Rewind back to a couple months ago when I booked and confirmed my trip to the awesome city of Portland. Admittedly, I was unsure at the time about my decision: what would Portland be like? How weird was it actually? Would I have all the fun I hoped I would? Not to mention the fact that I wasn't sure if going to the smaller convention in a new city was better than the larger convention to a city I'd already been to (BrickCon in this case. I doubt you'll see me visit the same con twice in a row un
I had such an awesome time in Portland. I really didn't know what to expect from that city, and I was thoroughly blown away by its food, transportation, and culture. More importantly, I got to hang out with old BZP friends and meet some new ones along the way -- not to mention meeting Wyldstyle in person. Won some free sets (Ninjago ftw), had some great food, and pretty much had a blast. Another shout out to DeeVee and Nukaya for letting me crash at their place for 4 nights. I don't think I'v
I recently was able to watch both The LEGO Movie as well as Frozen. I'll just share some quick thoughts on both: The LEGO Movie Honestly, I wasn't sure about going to see it at first. For one, the trailers didn't blow me away like they did for other people, and I knew I'd probably be seeing it surrounded by noisy kids on a Saturday afternoon (note: Saturday afternoons are the only windows of free time I really have to venture out into the city). Anyway, I heard about the great reviews so
I've debated whether or not to make this, since one could argue in both directions whether or not Chapter 2 of the current arc is "BZPRPG 2014" or "continuation of BZPRPG 2013". We started in 2013, it was in November, and a lot of things changed (not to mention there was another timeskip). At least for news purposes, I've decided to prune all the 2013 stuff to keep the News post clean. Mata-Nui Daily Breaking news: The Gukko Force has tamed Nui Rama?! Flyers about Le-Koro are recruiting new
If the Brick Fiesta folks* are going to continue to have their cons on the same weekend and in a different city than RTX, I'm not sure how they expect me to attend... Not saying I definitely won't be doing Brick Fiesta coverage next year, but... chances aren't very high. Driving between San Antonio and here takes 90 minutes - 3 hours round trip. Whoever plans on attending should remember to bring their camera and their photography skills, and maybe some notes to take. I still really want to
Thinking over 2013 reminded me that despite certain issues, this year was pretty good. Not better than 2012, or 2011 (or any other year except 2007 and 2005) but still pretty good. It started off disappointing, then awesome, then horrible, and has been steadily getting better ever since. I'm glad I was able to make it to PAX East, BrickFiesta, and Brickfair VA this year. The BZPRPG is (in my opinion, both in writing and community) the best it's ever been. Lastly, I got a new job in Austin, which
Hi BZPers, I know it's been awhile since I've posted something. Well, here I am! I felt like rambling about soundtracks in Bionicle fan-works, and you're more than welcome to partake in the discussion with what you think. So about soundtracks, I'd say that there are three major methods (this probably isn't the word to use... I'll try and think of a better one later) to providing music in your game or movie: 1) Use official Bionicle music (ie. MNOLG, Mask of Light, Bionicle Heroes, etc.) Pr
Well, at least I'll be able to contribute to discussions about this now. For real though, one way I felt I could get a feel for what to do (and what not to do) for Bionicle-themed games is by experiencing an official one (I've only ever played the online Bionicle games. Yeah really). It was crazy cheap too. I mean, how bad could it be?
(This is the only blog entry that I'm reposting from the data loss. These updates help me keep track of my progress) It's hard to believe it's been a whole month since my last entry. I must have been a lot busier than I thought. Anyway, I thought it might be time for another update for you guys on progress. First thing, I've purchased more assets to use from Unity's Asset Store. It had some duds, but occasionally you can find something good, and on sale too! I paid for some animation sets
So I played Flow of the River for the few-hundredth time a few days ago. Honestly, my major inclination to play it again was really just to see if it even remotely stood the test of time. After all, that game, which barely runs correctly on modern Windows machines, is over 12 years old. Yes. 12 years. This game played a major role in me joining this community and getting into game development, even if said development was really just tinkering around with RPG Maker. While I disliked the
I'm about to start that big overhaul on my Character Controller system a.k.a. the literal backbone of my game. No pressure right? Not if I back up my project!
