where are they now?

hey everybody! I decided to visit bzp last night and was really happy to see a lot of familiar usernames. I joined here back when I was only 15 years old... I'm nearly 30 now, and looking at my post history on this account it looks like I haven't regularly posted here since bionicle gen 2 was coming out. I think the best part of checking around sites I used to frequent is seeing the familiar users getting into careers they enjoy, getting really into a new hobby, or otherwise just doing new things in life.

So here's my question for everybody, whether you've been here a long time or not. What have you been up to since Bionicle ended?

As for me, I became a game developer. Not my full time gig yet, I'm working as a cook full time now too. Back during my teenage bzpower days, I always thought I would be a visual artist or novelist, but nowadays I'm way more into game dev and producing music. I can't link my project since it's fairly M-rated, but I have one game on Steam! My goal right now is to make a lot of little arcade projects in my signature garish grossout style.

Anyway, this is me procrastinating. I should be programming right now, lol. Let me know what you've been up to! See you all around! ❤️

Hey, I don't really remember you, and I have no idea if you remember me, but I'm glad you decided to check in!

I remember Bionicle G2 ended right as I was entering into college. I've graduated now, and I'm currently studying for a master's degree. I've been working surveying jobs throughout school, but I finally got job offer from an engineering firm to start this summer!

I don't think we interacted before now(?), but so glad to see another blogger!
Oh goodness, 2016-17?
I'm still careerless and ..a uh...a disabled/sickly daughter concocting creations. My life became less weird in light of COVID total isolation, haha.
My mom inherited a rundown animal hoarder house and I excitedly overworked in an unspoken effort to repay my parents for past medical bills. Unfortunately I further damaged my health, but would do it over again. Mess from 28 dogs, 4 horses, 4 acres,  3 floors and the Rat Resistance would have been an overwhelming predicament for 2 people.
Finished reading what I count the most valuable piece of writing on earth.
Medical mishaps are normal now. Thankful for financial aid & everyday I wake up still alive.
I've had the pleasure of watching my (once very ASD) bro finish college, intern a lot, grow independent & move 13 carhours north for a job. He's coming home this week, after two years of that career, to buy his first car + soon move 13 carhours south (from our home) for a new job.

So yes, Tragedjoy, I guess?  Mightily thankful to be here and even for the trials. <3

How fascinating to see an entry like this, always love to hear how BZPers turn out.  Game dev/making music sounds awesome, congrats & hope you prosper in it!

You probably don't have to worry about posting your M game. Stuff like this has been popping up a lot recently, and it never gets deleted, so you'll probably be in the clear. :P

I'll admit I don't think I recall seeing you around much, but it's still nice to have people coming back. :)

As for me, I haven't been up to much. Work and lazing around all day lol.

Thanks for the replies everybody! Honestly my most active years on here were '07-'10 under a different account which got deleted for reasons I can't really talk about. But I went by the username Cap'n Kopaka and I think my most memorable footprint on this website was those silly spinning leeches. Remember when signatures were only allowed to be, like, 100 pixels high because it was like 2009 and the server was probably a potato?

For anybody curious, I'll mention the game not by name. It's a weird personal/passion project about the internet. Right now I'm really trying to focus on less experimental stuff, just to get my name out there 🙂

:O I remember those leeches! Wow it's been a long time.

I remember your previous name, and the leeches! :D It's been a while...

As for me, finished my master's degree in physics, now moved on to computer science. Well, and found a job.
I'm still drawing on the side, but that is and has always been my 'personal project' space. :)

Game development sounds cool!

So uh, I might have this completely wrong since this was well over a decade ago and my memory from when I was a kid isn't particularly great on the details, but I'm pretty sure I recognize your old alias, and think I owe you an apology for taking some feedback/criticism of my horrendous artwork of the time waaaaay too personally, haha. I was an extremely immature, cringey and spiteful little child, and seriously, I sincerely apologize if you ever had to put up with any of that sort of behavior from me at the time; I don't think I had a hand in what happened to your old account, but I uh, wouldn't be surprised if I did ... If that doesn't ring any bells then please disregard, lol.

...Regardless, I'm glad to hear you've been doing well, huge congratulations on getting your game out there. After I finished high school I spent a few months taking a program for game art and design, quickly learned it wasn't for me; there's just an absolutely massive amount of all sorts of different work involved to get pretty much any sort of game developed and released, especially if you're doing it with a small group or all on your own. Honestly, huge respect for getting it done!

For the past several years I've been focusing on honing my artistic abilities, somewhat recently I finished a rather extensive program on graphic novel/comic making. Since the pandemic began I've been working full beans using what I've learned on a single unreleased project of mine, with the hopes of being a published freelance Graphic Novel Artist someday if I can continue to afford the endeavor. If not, I've been also looking into courses for Commercial Illustration as a less fulfilling but (hopefully) somewhat more financially stable alternative. We'll see how it all turns out!

Wishing you the best of luck with all your current and future endeavors my dude.
