Volumes Frequently Described

Post and tell me if you share my interest in these authors: -William Sleator (Wrote Interstellar Pig, Singularity, House of Stairs, The Boxes, Marco's Millions, and much more) -Lemony Snicket / Daniel Handler (Wrote A Series of Unfortunate Events, all of its companions, and some other book I'm too lazy to look up) -Antoine de Saint-Exupery (Wrote The Little Prince, an ingenious allegory which I suggest that everyone read) -Louis Sachar (Wrote the Wayside School trilogy, Holes, Small Steps, a

This Is Not A Drill!

Okay, I've seen this done before, so I guess I'll take a shot at it.   *ahem*   LADY K, CLEAN OUT YOUR INBOX!   -

Eye Color Observations

There are two colors used for the eyes of most 2006-2008 sets. Many have begun to think these eye colors are tiresome. Their official LEGO names are Transparent Neon Green and Transparent Neon Orange, and they are unique in having the distinctive addition of "Neon" in their names. Why is this?   First, let's look at a peculiarity of the Shop-At-Home catalog advertisements for the Av-Matoran and Shadow Matoran sets. The page screams, "Av-Matoran have yellow eyes...!" and "Shadow Matoran have red

Sunday February 12, 2012

This arrived in the mail today. I will be representing BIONICLEsector01 and its sister site HEROsector01, to which I will be reporting.   I tried to see if I could obtain admission to the main ToyFair rather than just the LEGO Collectors Preview, but I don't have near enough press credentials. I suppose all those bronies BZPers out there will have to find other sources for their non-LEGO toy news.   —

Why I Prefer Keetorange For Mata Nui

Let's begin with a quote:   "What happened next was a sight no one present would ever forget. From the depths of the ice rose a creature unlike any they had seen before. His armor looked as though it had been forged from the sun, and his very presence radiated power." --BIONICLE Adventures #9: Web of Shadows   2009 is not the first year in which that shade of yellow-orange which MOCists and other BIONICLE fans tend to call Keetorange was used to depict what might have been imagined in gold. Basis Of The Makuta Mistika

Alright, because I've seen a great number of ridiculous ideas of what the Makuta Mistika are based on, I figured an entry on this would be worthwhile.   Remember that at this stage, these ideas are not laid in stone. Most are merely ideas, albeit ones which I think to be true, and I would be overjoyed if someone can come with a vastly different idea and demonstrate why they feel theirs is correct. Seriously, however awkward some might be, there is a reason you think them to be true, and perhaps

From: Official My Little Pony Topic

Last week the internet speed at my college got ramped up considerably. Naturally, I had to do something to take advantage of this newfound power at my fingertips. So as of Saturday, I have watched every MLP episode released so far. And naturally, I love it. So much that I went through the trouble of reading this topic from the beginning, which is no small task in itself.   Part of me wants to say Fluttershy is best pony, but another part of me clings to the belief that fat pony is best pony.   M

Rockoh T3 Review

Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.   Rockoh's box is a real beauty. On the front you see the Ignika-styled Vitruvian man surrounded by the concentric circular carvings of the Codrex, just as on the Mistika canisters. The difference here is that Little Iggy Faceman is lined up perfectly with the "O" of the word BIONICLE. This touch is made slightly less amazing by the imperfect roundness of the O (or ap

Ac18 Updates

Hi everyone! Don't worry, I haven't given up on my AC18 entry. Since I last blogged about it, I scanned my drawing and put in a lot of work separating the parts of it into different layers, before realizing that it would be easier to just print off some copies of it and color it using non-digital media.   So I have my first colored draft mostlyt finalized now. It uses colored pencil and thus gets a lot more detail than I would have had time to do digitally. However, I am going to print off a cou

~ Hic Est Dies Nostrorum Mortum ~

Although I haven't mentioned it until now, last Tuesday was my school's Latin Banquet. The idea is as follows:   All Latin students can attend. Latin I students (and also some Latin II students this year) are "slaves," and are "owned" by Latin II, Latin III, and AP Latin students. Slave owners can make the slaves do anything within reason for them (i.e. anything legal, ranging from refilling your drink to running around the tables with a smelly sock, screaming, "I'VE GOT THE MAGIC SOCK!"). Colors In Bionicle

Recently I embarked on a quest to identify LEGO's official RGB values for the colors used in BIONICLE. Yesterday, out of boredom, I took it upon myself to transcribe these as well as the color names on my BS01 Sandbox. Some observations: First, BS01's Kraata Variations page is a fabulous resource for identifying official color names, especially metallic color names. The Kraata, despite their bizarre color combinations, managed to stick to colors that had previously appeared in BIONICLE. The fi

Verification Finally Delivered!

I got my premier membership in the same evening in which I applied! I didn't know that could happen! What better way to celebrate than with a BLOG?!   First person to figure out where I got my blog title gets a brownie point.   With all due respect, Aanchir, Rachira of Time   P.S. I'm not totally obsessed with volunteership, I just couldn't think of a better name for my blog.

