Why Unchecked Rage Is A Bad Thing.

:wakeup2: This was in the paper today: Bear with me, here. Emotion is a good thing. It makes the colors of one's life much more vivid than without. Anger does have its place in life. There are times and situations that warrant, nay call for righteous indignation. But please, temper that anger; don't let it temper you.   A lot of things happen during the teenage years. Physical, emotional, interpersonal, spiritual...the body is in a unique brand of chaos.   The young Mr. Anderson has now ef

200½ lb., 25.0% body fat     Is this what it's like? Every time I turn around, there's something to remind me of Amanda, and every time Amanda comes to mind, I start with the stupid smile again.   Not that I'm not enjoying it or anything.   Finally, a new recipe. This would have already been posted, except that I was acquainting myself with the epicenter map in Team Fortress Classic. I'll have to run it on a private server to get a feel for it, but in the interim, never underestimate the v

Cheeseburger Doritos

Got something new to work with in the kitchen: speckled trout filets. Kurt & Frank (two of my bosses) went fishing over the weekend, and caught several (40, give or take). Kurt fileted them and more or less donated them to whoever wanted them. I picked up a bag of 3 filets.   For the record, it's a lot easier to take the fish out of the salt water than it is to take the salt water out of the fish. Too bad I don't have a fryer like everyone else. (Small gulf fish filets like those are usual

Encore

The "E" word no part-time brass player wants to hear when he's just busted his chops by playing for the first time in 12 months. Also the title of an article in yesterday's paper I thought was very interesting:     Just some food for thought, and the ears...   -KIE

The Symbolism Of Reality

Gosh, I just love borrowing images from Wikipedia Nah, this entry's got nothing to do with Super Bowl XLI. Last year, Super Bowl XL coincided with the 25 year anniversary of the US Embassy storming in Tehran: I half-expected some terror news to come in the same day. I'm just going to hang out with my brother, his wife, her friend and someone else, really. Now, what's the question you see above? Anyone that noticed an entry in December might've seen where I talked about Paranoia Agent. We

A Case Study In Over-diversification

Nah, nothing to do with my 401(k), despite the hit it took with the Chinese stock exchange falling back.     The saying goes "Do one thing, and do it well." Thus, I rue today, as today was the day I went into the International House of Pancakes, and found spinach on the menu, yet failed to find boysenberry, butter pecan, or warm maple syrups on the table.   I died a little inside, let me tell you.     That is all.   -KIE EDIT for clarification: Spinach is now an omelette topping. Truth be

I Gotta Get Outta Here

Song of the day: "Be My Escape", Relient K Y'all may have heard that one before, eh? Every word.   IT IS OVER. ALL OVER.   Everything made in one trip today. The deed is done. I'm busy putting together a desk (once I go back to the apartment: I'm posting this at my office because Cox won't turn on my internet until Tuesday afternoon.), and after that, laundering my towels and bed clothes, shower, passing out on the bed, showering in the morning, and actually making it to Sunday School for t

Are You Ready For Some Football....part The Fifth

200½ lb., 25.0% body fat ()   So. Much. Football.   I know you guys are getting tired of it, I can just tell.   In the fantasy realm, the Moss Bluff Cruisers are 8 point favorites, visiting the Cookie Crunchers, a fellow rookie team. This game will be over by 7 PM tonight, so go ahead and follow the details here. Or at least in about 4 hours, when the games start.   Me, I will actually be in attendance of one of the real games: Tampa Bay at New Orleans.   Will be the first time since th

Nap Day

That's what Burg called today: a day to stay home and take naps. No housework.   What? It's been raining since 7 AM!       No hijinks about it: this was the press release emailed to me....   Yes, that's $50,000,000.00   Maybe I'll get assigned to some of it...maybe I'll end up on just SCIP duty at the parish. :/     -KIE

Forever Chocolate City

I do have thoughts on Deepwater Horizon, but that will have to wait for later this week. Today is a day of celebration.   It may be disputed as to whether 69th mayor was the worst mayor in the history of New Orleans, but it will hardly be disputed that he was not the right man for the job immediately after Katrina. To have seen one whose platform be based on "business" and "clean up corruption" turn around to hire a tech chief who allegedly pocketed hundreds of thousands on non-working technolo

A Sense Of Powerlessness

Don't mind me, just taking a cue from Turakii. *drumroll for the huge weekend recap*     Philosophical question: What would you do if you had more money than you, your brothers & sisters, parents, aunts & uncles, your kids (regardless of whether you have any now) and your grandkids could ever hope to spend, combined?   One answer: build a ridiculously tall skyscraper.   The lunchtime speaker at the Tulane Engineering Forum on Friday was the lead designer of the Burj Dubai (برج دبي ,

A Winner Is Me

It came in today's mail.   Also included were two copies of WoW 2008 and a LifeSongs sticker.  Why am I burning this great title on something so petty? Simple: as often as I win stuff, it'll be a long time before it's needed once more. Now if you'd excuse me, I must bask for a bit.     -KIE, who found a way to get himself killed by the first enemy in the Easy mode of Ghost Recon last night.

