what trip? there was a bunch of zooming in and out of random frames from random games with really cliche "hey guess what feel NOSTALGIA NOW" music that didn't sound like pokemon at all

Oh whee.

This is one of the reasons I don't get into the Pokemon franchise.

In fairness, the game announcement itself was probably meant to be the main news of the Direct—and it was undercut by being leaked the day before. On its own, news of an entirely new generation of games, on the 3DS, within the year, would've been a pretty big bombshell, with or without other details. But since most everyone in the know was already expecting that, the only news in the Direct consisted of more language options and the ability to import Pokémon from the new Virtual Console rereleases (which is, admittedly, pretty cool).

Though in fairness, I was waiting throughout that whole flashback video for the background music to turn into a recognizable Pokémon tune and it never did. So you have a point there.

Pretty much what Lyichir said.... Right down to the Pokemon tune; I hadn't actually given it much thought, but that was a missed opportunity. =P
