ЅЅⅭ8 People's Choice Results

Insert much pumping of fists here.   Based on the voting pattern in SSC8, I was half-expecting my entry, Ignition, to fall into second place behind Grant-Sud's Divided We Fall. That was avoided, but barely. I guess I can confidently (albeit somewhat prematurely) call myself victorious.   Congratulations to all the people whose entries reached the People's Choice poll, and a slightly bigger congratulations to the Judges' Choices. Expect a more official-sounding post when the official SSC8 results

ЅЅⅭ8 People's Choice Poll Update

I've determined not to look at the polls until later tonight. I don't want to keep checking them every quarter hour to see if my entry is in the lead or not -- the last time I checked was yesterday and Ignition was leading, but only by one vote.   Wow, is this poll suspenseful. *crosses fingers*

ЅЅⅭ8 People's Choice Poll

My story, Ignition, may not have won a Judge's Choice award, but it still has a chance to win the People's Choice poll. While votes would be appreciated, be sure to read through all of the entries before deciding which one is best -- winning fair and square is better than winning because I told people to vote for me.

You're Stuck with Me for Six Months

Perchance you're wondering how I happened upon six-month Premier Membership. Allow me to satiate your curiosity.   My plan was a devious one. Upon seeing the LSO COT Comedies contest almost empty, I proceeded to enter perhaps the most drab, torturous piece of garbage BZPower has seen to this day under the guise of a comedy. The judges promptly heaved the title of first place onto my shoulders and made me say (I crossed my fingers) that I would never again blackmail them with such rubbish as my s

Writing Homework

I finally have to write a short story as homework at my American Literature co-op class. I knew it was only a matter of time I actually never saw this coming. But that doesn't dilute the sweetness.   The requirements are twofold:   1. I have to use a list of vocabulary words, twenty-eight in all, from the chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird my class has reviewed thus far. The words range from ones I already use on a regular basis (e.g. facade, prowess, obscurely) to words I know well but have nev

Write-off Stories -- Theme: Rebuilding

Since Velox and 55555 are currently absent and can't post tonight's write-off stories to the official blog, I'm posting them here for now. I can't figure out a way to prevent excessive scrolling without abusing spoiler tags, so I suppose you all will have to deal with it.

Who Remembers Lesovikk's Hiatus?

I remember when the Lesovikk's Hiatus contest was first announced. I submitted two entries, and then shortly after, KanohiJournal was disbanded, and the contest slipped through the cracks. 'Twas a pity.   Wouldn't it be cool if the contest were to return? Let's consider for the purpose of this hypothetically hypothetical example that the contest would no longer be considered canon but fanon. Would you still be interested in entering? I know I would.   But -- alas! -- the contest is definitely no

Wherein My Reading of Uncle Tom's Cabin Is Concluded

I began reading Uncle Tom's Cabin last week and finished this morning. 'Twas a brilliant read (despite its overabundance of commas), one deserving of the title "classic". Its writing style, which reminds me of other old books such as Black Beauty and The Wind in the Willows, will greatly influence my writings in the near future.

What I Got For Christmas

I'm back -- and just in time for Premier perks to end. Why don't I end this blog (for now, at least) on a happy note?   I had a fantastic Christmas, not least because my brothers and I finally have our own albums! On Christmas Eve, our uncle supplied us with one each: I got The Fray by The Fray, my younger brother got Waking Up by OneRepublic, and my youngest brother got Greatest Hits by Bon Jovi; the next day, I found in my stocking Vice Verses by Switchfoot, my younger brother found The Resist

Usefulness and Uselessness

Sometimes, when I'm idle, I get an urge to do something of great importance or usefulness; almost unfailingly, I am unable to think of something monumental to do or find the willingness to ponder further. I suppose the feeling is a side-effect of lethargy, an uneventful past month, and my continued procrastination on a novel I want to write, but vindicating its existence doesn't sweeten its taste.   Before anyone says anything to this effect, no, homework does not count as useful or important in

Unearthed, by E.S. Posthumus

'Tis a great neo-classical / new age album. I really want to buy it (and Carnavas by Silversun Pickups), but I've already bought enough new music with my birthday money to make my mom worried about my "obsession with music".

True Doomsday Prediction

Take the date December 21, 2012. Now translate it into American shorthand dating format: 12/21/12. If each number stands for a letter, 12 equals L and 21 equals U.   Thus, "12/21/12" can be translated to "LUL", which, as everyone here knows, is a purposeful misspelling of "LOL".   We're all being trolled.

Top Ten Favorite Albums of 2012

I listened to so many good albums in 2012, I couldn’t stand pruning my list to only the top ten. Thus, below are listed my top ten favorite albums of 2012 and ten honorable mentions, making the list an even twenty albums in total.   A disclaimer: I made few attempts at being objective in my rankings. I chose my favorite albums on the basis of how much I enjoy them, not how technically proficient their musicians are or how unique they sound. Feel free to leave feedback on my choices, but I won’t

The League Of Authors

Obligatory plug.   Nulie runs the League of Authors through entries on Velox's blog. The setup is very nice, the challenges are inspiring while vague enough for different people to have different interpretations -- all in all, this deserves some more attention.   If you're interested in participating in creative writing exercises, reviewing stories so others can review yours in turn, etc., definitely check out the rest of its blog entries.

The 2nd Law

This'll be a polarizing entry, but I am obligated to post it:   Of Muse's latest album, The 2nd Law, the worst parts are the album cover, the electropop "Follow Me", and the curse word in "Panic Station". Otherwise, 'tis a great album.

Tenderfoot Board Of Review

Last night I finally managed to have my Board of Review for Tenderfoot. Don't judge: I joined a year and a half ago, but lost at least half a year in missed meetings (due to issues outside Boy Scouts) and campouts I couldn't attend.   One of the questions asked to me by an adult leader of the troop during my Board of Review was, "What do you think isn't good about the troop?"   I thought for just a moment. "Well," I replied, "the meetings seem disorganized -- like, not everything scheduled to be

Techna

This is my second try at making an RPG for the BZPower TBRPG contest. In my opinion it's faaaar better than my first try, but I'd still like some feedback.

Taming RРĠ Contest 22

Yes, I just had to use the above title for this blog entry.   The RPG Contest 22 polls have been posted! Be sure to vote in both polls; my entry, Techna, can be found in Preliminary Poll Kermit. Be sure to read through all the entries in the contest -- there are a lot of good RPGs.
