Phantoka (p)review-- Part One

Well, since everyone else has done (p)reviews, I figure I'll do one, especially in light of the new pic with which the magazine has provided us, better in quality than the leaked pics, even! (Greg was right! )   I'll start with the Nuva, since I want to get this started on a good note.   Lewa Nuva-- Lewa Nuva was initially that which I liked least. Now, with new and better pics available, that role has been passed to Kopaka. The new Miru Nuva, some might argue, is vastly different than the old

Did I Somehow Not Make A Korra Finale Entry?

Well, I already mentioned my thoughts on the Korra finale in the Avatar: The Last Airbender topic in COT. I'd rather keep them there where they can be part of an ongoing discussion than talk about them here. I mean, I'd love to jump on the bandwagon, but something else has happened since I watched the finale this morning.   That being that my family's Amazon.com order for the Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novels The Lost Adventures and The Promise parts one and two came in.   My goodness. Bionicle: Tlr Trailer

Beautiful. Did you hear that music? It's brilliant! It's like a blend of the very rhythmic Cryoshell stuff we've been treated to for the past few years and the MNOLG and animation music from the days of old!   I liked the old movies' music, but daaang. This right here... this is BIONICLE at its finest.   Some of the clips and concept art would seem to foreshadow that the BIONICLE of the past should not be discounted as a future plot element.   Also, the Mata Nui render seems to stylize the wa

From: Discussion: The Future Of Bzpower

I take issue with your assumption that a person is not a fan of BIONICLE unless they want it back. I am a fan of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series of graphic novels. Those told a cohesive story in ten books. There have been occasional side-stories released since then, but I have no reason to ever want to see the original comic series come back, because it told a story as well as it could be told in as many books as it needed to tell that story.   Likewise, I'm a big fan of the comic book series T

Exo-force Lulz

Here   Takes a long time to download, but totally worth it. Watch for the scene near the very end: "This team won't let you down!"   Perfect example of storyboard artists having too much fun (and yes, this is a mock-up of what would become the official Exo-Force animations).

Oh Dear. I've Started A Fad.

Check BIONICLE Artwork I if you dare.   PLEASE, people. The caption to my Gelu drawing was meant to be a harmless lolcats reference. It was NOT meant to spawn a fad of sloppy edits and disgusting drawings focused on the BIONICLE fast food industry.   In all honesty, it would be best if this stopped now. My drawing was popular enough, but I am beginning to regret ever bringing my art back to BZPower. The dignity of the BIONICLE Artwork I forum is falling into question, and I'm ashamed that my w

Mata Nui Preserve Us...

There's TWO of them now...   A quick analysis of this MOC: It is not called the Great Ice. It is called the Brackacksis. The model was built by bionicleminotaur for this website's own BBC contest #9. bionicleminotaur may not have his name captalized, but based on his entry post he seems to have a good grasp on the English language. Thus the original (dare I call a plagiarized MOC original?) GREAT ICE is undisputably fake due to its poster's poor grammar and desparate (perhaps disparate would be

One Reason Debating Helps Us Learn

Sometimes, all it takes is a narrow-minded person for us to realize that we're sometimes as wrong as they are.   I had disliked the Mistika Makuta Kanohi and was holding out for some story explanation that might rectify what I thought to be a grave injury by the set designers. After seeing one person fervently debate the point in the official 2008 sets topic (and very well, I might add, as he certainly had ample reason for his views and little opposition proposed that truly conflicted with them

Art Updates - Flash Fire Entry Two and Voting

On the last day of the entry period, I completed my second drawing for the Flash Fire contest. The venerable Turaga Vakama can be found in the same topic as my Jaller drawing which I mentioned in the previous entry.   It feels good to have completed two entries, but if the entries before I had submitted my own were good, the ones that followed in the final hours of the entry period included several that could only be described as stellar. Truly I'm having a hard time deciding what to vote in any

Various Fascinating Discoveries

Yesterday afternoon I found out from a friend that the 5th Artemis Fowl book was out. On Mom's way home, Lyichir called her to ask if she could pick up a copy at Borders. She couldn't find it, but she did find another book off our wish list: The Beatrice Letters.   The book is arranged like a two pocket portfolio, one pocket for "Letters" and another for "Letters". In the "Letters" pocket is the book itself, whereas the "Letters" pocket contains a folder that may be indispensible, a word which

Toa Nuva Mocs...

...are far too often nothing like the Nuva.   Quite a few lately have been "improved" versions of the new Toa Nuva, which regrettably are every bit as bad as the "improved versions" we see on Brickshelf from 2001 and 2002. Essentially, a clutter of armor thrown onto either the original set or some blocky framework meant to somehow look like a Toa. Search "Pohatu Nuva" on Brickshelf and you'll scarcely find a decent MOC. I've seen about one so far.   And what ever happened to color scheme? MOCs

Hi. << >>

Errr… glad to still be alive?   Many apologies for not having been on any of my usual sites in weeks. My laptop’s adapter is broken and has been for a very long time, but the most direct reason for my inactivity is that my brother’s adapter has broken as well! It still functions when you line it up right, but… since I’m uncomfortable on any computers besides my own laptop and the school computers (maybe in part because of this “tab” business I have to deal with on more recent versions of Intern

Here's To You, Lady K!

