Baaack

Yay, Internet at new place after going without for a month. I AM CONNECTED!   I mean, I was always lurking either on my work computer or my phone...   But yeah, I have all sorts of things to update. Finished NaNo this year despite a late start. Went to BrickUniverse Dallas and took pictures. Got super stressed at work and it's only getting worse... yeah.   But what about all the projects that were left in limbo that you were supposed to be working on?   Forget about that now, I have a bunch of s

In Dallas

Back in Dallas. Packed in 45 pounds of Lego in my suitcase, pretty sure some of it will be salvageable when I go to set it up tomorrow. Been interesting to be back, I guess. The 635 freeway was a total mess of construction the last time I was here, but now there's a fabulous expressway there. (Although Dallas traffic is as bad as Portlands, at least they do have a lot of infrastructure... Portland's roads are not expanding and only becoming more crowded.)   Anyway, I started that Hero Factory /

Hero Factory Story Idea

Okay, I’ll lead up with this idea is not entirely original, but somehow I got it out of the end of a dream I had this morning and although the rest of the dream was kinda something else entirely, I remember this specific idea and thought it might be cool to expand on and now I’m working out the story in my head and all that stuff...   Aaaaanyway.   The basic premise: The main Hero characters are somehow defeated and only their cores remain. Throw in some cross-dimensional rifts and stuff. They e

Moved

I've moved again.   So that means no Internet.*   For a month.   Don't expect much from me.     *Well except on my phone or at work, but I tend to just browse during those times instead of posting content.

I Have Two Places!

Okay, I'm renting, but I currently can claim residence in two different locations! That means I'm wealthy, right? Only rich people can own two places at once!   ... for the next 11 days, anyway.   I'm in the process of moving again, but this time my rents are overlapping by a few days. On one hand, that just means more money leaking away, but this will mean I can gradually move, instead of doing it all in one mad rush. So multiple mad rushes. Yay.   But then I enter the period of being new to a

SHIP It, SHIP It Good

SHIP it up, you know you should. So SHIP it!   This is my third year "competing" in SHIPtember, where you build a SHIP (Seriously Huge Investment in Parts Spaceship) which has to be over 100 studs long. So I made not one, not two, but THREE of them. (Sure, they barely reach the limit, are generally narrow, and won't win any competition... but hey they're complete, as far as I'm concerned, so that's a plus.)     The Jade Spear: Basically an attempt to build a ship around the Ninjago spinner. It'

Rose City Comic Con

So I went to my first Comic Con yesterday. I found it to be a combination of something I disliked greatly (crowds) and something I’m only mildly interested in (comics.) I would probably not go again on my own, as it was expensive and I would rather attend a Lego convention, but it would be fun to go with a friend or something. (I was planning to attend with some people, but they all dropped out for various reasons and I ended up going alone.) It was an okay event, but not quite worth the money a

Color Names

You see, it's not Teal or Dark Turquoise, or even Bright Bluish Green.   IT'S CALLED TARAKAVA GREEN.   Any argument to the contrary is wrong.   (I will also accept Kongu Blue.)

SDCC Exclusives

The funny thing is I didn't go to the event at all! In fact, the entire time I was in my office at work because, y'know, weekend shift and all.     So these are the two SDCC Exclusives I was able to get ahold of. Sam Wilson Captain America was actually a win from Lego's Twitter raffle, which was very cool! (Like yeah, I tried reporting more on that for a reason.) I wasn't the only winner... I think they gave out 10 each of the figs and the masks over Twitter, but still a little mind boggling th

Animorphs Movie?

I thought it was just hype (and some extremely wishful thinking on some fan's part) but apparently it's a real thing that might happen. I'm trying to not let myself get excited, because I don't know how well they could pull it off with a single movie since the series was quite extensive... but all the same it's something to look forward to. (And hey, suddenly my Lego models seem a little more relevant.)

Work Related Injuries

I may or may not have passed out at work today.   At one moment, I'm standing up and then start laughing at a hilarious joke a coworker said. The next moment I'm on the floor. I honestly don't know what happened.   If its fatal, at least I could say I died as I lived... laughing hard at an offensive joke.   Also finished my collection of series 14 figs, got some Star Wars buildable figures, bought a frickin' car... the usual.

Skull Scorpio Draft?

Proposed idea for BrickCon?   Skull Scorpio doesn't have the most intriguing build, but he has some nice pieces, plus the infected mask of stone. So what if we drafted that set. Everybody keeps the mask(s?) but we split out the other pieces? (I mean, I think he has the most parts of the medium sized Skull Villians.) Thoughts?   Also, I apparently generated more dicussion with my selection of the thumbnail pict than the rest of my review... so yay? I dunno if that is good or bad.