Christmas In September

I get to play Santa Claus tomorrow.   The company I work for has decided to give $30,000 to its employees this autumn, specifically, $1,000 to each full-time employee. There's a catch, however: the money is not for us. We've been tasked to give this money away to a person, organization, or cause we deem worthy of it.   When I first got this memo back in mid-July, the first opportunity that came to mind is Marcie, my girlfriend's sister: she was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and that's

The Maroon Mug

Taking a litte time out to post about the neat stuff being passed out at the office. First, there was an ink pen on Monday, and then yesterday [while I was at the parish office], a coffee mug with the company logo.   I'll probably get to display it prominently at the Yenni building, every morning when I no longer have internet access during the day.   I'm not looking forward to that. Then again, it'll be good for a change in scenery, and who knows: I may get stuff done at that point.     Too

The Keystone

Craig Biggio saved the Houston Astros.   Yes, folks, there is a Major League Baseball team in Houston. And yes, there is a member of the 3,000 hit club that didn't play (except wearing road greys/reds) in New York or Boston or Atlanta. Or even Los Angeles, for that matter.   Bidge's career accomplishment last night legitimized the Astros franchise: there will be an Astro in Cooperstown by 2015 (two, if you count Bags [Jeff Bagwell]). And if he's not first-ballot, well, that's East Coast Bias f

The End Of The Fantasy

Baseball Season is upon us.   Amanda & I went to watch the New Orleans Zephyrs, AAA affiliate of the New York Metropolitans, play in their season opener tonight against the Nashville Sound, AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. It was the first minor league baseball game for either of us: I'm an Astros fan, and I might have gone back when they were the AAA of the Astros franchise, but now they're not. (That's the Round Rock Express, also in the Pacific Coast League.) We went because ther

Cavity

Cavities hurt.   Not just the ones in one's teeth, mind you. Nature abhors a vacuum, and I'm no exception.   Right now, there's this cavity between my arms and chest, that only Amanda can fill. She won't be here until Friday, so it'll have to hurt until then.     But oh, it hurts. :\ (no, this has nothing to do with the ab strain at the gym Monday night)         -KIE

Minority Report

As I left the apartment to come to work this morning, I was approached by the husband of the elderly couple that lives in A303, two doors down from my apartment. We both have our differences with the tenant between us, namely the late night entertaining she does, and the chihuahua-esque dog(s?) she's keeping there. However, he's more upset, as his front room is the only room between his bedroom and her apartment, whereas my bed is tucked further away.   Over the course of conversation (admitte

Off The Hook

Nifty, Swert. Okay, an itinerary of sorts for the weekend. This is as much for my reference benefit as it is sheer gloating: I'm going to an NFL playoff game in the Superdome and the rest of you aren't. Friday 6 PM: Amanda gets off work Saturday 12 AM: Amanda, her sister and niece's estimated arrival at hotel, not my apartment (This is why I'm "off the hook.") 9 AM: Breakfast somewhere, probably IHOP 11 AM: final shopping at Black & Gold 1:30 PM:Parking at St. Joseph's cathedral in the

The Antithursday

Don't ask about the title: none of you would get it.   Although favored by 5, the Cruisers trail the visiting Gators by 18 points after Reggie Wayne's two TD performance last night. The fantasy blow made the real loss all the more bitter: next week, I play Marvin Harrison's team, and you know Peyton Manning alternates between the two as TD targets. And then there's the fact that the Saints lost.   7-7, that's my goal this season. 7-7.     In other news, the model doesn't like me anymore. Som

Charlie Brown Redux

The Cruisers lost to the Titans, but every other game the Titans needed went the other way, so the playoff field has been pared down anyway. Wrapping up in Kenner next week against the playoff-bound Kastrators. My bench outscored both our starters, so apparently I don't know what I'm doing.   Yesterday (Saturday) was supposed to be a day that Stuff Got Done. I drove up to Baton Rouge to visit for a little bit with Michael & Brandy, wrap my gift for my mom, discuss the gift for my dad, and p

Legendary

Amanda & I went on a vain attempt to pass the night together earlier tonight. It was an epic series of failure, à la a previous mall encounter. (That watch now says 2 AM, by the way.)   I was reminded of another favorite anime of my college days, and set out, with Amanda, to go find it so that I could introduce her to another storyline. We went to fye at the Esplanade Mall, and they didn't have it (Which one? You'll find out at a later date.), but, amazingly, they could order it. Order pla
