First And Eigth

Saw two cool trailers when I saw DTESS:   May 8th, 2009: Star Trek. Yes, I had already seen the trailer online, but seeing it on the big screen with great detail made it look even cooler. I still only think I'll see if if my parents are paying for the ticket. (They were once big Trekkies and still like it.)   Better yet, though: May 1st, 2009: X-Men Origins: Wolverine: I saw the trailer that was released at Comic Con or wherever, but this was entirely different. More in-depth as to what th

Takanuva Review

If you look at it one way, I bought the set. If you look at it another way, it was a Christmas gift bought with Christmas money. Nonetheless, I got Takanuva for $20 at my local Lego Store yesterday and built him promptly upon arriving home. I also bought three Slave I keychains for $2.50 each. All with my 10% discount of course. Sadly I did not feel it would be appropriate to squander more money on the $20 Droid Gunship. (I would have had the return of my Uncle's horrid gift to me resulte

Speaking Of Flying

Built this Vic Viper a few weeks ago. Maybe a little late on this "bandwagon" thing, but I build when I have time and take inspiration from where I can. (This, and Flickr, is the only discussion. I'm not making a topic, anywhere. CC as usual. kthxbai.)   Also, current wallpaper: (Three cheers for Bill Waterson!)   -CF   Quote of the Day: For centuries, people thought the moon was made of green cheese. Then the astronauts found that the moon is really a big hard rock. That's what ha

Firefly Pick Up Lines

Quick*, what are some good Firefly pick-up lines? Something that uses a quote, of course--something recognizable.   Or I could just start with a question. Sit down next to her and ask if she knows what the Chain of Command is.   -CF *Quick meaning in a day.

Almost let this slip by... but my BZPower anniversary is here! I've been on BZPower for more than half my life. Wow!   So, ask me anything.   -CF

Assembling the Heroes

When it's time to call in the heroes, you assemble a few extras from your collection to amass a grand team.   What does that include? Cyborg, Supergirl, Aquaman, the Superior Spider-Man*, Agent Venom, Namor, Maria Hill, Wasp, Ant-Man, and Rogue!           And a little revisioning to War Machine?     Finally, a WIP of Hawkman:     The mace is from Brick Forge. They're awesome.   Coming soon: Green Arrow, Iceman (actually just Electro. Maybe I'll find some white hair.), and some new Doctor W

Micro Neo 90s Space Fleet

I'm a "90's Kid," so various LEGO themes from that decade are close to my heart. This most definitely includes the space themes, especially Exploriens. So without further ado, I give you my Exploriens Orion Class SHIP: The Exuberant.   (Microspace. Minifigs would be so cramped in something like this.)   You'll notice it looks different on the other side:   This Neo Exploriens ship was inspired by the Orion of Stargate Atlantis, and boasts a length of 103-studs and about $140 in BrickLink order

$25 For 1000 Pieces

Update. I bought it. Soooo many good pieces.   Oops, not just two entries in a day but more like in a ten minute period. So, if you want to see some funny pictures, go here and you won't miss out on my blogging spree. Now, onward...   This is just one of the many troubles with being a Lego Hobbyist in college. Twenty dollars for the Space Skulls! (Plus $5 shipping, totally worth it.) Now, being the college kid, I shouldn't be spending too much money. Especially after an anime convent

Rancor pit!

Finally, after 14 years, we finally get a Rancor pit LSW set! It's just a little... small. The rancor, the set, but certainly not the price ($60, 380 pieces).   I've been in favor of something made from constraction pieces, and then of course something larger. This guy is Hulk/Troll sized, nowhere near the size of the Rancor.   At least we finally have one.   -CF

Meeting the CEO of LEGO

BrickFair New England (AKA Massachusetts) happened a few weeks ago, and hoo boy was there much going on! I easily doubled the amount of sets in my "to be built" pile--and didn't pay for any of them! That's the power of playing games and volunteering. I also met a few new people that will be good to see again at BFVA. Plenty of inspiring MOCs and fun ideas.   But what really stood out was meeting all the LEGO Group folks that came to visit from Enfield, CT, which is pretty close by. I met a few p

Filler Words

Working retail, I interact with a lot of people. More than I'd care to on a daily basis. And people, as a whole, seem to like to talk a lot. Again, more than I'd care to let my ears hear. So, the less words said the better, right?   One thing that I really can not stand is the phrase "you know" when describing something. It's as bad as "like," "um," and "uh," when it comes to filler. Something involuntary to cause a pause when your brain can't quite put the right words in order in conversation.

Doctor Who-- Lego!

