I put off registering for as long as possible, until I was basically told that I would be thrown in jail soon if I didn't. Which seems a bit extreme, but okay.

I don't necessarily agree with the draft, or throwing people in jail for not registering. If a war is just and right, a draft wouldn't be needed.

I don't think anyone has been thrown in jail (that I know of), but if I recall correctly they do revoke student aid (if it's awarded through FAFSA) and you become inelligble for government jobs. Amongst a bunch of other negative reprecussions. I'd have to look them up again.

Which, for me at the time, having that aid revoked would probably have been just as bad. I don't necessarily agree with it either, but it is what it is.

Huh. I don't have a shot at college anyways, so the repercussions aren't as looming. Fortunately, though, I don't forsee a draft in the next few years.
