Self-portrait

Unlike some authors whose faces are never seen, I have taken the liberty of showing my real appearance to the public, despite the dangers that such a decision may pose to my life or my organization. However, I am confidsent that anyone who has remained loyal to this blog is either a volunteer or an innocent, chronically depressed bystander. If you are a villain, I advise you to read no further, since the picture in the following link is not that of the elusive Aanchir, but rather that of a harml

Brickfair, Etcetera.

Everyone loves the Takanuva. He is a terrific athlete.   Now back to business.   I attended Brickfair yesterday. I had lots of fun, but I'll probably wait to describe it in-depth until the official BZPower coverage does a good deal of that for me. But I'll tell you that I got to meet Omicron and Roa McToa, plus got to see ChocolateFrogs again. A worthwhile experience.   At the event my family managed to purchase the Tarakava set, and afterwards got to go to the Tyson's Corner LEGO store, wher

Art Updates - Flash Fire Contest and Other Drawings

I've been quite productive artistically in recent weeks. I mentioned in a previous entry a drawing based on Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. I haven't colored that yet, but I decided I might as well share the lineart online. Some people might be tired of ponies, but I find them a great source of inspiration, not to mention really fun to draw!   Additionally, I've posted my entry for BZPower's Flash Fire Character Design Contest. I've been working on coloring this drawing for a while, and finally finis

A Note On Contests

Dear Readers, It has come to my attention that I have recently recieved an award for my blog. Like mobs, warnings, or TV news broadcasts, contests often are an excuse to draw necessary attention to an unpleasant truth of life that most would be happier to avoid. Such is not the case here, however, for there is no reason that the contents of this blog are necessary or even safe for reading by the general public. I believe it is my duty to redirect you to blogs that might be found to be more jovi

Recent Thoughts

I've recently been compiling piece lists for Phantoka versions of Tahu's half of the team. While I can't MOC these or even perfectly envision them until the Mistika come out along with the parts I need, I've managed to make some crucial decisions based on such mundane statistics as number of new parts, number of parts in new colors, and overall number of parts.   For the record, Tahu and Gali so far have 54 parts inventoried, including a wicked sword for Tahu that doesn't call for a new part (b

What Fun!

Tomorrow's my birthday! Which means tomorrow's Lyichir's birthday as well!   I really am not doing much to celebrate, although I am going to Rome over spring break. But as of right now, I should be available tomorrow.   Just thought I'd keep you informed, since I'm such a new member.   -

Mata Nui's Personality-- A Rant

Ever since Mata Nui appeared before our eyes for the first time in 2008, there has been a lot of complaining regarding his appearance. You know, how in my mind/your mind/Bob's mind, he was this glimmering god in armor that seared your flesh off with its shininess, wielding some weapon that only a god would carry and wearing armor in white and gold, which are the only colors a greater being is allowed to wear. (I always personally thought white and brown, maybe with gold-- after about 2007 this c

Concerning The Incredibly Deadly Viper

This poem is an excerpt from my commonplace book:   Despite its Very Fearsome Denotation (that means "name") its Venom doesn't Feel quite as Deadly as they claim. In fact, instead of frightful, why, the Viper's Found Delightful, but it's feared by all the experts, what a shame.   About the Viper's Friendly Disposition, this I say: He's Visitable, Fun, and quite Distracting, in a way, and at the time Vital For Dreaming, his eyes stop their jewellike gleaming as he curls up at your feet

To All Of Those Artists Out There

I need some advice. I have recently made another attempt at making a permanent Human-styled Bionicle topic. However, it is not doing so well, since it is already on the second page and I, being the last poster, can not bring it back to the first page when I upload new art. My question is how do you make a permanent artwork topic? Lady Kopaka, Brave Dragon, and Nikira each have compiled their artwork in topics that do amazingly welll at staying alive, as have many other members. If you have a per

Phantoka? Why Yes!

