Stumbling through songwriting

I was just catching up on BZPower blogs and came across Windrider's recent blog entry where she came out as transgender. At some point after I finished reading it I felt inspired, so I started typing on my phone until I had some decent-sounding song lyrics. Unfortunately, I neither write nor play music, so the chance of turning this into a finished song is extremely uncertain. But I figured I'd share them here.   The song is actually BIONICLE-related, written from the perspective of Takanuva aft

Life Updates 7/30/2012

So here's the highlights of my past week. I'm going through them briefly because I just spent an hour or longer typing out an entry about them and then hit the back button and lost everything, but brevity probably would have been better in the first place.   Watched the second episode of this season of LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. Lord Garmadon's mega-weapon is a great addition to the story and is truly in line with the LEGO spirit of creativity. And it's great getting some backstory on

Obligatory Twinkie entry

I don't really ship it, to be perfectly honest. The only Mane Six ships I really have much support for are Flutterdash and Twidash, and both because I think they're cute rather than because I have any interest in seeing those relationships develop into romantic ones. Rarijack is cute but at the same time I'm really enjoying seeing how Spike's relationship with Rarity is developing. With that in mind, I'm not a Sparity shipper in that I would be severely peeved if it turns out that he and Rarity

The Whole "wet Mane Ponies" Thing

Soooo... apparently some weird rule is now in place against wet mane pony pictures. Now, I can put up with this just as well as I put up with other BZP rules that inconvenience me. Better, in fact, because it doesn't really affect me whether other people post such pics or not.   But I do have to say I'm genuinely confused. Does people making joking comments about a non-human cartoon character being "sexy" really drift that close to breaking BZPower rules? If a lot of people posted comments about

Planning to cosplay a LEGO Movie character?

I created this topic for people's convenience, so it's easier to keep track of who's who at which events. If you're planning to cosplay as a character at one of this year's LEGO events, go reply there to have your name, character, and event plans added to the list!

Goodbye, BZPower

As of July 26th, 2020, I am resigning from BZPower staff and voluntarily requesting to be banned. I can no longer trust or vouch for this site as a safe place for users in light of the admins' failure to meaningfully condemn or punish multiple instances of abuse or harassment perpetrated by staff members against fellow BZPower members. I will not elaborate at present, seeing as these are not my stories to tell and I do not want to give staff members who disagree with my decision any motivat

BIONICLE MOCs

A topic about Matoran forms in S&T inspired me to try making some Matoran on LDD.   Then I remembered that the most consistent post-2003 Matoran forms (i.e. the ones I tend to consider standard or near-standard in my headcanon) have extremely restrictive proportions. Very unrealistic, though in an almost comical way.   Then I decided I'd try making some Toa. But Toa don't even get the "comical" excuse. Any post-2004 Toa proportions tend to be quite unrealistic.   It's funny; I always quite l

BIONICLE

Not going to go into details, but I am convinced by the leaked images that have been seen. They are consistent with a lot of the hints we've heard, and the person who originally photographed and posted these images seems trustworthy. Furthermore, they seem consistent with BIONICLE on a thematic level: masked heroes with fantasy weapons versus beastly-looking villains.   If it turns out they are fake and I have been tricked, I will not be the least bit ashamed, by this because these are the most

2010

I see a lot of discussion these days about whether 2010 is the last year of BIONICLE. Figured it's about time that I organized my feelings on the matter in a blog entry.   For starters, I do not care if BIONICLE ends in 2010. Why would I say this, when I've been such an approving fan of BIONICLE's story and set developments? The short answer is that BIONICLE has lived a good life, and is at a point where an end is possible.   The long answer is a lot more complex, and based in part on my obser

Tahu Moc Wip

Click for full   This is still just a WIP; I'm not sure how much I like the neck, and he could really use ears and/or a mane. Inspired by my art contest entry. Speaking of which, check it out if you haven't already!   Topic

From: Unpopular Opinions?

