Premier Membership Giveaway!

(Apologies for bumping this so many times - just wanted to be sure people on BZP at different times would get the chance to see it, especially with the blogs being the way they are at the moment.)   Hey there! Title drew you in, eh? Sounds good. Well, it's exactly as the title says: In celebration of BZP's 11th, I'm holding a Premier Membership giveaway. Why? 'Cause I'm sweet like that. And more importantly because I remember wanting a premier membership way back when and not being able to ge

Premier Membership Giveaway: 12-Year-BZPversary Edition

Another year, another new spinny! Today marks 12 years since I signed up for a little site called BZPower, and even cutting out the roughly 7-year absence, that's still a pretty good chunk of time with a pretty good community. I'd wonder what 11-year-old me would say if he saw me here now, except that typing this sentence made me realize I've been registered here for more than half my life, and now I need to go lay down.   Before that, though-   In celebration of 12 years on BZP, I'm holding a P

Premier Membership Giveaway Results!

And now the moment you've all been waiting for!   Congrats to Grochi's Bane, A_Darksteel_Myr, and Ddude the Insane! I'll be sending each of you a PM shortly with your code. I'll note this again in the PM, but please PM me back once you get the code so that if one of you disappears off the face of the earth the code won't go to waste.   For anyone else who entered: sorry you didn't win, but there's plenty of contests around BZP these days. Give 'em a shot - you never know how things'll turn out

Meanwhile, in Meiji era Los Angeles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuIdjU1I-08   Seriously though I really really hope the localization team just carries on and still pretends this is all happening in America. Yes that's right in early 1900s Los Angeles Phoenix Wright's great-grandfather became the first lawyer of the Meiji Restoration. In the great Empire of America.

A Christmas Gift for BZPers

First off: Merry Christmas, or otherwise good December 25th!   Inspired by something off-site, I am doing what is probably a bad idea given my schedule and offering to write drabbles for people! Leave a prompt in the comments (or over PM if you prefer anonymity) and at some point in the semi-near future I'll write a (probably very) short story based off it. I'll leave requests open for about 36 hours (until the end of the 26th). I haven't decided how exactly I'm going to post these yet - probabl

Hypothetical, completely unrealistic writing question

So, hypothetically, if I had a 20k word story sitting completed save revision, would it be better posted as a short epic than as a very long short story? And hypothetically if I made it an epic, would ~7k long chapters work, do you think?   Purely hypothetical question, you understand.   Also: If I hypothetically wanted someone to read over this hypothetical story to give some feedback, would anyone be interested? Alright, I've got three pairs of eyes on this from this blog entry alone, so I th

Fear And Loathing In Bzp

So there it goes, and here I am with no reporter, lurking a topic in General Discussion, nervously scrolling down the page in a topic just coming awake to an early evening rush of bronies and Homestuck trolls... With a HUGE blog post just outside the door so full of filtered websites that I'm afraid to even look at it!   But I can't abandon the thing. The only hope, is to somehow get it across three hundred miles of open road between here and Sanctuary. But sweet GregF, I am TIRED, I'm scared, I

Did Someone Say Nightmare Knight?

It's YOUR turn to take up the sword of legend, Cucumber! Get with the program!   (What do you mean, I could probably slip right through the bars? I know you can't tell, but I've gained a lot of weight in here, son.)     (^ That's a link for a reason, folks!)

Fire Emblem Fates (ask me stuff if you want)

Oh hey! Fire Emblem Fates comes out in English next week, and... I still haven't finished the Japanese version! But I know there's a good chunk of FE fans on BZP, so I thought I'd post a bit about the game and let folks ask questions.   So what happened was, after starting the game back in June, I got stuck on a certain chapter, life happened, and I put the game down until last month. Then I picked it up and started making real progress, and I'm a few chapters away from the end. So, impressions!

