I've just noticed, that those Japanese characters on the packaging of Exo-Force sets that reads トクシュブタイ (or tokushubutai) are the Japanese words 特殊 (tokushu) meaning special, or unique, and 舞台 (butai) meaning stage, setting or scene. So tegether, they mean something like, "unique setting."

 

I don't know if that was intentional or not, but I thought it was pretty cool so I thought I'd point that out. :)

Yes! Thank you! That thing was driving me abso-friggin'-lutely nuts. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what they were talking about.

Wouldn't it be better just to keep the kanji and not mess me up like that? And isn't "unique setting" the last thing that Exo-Force is?

I thought katakana was for non japanese words...

It is, but it's possible to spell regular Japanese words in Katakana. It's just not commonly used.
