

And then in 2014 I just got busier and busier, and never really slowed down. My last status on here was in September 2014, and I haven't posted anything since. Part of it was that feeling you get after being away for such a long time and you're not sure if you're even welcome back, while the other part of it was just being so busy doing other things that you don't have time for your old hobbies.

The hardest thing about time moving the way it does is that you are never the same person a year later. So many things have the potential to change. The biggest thing for me is that in March of this year, in order to make some bill payments and at the insistence of my then-girlfriend, I sold my entire Bionicle/Lego collection, save for two McToran.

It was really the end of an era, for me. From that point onward, things were never the same between me and the toys that really changed my life. I don't want this post to end on a down note, though, so here are some happy thoughts.

The beautiful thing about memories is that nothing but freak circumstances can take them from you. Your old toys may get sold, or you may move to another city, or you might just grow up and graduate from college in a few months, but through all of that, those good childhood memories will stick with you forever.

So today was my 18th birthday!

I don't feel any more responsible.

I had some nice cake, lots of pizza, and I got a $25 Xbox gift card plus a controller charging station!

I bought Halo 3: ODST for The Master chief collection, and funnily enough just in time to get a date-specific achievement.

I'm very happy with My Xbox One a month on. I've finished Tomb Raider and Valiant hearts (I had played them both on PC before, but it was a good excuse to replay them) , all the campaigns in the MCC (sans ODST) , and am almost done with Episode 2 of The Walking dead Season 1 (I watched a let's play of it when it was coming out, to my everlasting shame. I'm happily rectifying that mistake now though) .

I haven't played The Deer God or GOW much so far, but I'll probably get around to them eventually.

No idea what I'll do with the remaining $20 from the gift card, I'll probably wait to see if any of the deals with gold catch my eye. I'm excited to see what the GWG for next month will be, since it'll be the first month with Backwards compatibility.

  11. First and foremost, I'm beginning to post an epic I've been working on sporadically for the last few years. The prologue isn't that exciting, but I promise that it gets better! Reading Fighting to Survive here.

Secondly, I just learned that Brickfair will be in NJ, while I'm here in Philadelphia, so I'm hoping to be able to make it on Saturday.

  12. I finally decided to sit down and make a list of my favorite 10 bionicle sets pre-2015. This got a little weird for me. While I was compiling this, I realized I wasn't being completely objective, as far as how the sets stands alone as a set. I decided, however, to keep going like this. Take this list as not a strictly objective view of the sets. This is just a list of my favorite sets/characters. Also I should say that this list will probably change as I continue to fill in my collection. I don't own any of the 08/09 vehicle sets, and I know those are highly regarded sets and for good reason. Okay. Here we gooooo.....

    1. Brutaka

I think this is a pretty obvious and fair choice. This is definitely one of the most well built sets we ever got. Brutaka should be at the top of everyone's list. Everything from his custom feet, up to his olmak, is perfect. We even got extra articulation from his hidden daggers. His streamlined shape and figure is definitely a masterpiece of a Lego set.

    2. Sidorak

This is definitely a very subjective opinion. Sidorak is more or less my favorite character from the entire generation. His set has always been one of my favorites as well. Even though he has some weird articulation and posing restrictions, I have still always loved him. His shape and flow always worked really well for me, especially because I myself have always been a very tall and slender person. He is also one of the only 05 sets with the ability to hold his rhotuka in place. Considering the fact that every single figure from 05 had a rhotuka spinner, it was definitely a big deal to me that he could effectively hold his in place. His custom

Built head was always one of my favorites as well. I'll stop talking about sidorak now. I love him.

    3. Karzahni

This is a set that I only very recently came into possession of. I spent a lot of time, before I owned him, looking over pictures of him and speculating as to how much I would actually like it once it was in my hands. He's also one of my favorite characters from the entire generation. After finally getting this set and building it, I instantly fell in love with it. There are some obvious flaws with it, mainly the various lose spikes that decorate him, but I still very much love this set. The extra matoran and trap are also pretty great. You get 4 sets in 1! That's amazing! If there was a pre-mutation karzahni set, that would probably have been my number 1 pick. But alas, we got weird mutant karzahni instead, and he's still pretty freakin sick.

    4. Tarakava

The Tarakava was the first bionicle set I ever got. I was 9 years old, and they were the greatest things ever. This is what started it all for me. Nostalgia aside, they're still two of the coolest things we ever got. Two giant treaded lizard things that box? Oh yeahhhh. They still are some of the most fascinating looking things we ever got, and I still love playing with them some 14 years later.

    5. Makuta

This was the first time we got the big bad, and this is definitely my favorite incarnation of him. Everything about this set just screams HEY IM A BAD DUDE WHO DOES BAD STUFF. I was so bummed when his mask in MOL was changed. The set form kraahkan is one of the coolest masks ever. I always loved this set, even though his legs are basically immobile. I still love it for what it is and visually, it's one of the coolest looking sets.

    6. Maxilos

This is another obvious pick, and the only reason he isn't higher, is because of the nostalgia I have attached to the previous sets on the list. Maxilos rules and if you don't agree, I feel sorry for you.

    7. Toa Lhikan & Kikanalo

I wanted to include the toa metru on this list somehow, and I felt choosing Lhikan was the best way to do this. The metru were my favorite toa we got in G1. Lhikan was probably the best metru build toa. His hau is awesome, and his twin swords are even more awesome. Kikanalo is also a really impressive piece. His build is sturdy and strong, and his custom built head is another one of the best ones we ever got. The two of the them together make for a quite memorable and awesome set.