This picture is based on the pics that Lady K uploaded of herself recently. She said I could post it, but I didn't know what forum to put it in. Lyichir suggested that I put it in my blog, so here it is!   I've been practicing recently, so... yeah, post comments and criticism.   Aanchir was here

In With The New

Took me a while to come up with a title I liked. Not totally sure how long this one will last. It's from a poem I wrote; not sure if I ever posted it on BZPower. I should check sometime soon.   Anyway, so the big news for me is that I am now staff on HEROsector01. I'm very honored to have this position; I hope my work on the site from here on out meets expectations.   Other big news is that a bunch of non-preliminary images of 2012 LEGO sets have started appearing. Sweet. I can't find any sites

Sig Fad No More!

Hi, everyone! Hate the "fake statistics" fad that's been spreading in people's sigs? Want to protect the good name of rap, or of factual statistics in general? Fret no more! This sig quote aims to solve all your troubles!   Want to add this to your sig? Then copy and paste the following code into your sig: [quote=Académie des Beaux-Arts, circa 1870]92% of artists have moved on to impressionism. Copy and paste this into your sig if you are part of the 8% that still creates real artwork.[/quo

On Clonism

Dear Reader,   The ethics of cloning is an issue that comes up often these days, and the cloning of BIONICLE sets is no exception. Whether you are an MOCist, an artist, or a stockholder, you have no doubt noticed a significant change in BIONICLE since the phasing out of clone sets. In this post, however, you will find a tedious degree of math and basic counting which serves to confirm that, while it may seem that the sets for 2006-2008 have been repetitive, many things have not changed. What I Want To See In Summer...

I may come up with more later, but here goes for now... A new Zamor launcher for the Toa. It would make sense if the new launcher has the same ammo as the Skyblasters, but they'd better not have called them Skyblasters if they planned to use them for the summer sets, which will NOT be sky-oriented. Colors as follows: Tahu in red or dark red (since he practically looked dark red in the movie, anyway), Gali in Mata blue, and Onua in-- what else?-- black. A Makuta in dark green, simply because I'd

Tarix Review Rebuttal

Well, I wrote this review rebuttal shortly after the Zesk Review Rebuttal revealed that this was now a possibility on BZPower. I find it's a wonderful medium in which to express one's opinions of sets. Sadly, although I e-mailed it to news@bzpower.com a few days after writing it, it was not published prior to the one-month cutoff date. Therefore, I have opted to post it here instead. I hope people of all opinions find they learn more about the set's flaws and surprises here.   This rebuttal is

Endless Night

It took a while to figure out, but I finally found a way to give my readers on BZPower access to a sample of Endless Night, the song featured in my SSC3 entry. Copy and paste the following URL into your address bar and it should open it up in Windows Media Player or a similar program. Sorry I can't provide a direct link, but the brackets in the URL prohibit me from doing that. I can't link to the source either, because it has forums. http://lebom.com/audio/The%20Lion%20King%20[Original%20Broad

A Tahu And A Job

...I has them.   First, the job. I'm interning at my local paper (which my family essentially owns). I've mostly been doing copy editing, and managed to catch at least two instances where LEGO was not in all caps as it should have been. But two days ago I also got to check out the new hospital being built in a neighboring county with the photographer, which was a neat experience. And yesterday I got to meet the editorial staff.   Now, for the Tahu, or rather the Tahu and Krika. I has them, and

Chuck Norris Jokes

This concerns all of the people who post "anti-Chuck Norris Facts" or just post the "truth" about Chuck Norris to spoil everyone's fun   News flash: No one takes Chuck Norris Jokes seriously.   They are not meant to tell the truth about an aged martial-arts film actor. Their only purpose is to parody the butt-kickin' attitude and aura of the characters Chuck Norris portrays, and in some cases to parody the egotism he is accused of having. No one truly thinks Chuck Norris is some omnipotent bei

Mazeka Review

Merry Christmas, BZPower! Or... a late Merry Christmas, anyway, if that's how you see it. Anyway, Lyichir was kind enough to give me two wonderful gifts: Mazeka and Makuta Icarax. A review of the latter should come soon. Sorry this will be pictureless, but I'm more comfortable with pictureless reviews-- with my sloppy photography skills, I couldn't really count on the pictures to explain anything by themselves, anyway, so hopefully the text would suffice regardless.   Presentation From the de

What Not To Ask A Set Designer

Do NOT ask why we have fewer new pieces than we used to, because we don't. Toa Mata had 21 new parts, Bohrok had 24 (and only if you count every type of Krana, which not even a full set of six Bohrok will get you), Bohrok Kal had... 6, Rahkshi had 27, Toa Metru had 22 (in the US), Vahki had 12 (again, in the US), Toa Hordika had 23 (in the US), Visorak had 15 (you know the drill), Piraka had 22, Toa Inika had 24, Barraki had 25, Toa Mahri had 22, Phantoka had 24, and Mistika had 22. Self-portrait

Unlike some authors whose faces are never seen, I have taken the liberty of showing my real appearance to the public, despite the dangers that such a decision may pose to my life or my organization. However, I am confidsent that anyone who has remained loyal to this blog is either a volunteer or an innocent, chronically depressed bystander. If you are a villain, I advise you to read no further, since the picture in the following link is not that of the elusive Aanchir, but rather that of a harml

Takanuva 2008 Review

Sorry, still pictureless. Forgot to get pics of the building process, and I'm sure you can find plenty of poses and comparison pics to smaller Toa, as well as pics from different angles, on Brickshelf. In fact, building-process pics should be easily accessible thanks to LEGO's highly convenient online building instructions. Anyway, on to the review!   Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.   The front of
