Charlie Brown Redux
The Cruisers lost to the Titans, but every other game the Titans needed went the other way, so the playoff field has been pared down anyway. Wrapping up in Kenner next week against the playoff-bound Kastrators. My bench outscored both our starters, so apparently I don't know what I'm doing.
Yesterday (Saturday) was supposed to be a day that Stuff Got Done. I drove up to Baton Rouge to visit for a little bit with Michael & Brandy, wrap my gift for my mom, discuss the gift for my dad, and pick up a ceramic tree that used to be in my room growing up, but my mom let Michael take to Metairie when he moved into this same apartment complex in 2004. (Since Katrina, he and Brandy bought a house not terribly far away from Giganuva Upsilon's place, and aren't going to be moving back to Metairie any time in the forseeable future.)
Well, the saying goes "Two out of three ain't bad." Eeyore is sufficiently tissue papered away, ready for pickup, and I've put $30 against greens fees for 2 at San Maria (I think. Help me out here, GN; it's the one behind Blue Bayou.) golf club outside Kleinpeter, LA, just so Mom & Dad can have a change of venue or something.
But the ceramic tree, nothing doing.
Not in Moss Bluff.
Not at Michael's house.
Not in Klotzville.
Not in Plattenville.
...and certainly not in Metairie.
I'm worried that it may be lost for good. And that's not good, because I have fond memories of that tree growing up.
In any case, it won't be here this year. So, time to find an alternative.
On Highland Road, there's a year-round Christmas store. I passed it a few times on the way to Highland Road park, to play disc golf, but I actually stopped this time. This place used to be a barn, and it's now two stories of wall to wall Christmas. It even smells like Christmas.
Long story short, I bought this 2 foot artificial branch that evokes mental images of a Charles Schulz cartoon, two strands of lights, and an extension cord at Wal*Mart this evening. If you drive by my apartment at night, now, look up to my apartment (I live on the third floor) and you can see a Christmas tree in the window.
I'm going to make sure it's visible from the ground/street tomorrow evening: too cold/windy/late tonight.
It's the little touches that count, y'know?

P.S. Tomiku, Lady K: you will know who I am the weekend after this coming one. It should be obvious....like it should have been obvious to the BZPers I met at Brickfest.