Everything. I can't remember the last time I invested so much into LEGO. 10th's and 11th's hairs were $4 each (after shipping), as was the Ood head.   Some quick links: TARDIS Latest three Doctors Master and Toclofane An Ood Sonic Screwdriver (9th, 10th) (11th will be hard.)   I'm pretty much done with a complete Girl in the Fireplace clockwork droid. Just need photos. And when I get the Harry Potter Quidditch set, one of the figs has perfect hair for Captain Jack. And if I can find s

Doctor Who Cosplay

I had an amazing opportunity this past weekend to costume play as The 10th Doctor at Katsucon 16. I am sooooo glad I accepted! (My hair should have been parted the other way, oh well. (I blame the mirror.) We did poof it up though--so we tried. Looked good.)   I'm The Doctor! "Allons-y!" Brilliant! (I mean this from the heart- and by the way, count those.) "I'm good." "Um..."

Funny how many customers who I've never met assume I'm asking about their well-being and reply, "I'm good," when I'm merely saying "good morning" to them as they come into the bookstore.   And by golly the amount of snark I repress could fill a swimming pool. (Or a book...hehe.)   And no, we're not going out of business. (And even if we were, what are you going to do about it?)   -CF

How Could I Forget This?

Wow, I was on last night too, after I got it nonetheless.   Anyway, last night was my Eagle Scout Board of Review. *drumroll please* And I am now an Eagle Scout!   That means, in the Boy Scouts of America, that I have served as a leader in my troop, have camping experience, and overall am a great scout. In short it's really important, special, and a high honor.   (Um, xccj, did I miss anything?)   So now I have to send papers to the Council, and once those are approved I can plan a Court

Stargate Patches

No, not like the SG-1 patch I have taped to my laptop, but Boy Scout Jamboree patches of Stargate ships!   These were apparently a pretty hot item at the Jamboree this year, and my family was lucky enough to trade one of our popular NCAC sets for the rightmost full set when we visited my brother, who is currently attending. Then I traded for Atlantis and bought Destiny, a patch only available to Eagle scouts and thus making only about 100 floating around the entire Jamboree of 45,000 scouts

In His Element

I was inspired to go out into the snow today and take a picture of an Ice Toa in his natural environment:     I built this guy about six years ago (as well as the rest of his team) and even wrote a short story around him (I was originally going to write an epic, and I built the Toa team central to it). Short story shorter: During an epic battle to save his land, after his other five Toa teammates have fallen, he releases a nova blast of ice, stopping the threat but being encased in a cocoon of

Half my Life is on BZPower

I've heard a few other members talk about this important milestone, and at BrickFair VA this year I realized I had accomplished the same thing: Over half of my life has been on BZPower.   How ridiculous is that?!?! For the amount of time I've been alive, more than half of that time has been deeply invested in the discussion of a particular LEGO theme, connecting with others who share that passion, meeting them, keeping in touch, and caring for everyone that has made an impression. Half. Of. My.

Dust Free

Displaying LEGO is always tricky, because dust is very annoying. It's something I constantly worry about with my displays on my shelf, because it is so very annoying to remove. It just looks ugly on display. While my plan is to use model car cases for things like the DeLorean and Curiosity Rover, and some big clear cases for minifigs to grandstand on, I would rather have a few figs stand out. I have some cases, but that's still not good enough. Things can be touched easily, and I am always rotat

mailed out 9 mocs

I mailed out 9 MOCs today. I remember mailing Arpy's, Bunda's, and one to Sweden. But I don't remember the rest and don't have my list on me right now.   So until I get that list, and also mail out the other 9, let's assume it's yours that was shipped out.   -CF

SP3 Rainbow Helmets

I've made it a point to get 2 of every helmet seen in the second wave of Space Police III (grey), the white and pink spacemen, the black cyborg, and Alien Conquest (weird light blue) (is that all?) in recent minifig history. So if i want even just one of all the pretty Galaxy Squad helmets, looks like I'll have to get each set. Which sounds like an awesome idea!   -CF

Big Fig Invasion

I seem to have accidentally amassed a small collection of LEGO big figs:     It's an odd bunch, towering over minifigs. But man, they look so cool! It's almost enough to make me want Mungus, Dogshank, and a Wampa, though not enough to make me shell out the cash. But it might be a new addiction.   -CF

BIONICLE "Reboot"

All this quibbling over a reboot or a continuation of the Bionicle story has been getting overdramatic, IMO. I feel I have a much more simpler take on it that doesn't negate the 10-year story we've all deeply loved:   Think of the "reboot" (as it will inevitably be) in terms of an alternate universe (despite LEGO probably not ever admitting it's like that or doing a "crossover."). Look at Marvel and DC comics. They all have a main universe for most of their stories, but then they've branched out
