I just realized, this is a fantastic and totally viable idea.

Maybe not leatherbound, but we COULD do a kickstarter to print. I know a few private printing companies that will print books... and I'm sure there are some good fanartists who would love to take part.

What sort of backer rewards would even come along with it, though? Besides the book, I mean. Your alias, defined and inserted? Exclusive signed copies?

If you paid enough, maybe you could actually get your copy of the book leatherbound? *shrug*

Honestly I would back something like this in a heartbeat. It would be so cool to have a physical copy of the Matoran Dictionary, dangit.

I think most people who donate would want a copy. So if you want a copy, you basically 'donate' the cost of one. Not sure what perks we'd have for going above that, though. Perhaps larger prints of some of the artwork? Signage is definitely an option.

I'm really not promising leatherbound, I don't know if any of the open publishers can do that sort of thing.

Not sure about having unique pages in each print (which would be necessary for having your alias in there, unless you want everyone to have your name in there, which honestly would be kind of cheap-looking)... but I can look into that.

I'll ask Tolkien about this, I really think a lot of people here would love to have one. And I can contact some higher-quality Bionicle fan-artists.

I thought about that. We have to make sure it's non-profit; all of the money has to go toward production of the books and whatever else is offered. (We may need to have a max donation limit in that case.) Extras can go toward extra copies of the books, which could be given to BZP and other groups as contest giveaways and etc.

And honestly I'd be willing to make that conversation with LEGO licensing if that comes to it - I probably would anyway, because I like to be sure and thorough about such things.

tl;dr I'm keeping that in mind.

Or, it could be self-published? People would just pay the person who buys the copies?
