this site makes me feel old

almost 16 years since I joined this site as a kid. it was a major part of my life for so long. to say that my time and the people I met here was instrumental to my development would be an understatement.

so many friendships came and went, even a relationship started and ended here, and the drama - so much drama. all the arguments, bullying right-wing bigots, carving out an identity and (infamous) reputation through so many different phases and identity crises. Laughin'Man, Scythey, Ryuujin, Serein, Heck - I changed so much from the time I started here till I faded away that it feels like I was five different people, and there's a little bit of every one that's made me who I am today.

shout out to the 3 people who might see this and think, "hey, I remember him". and to the handful of people who joined after I left who are reading this and thinking "who's this weird old guy?" just remember when you're pushing 30 the people, places, and things that got you there.

Hey, I remember you! ... Kinda. I instantly recognized your username, although its been so long that I can't remember from which part of the forums ^^;;

I can heavily relate to this. All these years later, and most the people I still chat and hang out with (including my fiancée!) are friends I made here all those years ago. It sure makes me feel old seeing how quickly time has passed, and all the drama that used to go on here certainly was... Something... But I wouldn't trade anything for the time I spent here :)

You're not the weird old guy. That would be me. Nice to see you got some real-world friendships and experiences out of BZPower. I always envied that a little regarding all the missives I read between staff, retired staff, and their friends and sycophants alike. I think BZPower in the "real world" was mainly an east coast phenomena, and people like me here in Texas weren't really "in" on the community that was concentrated around the Bos-Wash metropolitan corridor. I always wanted to go to BrickFair and co-mingle, but it never happened. Thank goodness for Brick Rodeo here in Texas, even though I have met no BZPower members nor even BIONICLE fans through these Texas-based conventions. Anyway, I'm rambling, as old people do.

Yeah Brickfair VA is both the biggest Lego con in general and Bionicle specifically. Bionicle section is huge and still seems to be growing. These days, there's quite a few people who got Bionicle without coming through BZP, but there's still probably more BZPers there than there are on the site these days.

If it's alright to ask, how many BZPers typically attend? I assumed it was only around five or ten members. It so amazes me that anyone has the courage to interact in-person with internet people! ^-^

I guess depends how you define it. Probably a couple dozen at least, although most aren't really active here any more.

It was definitely scary for me the first couple times too, but if I hadn't met a few people in person, I don't know if I'd have even stuck around so long.
