Something Needs To Be Said About This

This is something I've been mulling over for the past few days. Enjoy.

Now first of all, I want you to take a look at two pictures and spot the similarities. Ok ready?

Picture 1

Picture 2

Find the similarities?

Neither did I.

You see due to a certain rant by Tufi it has become taboo to use nuva shoulder pads and rackshi heads for breasts in MOCs. Now refer back to the two images. No similarities. To claim that the aforementioned parts can not be used for breasts is to claim that we can't use rackshi limbs as arms because they don't look like human arms. It's simply rediculous.

That said onto the next thing I feel the need to discuss.

There's been a general hate for well endowed females on Artwork I. I think Tufi's done a rant on this subject too. This is something harder for me to combat. Hard but not impossible.

You see people, the same argument applied to well endowed females can also be applied to overly mascular men. Honestly, when was the last time you saw a male Toa that wasn't well built? Let alone overweight? Or fat? The answer is never. I have never seen an overweight male Toa. Why? Because we don't like to look at imperfection. We like to see what's good and perfect. That's why we have muscular males and well endowed females in art. Because they represent the perfection of the human body. Muscular Toa are about just as degrading to men as well endowed females are to women.

And there's always the often quoted but never followed saying of "If you don't like it then don't look at it."

That said, Jone's Candy Corn soda tastes awful. Don't drink it.

The way I see it, if you want your female moc to have oversized breasts and slim physique, then moc it as that. No one is a pro on how a gender-based moc -should- look like.

The main reason for doing the MOC rant was because I've seen people complain about some members using the said parts in MOCs. IMO, you shouldn't be detracting scores because people use parts that an Admin has expressed disdain for.

The reason that blog entry of mine exists in the first place was because 1) too many people were using it as a symbol for breasts (as in 'don't draw the symbol, draw what you actually see', one of the finer suggestions that can be given when someone asks for help with art) and 2) it didn't even look good there. People would break colour schemes and the general flow of their MOCs just to use 'the breast pieces'. This is very bad building. This seemed even more out of place when it was taken into consideration how people would comment on how ill-fitting improper legs, torsos, heads, etc. would be, but ignore woefully out-of-place breasts.

To whittle my commentary down to 'Tufi wants to take away our right to big boobs oh no' isn't an oversimplification: it's wrong. I just want people to do things competently. If that means taking extra time to figure out what would make for large breasts that actually fit a given MOC (and yes, like so many other things, this should be on a MOC-by-MOC basis), then hey, who am I to discourage good building habits? The part of that entry you seem to have overlook is the part where I go over how important it is to find something that fits that MOC.

The same goes for art. Drawing the symbol is just plain laziness ('hm, so breasts are spheres, right? I'll just give her a few of those right up here). If you want to be good at building or drawing a humanoid form, study the most humanoid form we've got. The human body really is nothing to be ashamed of. So, why not study it and put your learnings into practice in your MOCs and art?

Well Nuva Shoulder Armor and Rahkshi Heads are well rounded, perfect for the job. I can't think of any other Lego part that you could use, since circuler Lego bricks won't do the justice.

I'm not attacking what you said in your blog entry. I merely pointed out where it originated from. I understand that nuva shoulder pads and rackshi heads sometime's don't work for MOCs. I'm just saying that people should not be criticizing MOCs just because they use the said parts. Sure, detract them if they break the color scheme or if they seemingly just slapped them on as an afterthought. But do not detract points because of said parts being used in some places.

Once again, I'm not criticizing you, just the way some people act on your oppinions.

And now that I actually look, I apparently don't remember your blog as well as I thought I did. :P I agree with you on the whole entire "boobs =/= spheres" issue. I've done a rant on it in my blog actually. However once again I'm not saying that you're wrong, just that the way some people take your views are. Some people have the preception that "Well endowed = Bad Artwork" I've seen whole comments on artwork just and only critiquing the breast proportions of the drawing. This shouldn't be the case. I am all for proportion critiquing, just not only having proportion critiquing being the only thing you critique.

And before you counter with the whole "massive boobs" argument let me go ahead and say this.

"Disproportional=/=instant good work"

And just because I believe in needs stating once again.

I'm not against your points, just the way people take them.

Boobs, huh?

Well, straight off, Lego themselves used them for Roodaka, right? So why the fuss? They're biomechanical Lego models, not big naked humans. They're there to signify feminininininimity, and as long as they don't stick out like a sore thumb, who cares? Heck, the only people who do that are nitpickers and tights, It's your MOC, do what you want with it.