    8. Lesovikk

This is one of the few vehicle sets I currently own. I always really liked Lesovikk as a character, and I definitely always loved the set. Lesovikk himself is just a regular inika/piraka build, but I always liked him more than most other sets built in this style. His sea sled thing is awesome too. Mounted cordak blasters are always a plus.

    9. Krekka

Most people seem to not like Krekka. I've always loved this set a lot. Despite the obvious lack of elbows, everything about his build and functions are just awesome. He looks super complex and robotic. This has always greatly appealed to me. I proudly have him on display and I always will. He's definitely one of the most fun builds I've ever put together.

    10. Takanuva

For similar reasons as Lhikan, I chose Takanuva as a representative for the mata/nuva sets. It's where this all began, and I had to include that era of toa somewhere on this list. Takanuva is a fine choice, I think, with both his role as the coveted 7th toa and the inclusion of the ussanui in the set. The ussanui is pretty sick and was always one of my favorite looking vehicles. Takanuva himself just rules. It's hard to beat that gold avohkii. Nostalgia rush. MOL. Good memories. Happy times. Yay!

Okay so that about does it. I purposely did not include anything from G2. The new generation of sets are honestly some of the best sets we ever got, but we still have several years to see where this will go. I am super hyped bionicle is back and I can't get over how great it's honestly been so far. All the issues aside, G2 bionicle rules and I can't wait for 2016!!

  13. Hello again, everyone. I thought I'd share the covers for some of the books I've published this year. These aren't the covers of all of my books; just the ones I like best. You can also click on each cover to check out each book's page on my website, where you can learn more about whichever book captures your interest.

Let's start with the cover for my fantasy novel, The Mage's Grave, first book in my Mages of Martir fantasy series, available in ebook and trade paperback wherever books are sold:

    TheMagesGrave-200x300.jpg

Next is the sequel, The Mage's Limits, which is also available in ebook and trade paperback wherever books are sold:

Then we move on to the third book, The Mage's Sea, which is also available wherever books are sold:

And to finish off the Mages of Martir series, here is the cover for the fourth and final book, The Mage's Ghost, which is ... well, you know the drill:

    TheMagesGhost-200x300.jpg

Next we move onto the covers for my newest (and still ongoing as of this writing) science-fantasy series, Two Worlds. Here's the cover for the first book, Reunification:

    Reunification-200x300.jpg

And last, but certainly not least, the cover for my newest novel and the second book in the Two Worlds series, Alliance:

    Alliance-200x300.jpg

All of the above covers are by the brilliant and talented Elaina Lee of For the Muse Designs.

I'd also like to note that the free ebook raffle I mentioned in the last post is still going until Tuesday, September 8th. So if you'd like to enter for a chance to win a free ebook copy of Reunification in the ebook format of your choice, just comment on this post or the last one saying so and I will add your name to the drawing, which will be done completely at random.

  14. Recently, while going through my browser bookmarks, trying to organize my life, I stumbled across a folder of "BZP Work", which includes mainly set reviews I did back in the day, in case I ever wanted to show them off (hint: I don't; it turns out my writing has evolved in the last 5 years).

What discovering the bookmark folder did, however, was launch one of those infrequent reminiscing sessions where I log onto BZP (often invisibly, though not this time) and see what's happening. I was shocked to find very many things had changed since the last time I visited.

    • Bionicle is re-booting. Whaaat.
    • Almost every single forum has moved, and COT has a friend forum
    • The home page had links to web sites that would have been considered "advertising" in the now distant past.
    • My profile now says I'm nine. That was a lot more comical when it said 2. Now it's just weird.

In a community where even people's names can change, making it difficult to determine who you know and who you don't, change is to be expected. But in the middle of this, I've found so many things that surprised me more that they hadn't changed.

    • There were no new posts in BlogAlert since I was last here.
    • Black Six's blog still has the same name.
    • I still remember all kinds of BZP-related things, like the acronyms we use to refer to the forums or the hex code of the color I post in. But this isn't exactly it, because the rich text editor confused me.

blog-0603637001439697958.pngSo yeah. This a blog. Pretty cool I guess.

And this is a typical first entry by me. Pretty darn random.

I suppose I should introduce myself, since I'm not particularly well known on this forum, and usually just lurk. However, now that I am a premiere member, I have this idea that I should do something with my life.

Bionicle has been a big part of my life since the first McDonalds Matoran I got (I think it was Onepu). Man, those disks were the coolest thing ever. After that, I got a Bohrok, and, having no idea that Bionicle had a story since I was five at the time, I suitably thought that it was a spaceship. That krana looked just like a little mini escape pod for perfect crash landings. When I played MNOG for the first time with my Mom at age 6, I was captivated. From MNOG onward, I followed the Bionicle website almost religiously and collected as many sets as I could.

Probably one of the best moments in my Bionicle fanhood was when I got my best friend hooked on it (Kopekemaster). Somehow, he now has more Bionicle stuff than I. Irony much.

Besides Bionicle, I love music. I would give a list of favorite bands, but I think there's already one on my profile. I am so much into music, that I am taking the (incredibly unlikely) path to becoming a film composer. This has been a big dream for me for years, and I am about to begin my freshman year at a school of music majoring in Music Composition.

I am officially too lazy to write any more than that.

Anyway, those two things are very big in my life, but if you want to know more about me, read my profile. Or, if you're feeling especially inspired, send me a PM I'd love to talk (if you use correct grammar).

    Bye for now.