Just got back from a Drama field trip to see Dracula at VCU.   Awesomeness.   And now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some Phantoka to be drawing. See you next time.   *credits roll and the theme to "Bill Nye the Science Guy starts playing*   All right, seriously. This will be the first time I've ever drawn a Makuta, and I need ideas. I want them to look humanoid, given their resemblances to Matoran, but at the same time distinctly "not human," even demonic. They will be drawn in my new style

Looks Like A 5-year-old's Moc

Why do people seem to think that it's EVER OK to say this or something remotely similar? I don't care if it's about an official BIONICLE product or an MOC-- to say this is to insult anyone who worked on this (unless, of course, they are less than five years old, in which case it means you're impressed).   Of course, it's worthy of note that people tend to say this of either official sets, or MOCs that LEGO has showcased somewhere other than BZPower. Why? Obviously, because if a person doesn't p

Certavus

Still need to get a more reasonable set of categories for my blog. How long ago was it that these ones made sense? If ever?   Anyway, in regard to the title...   Gallery   Voting has begun! You can find my Certavus as Entry 2 in Poll 6!   As always, I encourage people who choose to vote in the contest to make the best decisions they can-- if you think another entry in my or another poll is the best, by all means vote based on your own choice. Of course I wish my own entry good luck, but I

Google Is Awesome

Just was doing something I do for the BS01 Wiki on occasion: randomly googling names from the "Other LEGO Employees" page in hopes of finding more information.   I found something useless to the wiki, but pretty darn spiffy. Observe   Of course, not much to be found regarding everyone's favorite lead set designer, but nevertheless this was a pretty intriguing find.

I dunno, it seems that working for V.F.D. is a bit of a gloomy pasttime. This blog is hereby dedicated to all the unicorns and fuzzy animals that everyone loves.   With fun and peanuts, Aanchir: Rachira of FUN!

Makuta Regions Poll

A new initiative in the BS01 forum has been established to decide which regions were governed by Makuta Antroz, Vamprah, and Tridax. Here's my take on the issue. Read my opinions if you like (I tried to keep them short ), then cast your vote!

Klakk Review

Again, a pictureless review. But hopefully there won't be enough to say about it that it needs pics. I've seen a couple decent reviews of this, but I will try to surpass them in adequately explaining this enigmatic set.   Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.   For those familiar with Brickmaster magazine, you probably know that the set arrives in a corrugated cardboard box. However, recently (I forget h

Late Brickfair Entry

Lehvak Lah was there.   Lehvak Lah had the Kraata plushie.   I was there.   I didn't get to see/hug/steal the Kraata plushie.   Other than that, everything was pretty cool. But no plushie makes Aanchir sad. :[

About My Turtwig

Heh. A funny story...   When I got my first Pokemon on Diamond (shortly after the game came out), I chose the Grass element starter, Turtwig, since I love Ground element (Swampert and Torterra FTW!) and had never had a Grass element starter. Since it was a grass type, I gave it a suitable nickname, as I have with all my starters since Sapphire version. I named him Forrest.   Later, I got around to checking his stats, so I could see about drawing him (I always design personalities for my party

Toa Mata Nui Revealed!

From the new PICTURE REVIEW IN THE SETS FORUM (No link! Quick, everyone, make haste!), the titan-sized Mata Nui met all of my expectations. Overall decent color scheme (except the gold, which seems from pics to irredeemably clash with everything else), BEAUTIFUL build (except the shoulders, which would have been questionable on Takanuva and are really pathetic here), and an ingenious piston style.   But as I predicted, the gold is possibly the set's biggest flaw. I wish so dearly that the Ignik

On The Aqua Blaster Blade

When I first began to see the entries for the Aqua Blaster Blade contest, I was very concerned. Many were cluttered, lacking stylistic consistency between their parts. Many used too many non-BIONICLE components such as Technic beams, rendering them awkward as Toa tools. Many were enormous and unwieldy, which makes it perfectly clear that at least half of the entrants must have seen this as a second chance after losing the Xian Weapons contest, completely ignoring the purpose of the contest to gi

Too Bad.

It appears I won't be entering this BBC contest either. Ever since Dad cleaned the basement (that's where we keep all of our LEGO stuff), the box where we keep Bionicle armor has been missing. Of course, I have plenty in my room, but not enough to make the MOC I was intending to make, a Toa Metru Kaita. I've made one before that was pretty good, so I was confident in my ability to make another, but as it is, it seems very unlikely that it will be ready for this contest.   This is the third offi