Through the magic of random.org: Dallior Grochi ad Infinitum Crunchyn Chro Mushy the Mushroom Congrats to the winners! I will be sending you a PM shortly to confirm you're still interested. If not, let me know, and I'll pass it on to the next person on the full list.   Thanks to everyone who entered, and I hope one way or another, you all have a good 2015 on BZP!

If this is a world where Episode VII can get made, maybe Lego really will revive Bionicle someday.

Book Badger don't care

It just reads what it wants. Oh my god, watch it write. Look at it:     What's that in its hands? Oh, it's got a novel? Oh, it reads backwards?   The book badger.   (Awesome member title by Tolkien, courtesy of Hahli Husky, and awesome art by Bri Hermanson, courtesy of Google Image Search.)

Resident Evil 6

Just announced. Go watch the trailer, I'll wait.   So.   Yeah.   The good: Leon is back! The bad: GEARS OF RESIDENT EVIL 6: BROVERLOAD   Putting this on the 'wait-and-see' list. PS: This is just me being snobbish, I enjoyed RE5 a lot even though that was way more action than horror.

RPGs and fics and plans, oh my

So now that this semester is finally drawing to a close, I'm actually starting to have free time again! It's crazy.   Anyway, in the interest of keeping this short and sweet, here's two things I plan to do with said free time: I'm finally going to be able to sit down, finish hashing out this outline for my epic (total aside, but I've always thought 'epic' was a bit flowery a term for 'multi-chapter story', but whatevs), and get down to writing it this summer. It's a follow-up to The Shadow and

13 Years

Actually missed this one by a few minutes - forgot it was, well, yesterday at this point. Time flies...!   I've been a member on BZP for thirteen years now, even if I spent a good seven of them completely absent. Even with that caveat, that puts me at near the five-year mark for being active here in recent times. And somehow I've wound up a Global Mod? Life is strange indeed.   Truth be told, this wasn't my best year BZP-wise. A lot of that just comes back to, well, real life - this past yea

Two years and 1.8 NaNoWriMos later

The joy of finishing the first draft is surpassed only by the terror of realizing I now have to edit the first draft.   (There's probably something ironic about this being the sequel to a short story that wound up being 20,000 words, but mostly my brain just keeps going back to "108,250 words to edit" and seizing up, so I'll get back to you on that later.)

Microsoft Intern Puzzle Hunt

Working at Microsoft has certain advantages.   Today that advantage was gathering with about 90 other teams (for a total of about 950 interns) to take over campus in a massive puzzle hunt.   This year's theme was video games; we gathered in one of the conference centers where we were greeted by a variety of costumed characters (including Vivi from FFIX; respect points for that, MS). After an intro video paying homage to a variety of villains old and new, we were provided with our swag (T-shirts

Super Smash Streamers for Nintendo 3DS

I'll keep this short and to the point: I have a Japanese 3DS with a capture card. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has its Japanese release in just under a week.   Friday, September 12th. 7-ish PST. Smash 3DS stream. People interested?   Bump to say: This is still happening tonight if folks are interested! Will make a new blog entry with link when things get going.

The Shadow and the Seaquel, or: I've Got Some Questions

So.   About three years ago I wrote a story called "The Shadow and the Sea". (If you haven't read it, this parenthetical is the obligatory plug - it's got Hahli and Teridax and Takanuva and quite a lot of emotional pain, which is always a good combo in my book.) I'm still not sure exactly where it came from, but somehow it wound up being long enough that I couldn't in good conscience call it a "short story." And folks seemed to like it! I did too, though of course three years on you look back an

An overdue apology

So, the big thing I want to do is apologize, I guess.   I haven't been around much these past two years. That's a function of a lot of things: life, stress, good old-fashioned shifts in interest. Maybe I could've "done better" in being more active on general, but when the fire's not there, the fire's not there.   So in some sense I owe apologies to people who relied on me for general BZP stuff, apologies to folks who I got to know years ago and then fell away from for no apparent reason, and i
