The Deal With Bs01

Chols

So BS01 has just moved servers. We had been planning this for a while, but due to errors on our part, the move was more hasty and risky than we had hoped. We're currently in the process of restoring pages, and have been getting a lot of questions about the site's status, so I hope to answer a few important questions here.

  • All BS01 main pages have been saved; however, some may not be up to date. We saved as many pages as we could before the server crashed for good. This did not cover all pages, but fortunately, we have older backups from November 10th, so any pages missing will be in those backups. We will not know for sure what edits may be lost until we finish importing backups. We ask that you DO NOT recreate any pages until they have been restored.
  • All HS01 pages were archived and are fully up to date. Woot! Those pages shall be imported very soon.
  • Most main user pages are saved. If your user page was in the Users category (all pages using the User template are in this category by default), then your page should already be restored. If it is missing, you will have to recreate it. Virtually all user sub-pages are lost as they were not categorized. Any missing content can be accessed in a Google or Bing cache. We apologize for any personal content you may have lost. To prevent this issue in the future, put ALL pages you want us to archive in the Users category.
  • All image files were saved by Swert. He will upload them ASAP, but they are not top-priority at the moment.
  • I am currently the only staff member who can import pages. This process has proven to be somewhat more difficult that we anticipated, and since I am approaching my college finals, this may take a few days. I guarantee that I will import every page ASAP. (If anyone here knows basic XML and would like to help out, please PM me and I'll show you how you can help.)
  • We are currently considering plans to avoid data loss in the future. Once this is done, issues such as these will be much less common.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please leave them here or PM Swert. Thank you all for your understanding.

And if anybody wants to volunteer their services recovering pages from caches, they are entirely free to do so :)

[This is welcome, but again, please do not do so until the page has been restored -woof]

It's not going to be an instantaneous thing, but nothing of value has been lost.

My page was in users

It is not alive anymore.

Could you please tell me how to access these magical "caches" of which you speak?

That's odd. Perhaps I have not imported them all yet. If I manage to find it, I'll let you know.

For now, go to Google and start an advanced search. Search for User:Shadonix with the site filter set to biosector01.com Then you can access the Google cache from the search results.

Will do; thanks.

If there's anything I could do, I'd be happy to help.

I know minimal XML, but I've imported wiki pages (and worked with the XML dumps) in the past.

You saved it because you're awesome :>

Unfortunately I never got around to categorizing the news pages, so those appear to be lost XP. Anybody wanna cache those for me? =D

Cache them yourself I'm busy with the important stuff. >:(

And once we're done, let's please remember to make a news category o_o

looool

I tried, but we were literally saving content as the site was crashing. o_o Eventually it just couldn't run any longer, and we had to quit,

We did save important pages, like all the character, location, and creatures pages. But their XML files are so stinkin' huge that I haven't had enough time to break them down.

Say, Cholie, did you happen to get the kanohi stuff? Just curious, as I have a question about that, and it can't get answered right now, obviously. =P Unless, of course, someone knows. It's just a simple Noble Kakama question. =P
