It was good, very good. It didn't exceed my expectations but it didn't disappoint.

We had crafted many theories at home so unfortunately there was nothing that was truly surprising. We guessed right why Luke Skywalker didn't appear until the very end, i.e. we guessed he had exiled himself out of a feeling of failure after his student Kylo Ren turned to the dark side (and his feeling of guilt towards Han and Leia makes his motivation even more interesting than we supposed), though we thought Kylo Ren would be Luke's son and not Han's. Han's death scene was tragic but not unexpected, as soon as Han and Kylo stood on the bridge (making one of the visually most stunning scenes in the entire Star Wars franchise) I had a bad feeling about it. :P The movie seems to hint quite strongly that Rey is also Han's daughter but I'm not entirely sure about that yet, I think she may be Luke's daughter. We'll have to see. The lightsaber fight in the forest looked fantastic by the way.

My main gripe with the movie is that it took a little tad too many elements right out of the fourth movie - another giant star destroying weapon that gets destroyed near the end of the movie, really? :P Which is why I'm going to give it a 9/10 "only". It was a very good movie still, definitely one of my favourite Star Wars movie and better than any of the prequels (though please note I'm not a prequel hater by any means, I just think they're very different from the OT but they have their own place in my heart). Looking forward to what the next episode has to offer! At the very least I expect we'll find out where Maz got Luke's lightsaber from.

What's your opinion of the movie? What were your debunked theories and what are your new ones? :) Don't forget the spoiler tags. ;)

Personally, I think Han Solo isn't dead. :D I mean, Luke survived a fall down into a huge chasm after getting his hand chopped off, and the Emperor survived a heck of a lot of things, including falling down a chasm. Han Solo coming back would not surprise me, not only because of past occurrences, but also because it's Harrison Ford, and his character generates views and in turn, money. Taking him out altogether takes away some nostalgia from fans. I just can't believe they would kill him off so quickly.

I would be shocked if that were the case...Consider that he was stabbed, knocked into a chasm, and to top that off, the Starkiller exploded into a star. Even Luke and the Emperor wouldn't have survived that. And perhaps more importantly, Harrison Ford wanted for Han to be killed off, even as far back as RotJ.

Personally, I think that Han's death was perfect: It makes me hate Kylo Ren, and it cuts ties with the old series. Although, I guess Luke will be one of the main characters in Episode VIII.

I walked out of the theater thinking that Rey must be Luke's daughter, but now, I don't know. What I hope is that Luke was only training her; I don't think we need another big reveal about who's related to who. :P

I have seen a theory that she might be distantly related to Obi Wan, that could be cool.

I'd rather he stayed dead (I know that sounds macabre). He was a great character, we had a lot of fun with him but he has had his run, and his departure was worthy. Let's focus on the new characters now.

The movie seems to send quite strong ambiguous hints that she's either Luke's or Han's daughter. My favourite outcome would be the Luke theory, the Obi-Wan theory would seem a bit out of the blue but I wouldn't really hate it either.

Spoiler

Fair enough. I had no idea that Harrison Ford had wanted that. :)