October Double VIP Points

Every year, Lego has a promotion in October for double VIP points on purchases from the Lego Store and online and such. This year is no different... except instead of lasting for the full month, it's only lasting the first FOUR days.   So I guess they felt they were too generous with their promotion earlier, so they had to reaaaaaally cut down the timeframe for it. (I guess losing 10% to crazy AFOLs who spend like crazy all month must've hurt their sales too much?) Plus, now it doesn't coinside

System Bionicle 2015 Mask Connection Method

I just came across a new method for connection Bionicle 2015 masks to 2x2 round bricks.     The new style of Bionicle masks that came out this year had an odd connection that allowed for them to be flipped off the head as part of an action feature, but this made their connection point rather loose. The heads were less than ideal to squeeze them on, and while you could fit them on technic axle or rod holes, they were often weak or loose.   This new method uses a 2x2 round bricls, which slides in

Gali Masters Mosaic: Final

This past weekend at Bricks Cascade, the collaborative Gali Masters Mosaic finally came together. (A little last minute too, with the ones being sent in arriving just in the nick of time and another one requiring some last minute updates.) I haven't got pictures for everything else yet, but time to present this mosaic in its full glory!     And it wouldn't be a BZPower mosaic without a group pict of all the builders. (Yes, ALL of them, even the ones that weren't physically there.)     From lef

I Still Don't Like Ants

But Ant-Man was a good movie.   Some great action, some decent characters. Pacing felt a little off near the middle, but the finale was solid. But it played it high with the humor, which I really appreciate. A lot of LOL moments, especially with his "crew". But quite a few deaths in this one too, and although a lot weren't a huge focus, there were a few that were emotional. Still, would see again. Probably will see again.   Still, some of the swarm scenes with the ants creeped me out. I'm not a

Review: Flash Speeder

The other day I ordered the 75091 Flash Speeder Star Wars set. I was planning to pick it up anyway, but I decided to wait until the Star Wars collectible poster promo, so I got that too. The set was actually pretty delightful, and I'm glad I made the purchase. Although, honestly, I don't remember this vehicle from the movie very much, but it's green, so yay!     First off, the figs. I may or may not have wanted this set primarily for the medium nougat not-super-frowny head of the Naboo Security

Today is Just Too Hot

I'll just preface this in saying that I have no heat tolerance.   So, I spent all of last summer in an apartment with no Air Conditioning and it was terrible. I decided to get ahead of the curve and got an (expensive) portable AC unit a few months ago. But its loud and is constantly filling up with water that needs to be changed every 40 minutes when its on, but as needy as it was, it did provide cool air for a bit.   But it's been in the upper 90s here this week, and then the bloody interior fa

Lego Slingshot

I finally managed to track down some Collectible Minifigures: Simpsons Series Two, and got the only one that I really wanted: Bartman. Even then I don't care much for the fig itself, since I have a generally negative view of the Simpson figs. However, he does come with a slingshot accessory, which is the first time Lego had produced one. (Although they've been printed on torsos before, my self fig torso has one printed on it.) (I'm also annoyed that, while the Lego Hobbit game gave Ori the Dwarf

I Saw Ultron

He was actually a far more interesting character than I thought the trailers made him out to be.   The movie was good overall. A lot of cameo or guest appearances. Except for one that I was hoping for...         But, of course, the most critical part of the movie must come under some scrutiny, and that is... how well do the Lego sets fit in with it? Spoilers beware:         Anyway, good movie, glad I saw it. Based on first impressions, not necessarily my favorite Marvel movie (that might go to W

Let the Hunt Begin!

After reading about the contest this morning, I took some time on my lunch break to wander around downtown Portland and look for some interesting faces in thing. And I dusted off my old twitter account... which I haven't used for three years. (I mean, I could use FB but I'm a little unsure of how to get it tagged in, and I'm not on instagram, so Twitter it is!)   I posted a couple of shots, including an interesting angle from a boat, a ladder, some markings on a tree, an interesting bit of broke

Derpy Smaug

He doesn't know he's the most powerful firedrake in the north.   Also, that Smaug set is totally worth the $70 I spent on it. Great figs, a good amount of pieces for that price (some good ones at it) and the dragon itself is quite amazing, especially the wings. Gosh, could you imagine if we have to pay $130 for it, that would be a total rip.

Review: Naida's Epic Adventure Ship

Click for Review TL/DR, it's a great set, lots of rare pieces, go buy it now.   NOW!   Unless you already have it. I mean, you could always buy a second one, but let's not go crazy here.

Made Bank at Cascade

I actually did very well at Cascade this year, probably even better than my first year there where I won a bunch of stuff. This time I've won larger stuff!! And now I'm going to brag and provide a list.   Won the large Friends shopping mall as a giveaway. Got two free mixels in as Mixels Match game (take two Mixels and build a non-Mixel thing... but use all the pieces.) Got the technic snowmobile in a Technic Game (where you build a non-technic thing, or at least not one that's on the box. I was