Actually, in 2002 (according to TLG's Annual Report from that year, page 23), BIONICLE was TLG's top-selling product line, immediately ahead of LEGO Harry Potter. LEGO Explore (the rebranding of LEGO Duplo at that time) was TLG's third-highest-selling product, and LEGO Star Wars was only their fourth-highest-selling product. The 2001 annual report doesn't give an organized list of top-selling product lines, but it does treat BIONICLE, Harry Potter, and Bob the Builder as some of the lines that w

Lariska Looks Nothing Like Roodaka

Well, perhaps not nothing like her, but enough that it is blatantly obvious that Lariska is not a Vortixx.   Evidence is present in "Birth of a Dark Hunter," the short story featured at the end of the first BIONICLE encyclopedia. For people who never bought the BIONICLE encyclopedia, have lost theirs, or were intelligent enough to wait for a later edition, the story can be found here. Of course, there is one paragraph that serves as the least debatable evidence.   Clearly, unless Vortixx hav

Special Edition Jetrax T6 Review

Thanks to money obtained from a summer job, I was able to provide my brother Lyichir with a very special Christmas present: The Special Edition Jetrax T6! He has given me permission to review it here in my blog.   Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.   Jetrax's box is, like Mazeka's, very similar to that of the Rockoh T3. If you want an in-depth look at the motifs of that box, visit my Rockoh T3 review

Shoutout

Can anyone give me a reason that the Faxon is feminine? Because seriously, the Elda is feminine. The Faxon is hardly so. Its eye holes are jagged rather than rounded. In fact, its whole design is jagged. And while the Elda has a "mustache" that doesn't look at all like one, the Faxon has two bizarre entities sprouting from its cheeks.   I'll be impressed if anyone can provide one reason the Faxon is more feminine than a typical mask.   EDIT: I'm officially impressed, not with the mask (it'll t

Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian

Most of this post shamelessly copypasted from a post of mine on another site, with minor adjustments   I just happened to stroll to a downtown bookstore during my lunch break on Monday, and found the newest Artemis Fowl book (Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian). I was quite surprised as I hadn't realized it was out yet, but apparently it came out last week.   Having read it, I think it was a phenomenal capstone to the series, and am glad Eoin Colfer didn't take the "final book in the series" thing

Art Contest 18: Final Poll Open!

My entry, Swarm of the Century, narrowly made it through Preliminary Poll A, and as such it's now a contender in the final poll! Click here to go to the poll!   I think it goes without saying that Crunchy's two entries, which dominated the preliminary polls, will also sweep the voting in this poll. It's kind of a shame, because the rules state that each member can only have one winning entry, and I'm worried that with Crunchy's entries so likely to get most of the votes, the margin between the r

Tahu Nuva Phantoka

Well, I've decided I will design a revamp of Tahu Nuva Mistika. About time I tried my hand at setlike revamps. However, since I want to be able to pretend this is official for the sake of my drawings, this revamp will not be Tahu Nuva Mistika, but Tahu Nuva Phantoka. Here is a list of what I have decided to do so far: Same feet as the set. Tahu Nuva Mistika is my favorite of the Nuva Mistika on account of his abundant similarities to Kopaka, a trait which has been standard for Tahu both in sto

Obligatory New Header Entry

So the new header is cool. There could be improvement (some space between Tohu and the BZPower text could help, and it's a bit weird having the text and image overlaid on the dark blue stripe rather than above it vertically), but for me it represents the dynamic status of BZPower as a whole as it changes from strictly a BIONICLE site into something that, in my opinion, better celebrates BIONICLE's lasting influence.   See, with BIONICLE over, it isn't providing the site with anything new to disc

Inika/piraka Torsos: A Treatise

Here. I spent good time on this; please read it.   EDIT: Since it has become clear from this and issues in my personal life that I'm just a horrible, insufferable person who is rude and heartless to people without even realizing it, I'm locking this entry. Yes, locking a discussion that hurts you is a tactic which is pathetic for an avid debater to use. But I ought to have nothing but shame for whatever so-called "talent" I might have with words. There is nothing more to say but that.

Volumes Frequently Described

Post and tell me if you share my interest in these authors: -William Sleator (Wrote Interstellar Pig, Singularity, House of Stairs, The Boxes, Marco's Millions, and much more) -Lemony Snicket / Daniel Handler (Wrote A Series of Unfortunate Events, all of its companions, and some other book I'm too lazy to look up) -Antoine de Saint-Exupery (Wrote The Little Prince, an ingenious allegory which I suggest that everyone read) -Louis Sachar (Wrote the Wayside School trilogy, Holes, Small Steps, a
