Why I'm Excited for The Lego Movie

It looks like it'll be funny, heartwarming, and spectacular looking, while paying homage to the Lego experience. The sets are fantastic and really capture the spirit of Lego creative play. It seems that it could generate more interest in Lego among the non-FOL population. My upcoming meetup will give me a chance to see some of my BZP peeps without having to wait six more months for Brickfair VA. And finally, it seems like other Lego fans will love it too. Not in the cult "there will neve

Whatever Happened to the Comedies Subforum?

I'll make a confession. I have pretty much ignored the comedies subforum for years now. Checking it regularly was one of the casualties of the Great Downtime, since so many of the great comedic minds of BZPower moved on from the site, and what was left (in my eyes) was a wasteland of long-form Bionicle parodies (which I had had my fill of, like I had with Bionicle in general) and stories about flanderized Bionicle characters in decidedly non-Bionicle situations (The Toa Try To Run an Establishme

What I Hate About The New Bzp

I don't mind the new forum layout.   I don't mind, and in fact encourage the site shifting focus.   I do mind when members make a passive-aggressive blog entry, and then lock it so that the targeted members can't even defend themselves. I mean really, who DOES that?   I mean, seriously. My brother and I loved BIONICLE, but we were okay with it ending. We do, however, take offense to people blaming LEGO for what was, in essence, a wise business decision. We don't like when people stereotype peopl

Vnolg!

THE VOYA NUI ONLINE GAME IS UP!   I started as soon as I found out. I managed to get a little bit into chapter one before I had to go help with dinner. Getting past the Guarding Lava Ape had me stumped until I realized I had to go back and talk to Garan again. Who really gets in the way in battles.   My name on VNOLG is Lyichir. A bit obvious.   EDIT: Made it to chapter two! Gosh, Reidak was easy! EDIT 2: Can't beat the swarm of Rock Ussals! Any tips?

Unikitty does whaaaaat?

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/simgad/16145316253867347519   This banner ad just showed up when I was browsing BZP. Now, anyone who knows me should know that I am a Unikitty aficionado, so as obviously I clicked the link... but it only took me to the Lego Movie home page on Lego.com. And try as I might I couldn't find any new Unikitty-related content.   I WANT TO CONTINUE THE STORY, LEGO. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT UNIKITTY DOES. DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THIS.   Anyway, while we're on the subj

Two Snippets Of Nooz

... er... I mean news.   First of all- my brother wanted me to advertise his Short Stories Contest entry on this blog. HERE it is. It's based on the song Endless Night from the play The Lion King. So... please post on it. It would make him happy.   Secondly, I'm not digging this whole blog thing. So anyone who follows this blog (as if anyone does ), let it be said that I am not going to be making any new entries for a while. I won't be gone forever, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I

The Problem with Canonization

The recent trend of fans petitioning Greg to canonize details of the story has been controversial. But I've been upset to see that devolve into a bunch of Greg-bashing.   Let's be clear: Greg's not the problem here, or at least, not the main one. The fans are.   They're the ones who decided, after Bionicle's end, to consider Greg the sole arbiter of canon. During Bionicle's run he may have been the "mouthpiece" of the Bionicle story, but he was only one member of a team. And that team, for the m

The Office Convention

Since Aanchir's not gonna blog about it...   Two weeks ago, our family went to a convention for fans of the show "The Office", up in Scranton, PA! We were lucky to have made reservations early this summer (much of our family lives up there), because it was packed! And because one of our great-aunts died three days earlier, so we got to attend the funeral.   But the convention helped to brighten our mood. We got to see The Scrantones (the band that plays the music for the opening credits

Ten Years

Hard to believe it's been ten years since I first joined this little ol' website back in the heady days of 2006.   Both myself and the site have come a long way since then.   Here's to ten more!

Seeking Wii U Friends!

So with Splatoon adding new battle modes geared toward people who want to play online with friends, I figured it was about time to put out another all-call for any of my BZP friends who want to add me to their Wii U friends list. My Nintendo Network ID is "Lyichir" (without the quote marks).   Games I have that feature online play: Splatoon (my current passion—it's the first competitive online shooter that I've really enjoyed) Mario Kart 8 (another game I love—haven't played in a while but I'd

Sculpey=hard

Not the firm kind of hard, as it's actually pretty pliable before you bake it. No, I mean hard to use, especially for making masks. My first sculpey mask turned out good. (I'll post pictures if I ever stop being lazy ) But that had layers, not ridges like my second one has. Or LIPS. If Aanchir designs me another mask that's this hard to make, I'll strangle him.   Anyway, here's my process for making masks.   Step 1: Take one Toa Inika head. Step 2: Coat it in some kind of lub

Repeating my mistakes

Welp. It seems I just don't learn. Recently I confessed to a friend that I had romantic feelings for them. I did it because they had been expressing feelings of loneliness on their social media, but also because keeping it secret had been weighing on me. Anyway, she hasn't taken it well.   I should have known better, because I've made the same exact mistake two other times. I've just been lucky enough the other times to be able to recover from them—the first time, my crush's girlfriend took pity

Re: Bronies

http://andrewbarnick.tumblr.com/post/87440485002/pixelkitties-askasanebrony-retake-the   I was happy to see this on my twitter and tumblr. There's still not much I can do on my own to make bronies and non-bronies alike reconsider what the fandom really means—but hopefully by sharing this I can add my voice to the choir.

Rachira Story Progressing!

I've finished chapter 1!   I've also designed a toa body that I'll use for my story's toa, and I'm about halfway done with a mask for one of them.

Ponies A Meme?

It seems that as soon as Takuma Nuva changed his name to Equinophobia and declared a fear of ponies, all the anti-bronies have been coming out of the woodwork. I'm not blaming Takuma for this, as his comments have been hilarious. What isn't is the proliferation of members replying with "This. I've been waiting for this meme to die" and other such comments.   It does the fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a disservice to dismiss the entire thing as a meme. Does it have memetic aspects? Y

Politics

Guys guys guys.   I just wanted to say I'm generally proud of what's been going on in the blogs lately.   People have been making entries (at least partially) about politics. And the staff has, from what I've seen, been VERY lenient about letting them live so long as they stay civil. And for the most part, they have.   That said, there are some things I'd like to talk about.   Most of us know what happened in Texas. A lot of (generally agreed upon to be) bad stuff went on. Remember that that was

Pokémon Nicknames

So I thought, while the recent Pokémon games are on everyone's minds, I'd blog about nicknames.   I never used to nickname my Pokémon back in the days of G1 or G2. I only started in G3, when I decided on a whim to name my Sceptile "Katana". I don't think I nicknamed any of my others, and that's kind of a relief, considering what my Sceptile's nickname says about my naming skills at the time.   I didn't nickname my team in Pearl Version, and felt bad about it. So from HeartGold and SoulSilver onw
