Work Day Three Raaaaantaaaage
It is not wise to work two days and then go five days without work. My head was so out of it when I first started working today. I kept making mistakes on the register and forgetting stuff. It did not help matters I had other stuff on my mind from before going to work. After I started doing things everything started coming together though. I stopped making mistakes and I even learned how to do gift cards.
Maybe it would be better if I drove myself to work. See before leaving the house my parents were all flustered and rushing. My dad didn’t want my mom driving fast to get me there on time. He was going to come with us but he had to be home in time to drive to work. It didn’t help matters we had the slightly sick kid with us. First my dad and the kid were coming with us. Then the kid got sick so they were both staying home. Then my dad was just staying behind and the kid was coming with us.
So I was just sitting in the front seat, sitting and waiting. My mom was like “are you okay?” I’m perfectly fine I’m just waiting on them to make up their minds and get into a more sensible frame of mind. I said “Love you.” The usual farewell while everyone was talking and we left. Then my mom went “You need to tell your dad bye and hi more often.” I was like “I just told him I love him.” And “We’ll he didn’t hear you. He doesn’t hear you like I hear you and I can barely hear you.” I’m sorry I don’t talk loud and I’m quiet by nature. I’m sorry my dad works in a mill and his hearing isn’t that great. I said goodbye I love you every time we leave.
Then on the drive to work she asked if I liked working there. I told her yeah, I like it. Then she told me that I need to tell the people I work with if I don’t like working there. That’s really encouraging to tell me to quit if I don’t like work. Maybe this is harsh but my mom isn’t in the place to be giving that type of advice. She’s been intent on quitting walmart for the past few years and she still hasn’t. She just had a job interview last week for a new job and what does she say? “Oh I think I’ll stay at walmart.” So much effort into applying at every place in the area for a job and after the interview she settles for staying at walmart.
She got me to work on time but my mind was so taxed. I forgot to hit the right buttons on the register and had to void out purchases. Then I gave a customer the wrong amount of change. Plus I kept forgetting to do a few things here and there like when I went from one task to another.
I spent a good portion of the day ringing up purchases and learning the gift card system. I even confirmed that I was doing the credit card purchases properly despite previous worries. I did spend some time cutting up a different type of pepper for an order but stopped because they realized it wasn’t due until Friday. However, I did spend a good bit of time running the slicer. I sliced all the meat and cheeses for tomorrows Italian hoagies. Then I stacked the meats and cheeses in the right order so all you have to do is throw them on bread and they’re ready to go. Lots, lots, lots, lots of dishes today too. The only time I sat down was to eat a small snack and while I cut up a few peppers. I love being able to just get whatever I want to eat though, there are so many options and you don’t really have to cook since it is already prepared. Unlike cooking at home except everything is made right there in the kitchen.
I also filled out my work forms so they can get me on the payroll. Of course we aren’t really sure if I filled things out properly or not. The whole dependant and question form was confusing for everyone and none of them really understood it. Suffice to say I’ll have to file income taxes sometime in the future since I’m a working man now. That really added to the distracting mind occupying that had me processing and making so many errors.
It wasn’t so bad in the end I suppose. I finally met the boss and once I got out of the funk I was in everything was good. Hopefully tomorrow will have a brighter outlook. As for now, I’m going to go eat dinner, play some Mass Effect 2, and watch all the great shows on tonight: Warehouse 13, White Collar, and Cover Affairs.
EDIT I forgot to mention I need to get my food handler’s license.
