Toy Story 4 Review

Jean Valjean

:kaukau: I'm saving my more serious review for another blog. This is just the one where I give a synopsis of my thoughts.

Good movie, as a standalone. There was an interesting theme about finding balance between living for others and finding time for yourself.

Buzz was strongly out of character, and they didn't have enough of him in the movie. He really should have been there as a constant thematic foil to Bo Peep, and also to make the movie as emotionally fulfilling as possible.

Bo Peep needed a flashback, a la Jessie from Toy Story 2. That having been said, after twenty years of not seeing her, her animation is beautiful.

The story, in my opinion, takes outside of the main narrative and thematic arc of the first three movies, and I don't feel like this is part of the Toy Story proper. I would say that this would have been better served if it had been marketed as Woody's Story.

Weirdly enough, I prefer Bo Peep's look from the first two. She looked like a ceramic doll in those, which I assume she's supposed to be. In this one, not so much.

I'm not sure how I feel about the movie. Still forming an opinion.