My Character Controller system, a vital asset that I use for my game mechanics, got a big update last week, and I decide to take the plunge and try integrating the new version into my current project. It's not going to be easy, and it's probably not going to be fun, but the new features that the new version has has way too many advantages to pass up. Not only will it make developing the player character much easier, I'll even able to add some new tricks that the player will be able to do. In
It was awesome and weird* and refreshing. The con featured great MOCs, great presentations, and great people. It was a pleasure meeting all you. Special thanks to those who came up to say hi to me. I'm still kinda tired since I got in very late and had to continue my job today. Caffeine is keeping me in good shape for now though. Back to normalcy, I guess. *=in a good way of course
So... you guys are all still working on yours right? It's a little less than two weeks until the deadline, so you still have time. But yeah... hopefully there will be lots of cool ideas come August 9th.
It's been awhile since I posted an update on my upcoming Bionicle game. During the period of silence, I've actually gotten a lot of features completed (though they're still virtually all core game features). Anyway, I just thought I post some updates to my project. Check out this entry to learn more about what I'm working on. Character Customization System You can probably guess what this does. In Power Lies Beneath, players, upon creating a new character / save file, will be able to choose t
My home forum is finally getting another contest if its own. And guess what? You don't even need to be a programmer or an artist! No, the entries in this contest are going to be detailed ideas for games that (if they're BIONICLE) will probably never get made. (Of course, OTC game ideas are allowed as well, but make sure those go into the OTC forum). Here's the link to the advert topic. The only thing I can say now is that this contest really needs the skills of non-FCGers in order to work. I
I will be attending Brickfair in two weeks, from Friday to Sunday (I leave Monday morning). I look forward to putting many names to faces, as well as seeing Chantilly set the bar on LEGO conventions once again. You will likely find me either with Black Six's crew or the BZPRPG crew, or both, if we merge, haha. I hope to meet everyone who's attending sometime that weekend!
... was awesome! I'll just put that out there right now. I'm going to do a full write up of everything I remember from my few hours in the Mesquite convention center tomorrow. Hopefully it can get posted on the front page along with my pictures. Until then, good night. 7+ total hours of driving with no one to talk to. I'll take a break tonight.
Hello BZPers, If you happen to be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on the weekend of July 5th - 7th, I recommend making a visit to Brick Fiesta. I will be there on the public hours on Saturday (around 10:00 am and leaving at 4 PM). I believe Toaraga also is planning to be there. You'll know it's me because I'll be wearing one of the BZP shirts that I own. Definitely consider it, if you have an opportunity to attend. More info on Brick Fiesta is here.
Hello everyone, I'm back with another entry. I never thought that I would get to this point, but I can't say that I'm surprised. Since I started working last year, I have been able to get a steady cash flow, which means that I can set some income aside for savings and for feeding my hobby. This has led to me buying assets that I normally would not have purchased (mostly graphical assets, but sometimes I do spring for robust coding solutions like this AI code package that I bought). Obviously
Good evening, role-players. Please find all the news updates from this past season in this blog post for your convenience. Feel free to discuss items here, and if someone wants to port this over to the Wiki, that's perfectly fine with me. Happy new season everyone! -------------------- Mata-Nui Daily Rahkshi! Makuta's most feared seem to have crawled out of the darkest depths in droves. Defenders are quickly on the move taking up positions around each of the villages, in what is looking t
As soon as I announce my devlog I realize that I'll be quite busy these next couple of weeks studying for this Google Interview, finding an apartment, packing, and moving to Austin. Ah well, this time next month should be smooth sailing. Of course, that's not to say these aren't exciting times.
Man, so many good things this week: BZPRPG 2012 arc is finally over I'm working on fan games again Found at that the BZPRPG staff will likely be rolling deep at Brickfair VA (yes, I'll be attending this year). I scheduled a video interview with Google yesterday Found out today that I'll be moving to Austin, home of Rooster Teeth, Bats, Brick Fiesta (sometimes), and "Austin Java" (don't know much about that) because I accepted a job offer there. I'm still doing the Google Interview though; j
I definitely enjoyed the movie. I went in with low expectations and was presently surprised. Kept me engaged throughout the whole thing, and I actually enjoyed most of the twists. Some parts of the movie I kinda groaned at (they're at the end, so I can't explain in detail), but overall it was a fun experience.