Summer Set Thoughts, Part 1

Glatorian Legends The Glatorian Legends are an interesting bunch. Certainly they can be regarded as more "generic" than the original Glatorians, but they manage to use innovative new weapons, masks, and combinations of old pieces to establish overall unique looks. I'll address them one at a time. Ackar Ackar is somewhat disappointing with his almost exact Toa Inika build. The Mahri blades which act as his shoulder armor are a neat idea, but sadly one that does not match any of his other arm

Out With The Old

Not sure if anyone is still following this blog. Can't think why anyone would be; there haven't been any updates since 2009 (and the updates weren't that interesting even back then). But if you are, I'd like to update you on how I've been doing since I was last active on BZPower. I'd also like to offer a warning: Things are going to change here. I can't say how much, or how soon, but things are going to change.   Where have I been since I was last active on BZPower? Well, I think I stayed active

On Bionicle Language

It doesn't make sense.   It's not supposed to make sense.   Names are usually chosen arbitrarily from words that sound like an English word with a related meaning and do not exist as brand names for any company, nor as sensitive words to any culture.   The Official BIONICLE Languages Topic is perhaps one of the largest breeding grounds of misinformation on BZP. Today and a few times before I have had to explaint to people that the BIONICLE language, if it does make sense, perhaps only does so

Summer Nuva Mask Review

Well, while BZP was down I got the last of the summer Nuva masks.   No, seriously.   Alright, it wasn't in the Nuva set. But still, Solek does just as good.   Pic 1: Hau Nuva. Comes equipped with standard accursed double-grooves which thanks to Mask of Light replaced the traditional triple-grooves on Lhikan's Hau. But hey, it's the Hau Nuva, so I'll let it slide. Drawing the new and old Tahu Nuva has been fun thanks to this mask.   Pic 2: Kaukau Nuva. Most obvious of the three. Between the

The LEGO Dino site is updated with the "Base", "Nest", and "Fun Zone sections. The Nest sections shows you things about the dinos, while the Base section shows you things about the human characters.   The main character's name in the Base section is Josh Thunder.   Discuss.     Source: Dino 2012 Theme

Phantoka (p)review-- Part One

Well, since everyone else has done (p)reviews, I figure I'll do one, especially in light of the new pic with which the magazine has provided us, better in quality than the leaked pics, even! (Greg was right! )   I'll start with the Nuva, since I want to get this started on a good note.   Lewa Nuva-- Lewa Nuva was initially that which I liked least. Now, with new and better pics available, that role has been passed to Kopaka. The new Miru Nuva, some might argue, is vastly different than the old

On Mistika Height

A lot of people have formed opinions of these sets based on height. Some of these are reasonable. Some of these are not. I'd like to offer some of the info I managed to put together from the newest images.   "Bitil/Gorast is too short" Hardly. The base of Gorast's head when the legs are stretched out (You have to assume a knee joint on Matoran legs, but this is typical of all accurate height measurements) is exactly the height of the base of an Inika's neck. Her legs, when outstretched, are li

How Unfortunate.

Why do people seem to avoid my topics nowadays? Noone's posted in my last two blog entries, and 1/3 of the comments I do have were made by yours truly. My entries may be unpleasant, but they're not dangerous.   My art topic, A Perfect Couple, has been dramatically updated and few people seem to care. I mean, there are still AC12 entries on the FIRST PAGE! I'm only on the second and I still get ignored!   While I'm at it, here's a link to my latest topic, Whekkies! Try to post on it before it d

Art Updates 6/23/2012

Don't forget, the final polls in GAC #18 are up! Click here to go to the poll! My entry, Swarm of the Century, is in the running!   Now, other updates. On Monday I drew and inked a piece based on Neil Gaiman's The Sandman graphic novels, which I will be attempting to color. I haven't decided how I'm going to color it. I was able to color something very well digitally recently (and am near finishing an older drawing that has been incomplete for far too long). But digitally coloring a piece with l

Helmet-masks >.<

You go to a costume shop. There are plenty of Halloween costumes still strewn about, including a variety of rubber masks.   You go to the counter and say, "I'd like that Frankenstein helmet, please."   The clerk is confused. She pulls out a Roman soldier helmet with bolts on the sides. "Is this what you mean?"   "No," you say, "that rubber helmet over there."   The clerk laughs at you. "You doofus," she says, "That's a mask"   DO YOU... Insist that it's a helmet, because it goes on over y

Reasons To Volunteer

This Shakespearean sonnet is another excerpt from my commonplace book:   The V.F.D., we are a noble group Concerned with many villainous affairs. The misery, it threw us for a loop; We mostly volunteer because we're scared.   Our mission is as righteous as the day--- To rid the world of destructive fire. If arsonists and villains get their way, Then chances are we never will retire.   Of secrets we would like to keep a few; Much agonizing truth we must restrain, And many we shall even

Bionicle: Tlr Trailer

Beautiful. Did you hear that music? It's brilliant! It's like a blend of the very rhythmic Cryoshell stuff we've been treated to for the past few years and the MNOLG and animation music from the days of old!   I liked the old movies' music, but daaang. This right here... this is BIONICLE at its finest.   Some of the clips and concept art would seem to foreshadow that the BIONICLE of the past should not be discounted as a future plot element.   Also, the Mata Nui render seems to stylize the wa
