The 30th Anniversary of Metroid

Toa Smoke Monster

*Thirty years ago yesterday, video game players were introduced to a lone bounty hunter by the name of Samus Aran, who began her journey to rid the universe of Space Pirates and Metroids in the 1986 game titled 'Metroid.' Since then, there have been several titles that have been added to this growing series.

Metroid 2: Return of Samus.

Super Metroid.

Metroid Fusion.

Metroid Prime.

Metroid: Zero Mission.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

Metroid Prime Hunters.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Metroid: Other M.

That's not even mentioning the Metroid Prime Pinball game, The Metroid Prime Trilogy game, Samus's appearances in the the Super Smash Bros. series, and Metroid Blast on the Nintendoland game.

Despite all these games though, Metroid still isn't one of Nintendo's biggest lines. It definitely has its fanbase, but its clear that Metroid isn't as popular as Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon. That may arguably be why we are not getting a new Metroid game besides Metroid Prime: Federation Force to mark this occasion. But that doesn't mean we, the fans, can't celebrate the anniversary of this series together.

Happy 30th anniversary Metroid. May your fans continue to destroy Space Pirates, Metroids, and whatever other possibles threats may arise in the future games.

Questions to start conversations:

1. What Metroid game got you into the series?

2. What is your overall favorite Metroid game?

3. What is your favorite enemy and/or boss fight from the games?

4. What is your favorite area from the games?

5. Will you play Metroid Prime: Federation Force?

*I meant to post this entry yesterday, but I couldn't get on BZP when I had free time to do so. Oh well. :P

1. The Prime Trilogy edition.

2. Definitely Metroid Prime. I loved the areas, atmosphere, and overall feel of the game, and the Trilogy Wii controls were perfect.

3. Probably Quadraxis. The spectacle of fighting this gigantic machine in the huge arena, combined with the multiple boss phases and cool music, really made it a memorable fight.

4. Phendrana Drifts, definitely. It has those beautiful desolate landscapes, and the best music of any area.

5. Yeah, because I've heard that various enemies from the Prime Trilogy return, and I want to see those.

1. Metroid: Fusion. Not just my first Metroid game, but it's the first game I really remember playing, too.

2. Fusion, if only because it was my first, and it's the one I've played the most. Prime 2 is also pretty good...though mostly because I enjoyed the multiplayer a lot.

3. SA-X in Fusion. Man, lots of fusion on here...though considering that beating the SA-X was like killing a demon from my childhood, this makes sense.

4. It's hard to say, honestly. I quite like most of the environments in the Prime games. Yes.

5. Yes. Sure, it isn't a main series game, but a) it looks fun on it's own and b) it IS a Metroid game. And supporting the series is a good thing to do.

(Also Another Metroid 2 Remake was finished yesterday. Shame Nintendo took it down already...what a way to "celebrate". Removing a labor of love for the Metroid series on the freaking anniversary.)

Glad to see other people interested in Federation Force. Maybe some of us can do some missions together if possible. :)

That is a shame. Though I did something saying the claim might not actually be from Nintendo and be a false one, and that if it is, the game could return. I don't know how true that is, since I read about it Twitter. But I guess this gives the fans some hope.

i really hope it is a false claim, tbh. especially since nintendo didn't issue a C&D during the entire developmental phase. it wasn't even kept a secret that it existed and that it was actively being worked on
