Pending Ninjago Entry

I've been working on a Ninjago flash game for the last... two weeks. (Idea's been in my head since they announced the contest.) But I've still got some issues to tweak out, which I hope to get up in time for the contest's deadline... which is tonight. >.< So yeah, if I don't get it entered I will be a little upset.   Might also grab some artwork from the game that I made and enter it in as, y'know, art. I don't think that's cheating? (I mean, it's not like it's actually going to win, but

I Made a Mosaic!

Topic Here   Reiterating what I said there: it's not the best mosaic, but I made it relatively quickly with what I had on hand. (And I've officially used the last of my baseplates. I mean, seriously, I sent 4 of them to BrickFair and then made the lenticular cheese slope mosaic, I was lucky I had a spare to begin with.)   It's going to be at BrickCon. Not as exciting as previous Bionicle group mosaics we've put up, but nobody really seemed interested in collaborative projects this year, so I've

Went For Broke With My VIP Card

Yeah, this happened.   I got this card when the VIP program initially began a while back. So in some ways, the design is pretty vintage, and it's kinda cool to have been a part of something from the beginning that's generally gotten better over the years. (Or maybe it was always the same but now I just have a bigger budget to utilize it with.) But recently (AKA past year) I've been noticing that the card wasn't aging well. The barcode on the back is starting to fade... which is to be expected be

Click For Topic Lookie, I posted another MOC.   I think I've been hinting at this one for a long time here. So that means two, maybe three people won't be surprised by this?

Recent Things I've Paid For

Rent Utilities Those two don't count.   Onto the real list: Universal Studios Two Day pass. See my entry on Florida trip. But man that park was expensive! Multiple BrickLink Orders... I should probably stop Chima Phoenix Temple. Got the classic space guy free set out of it too. Still haven't had the chance to build it, sadly. Captain America II Blu Ray. First real purchase of a Marvel movie, but I just really liked the action in this one. Randall Munroe's "What If" book. I suppose it's ki

Bionicle House

Bionicle House 01 by Xccj, on Flickr   A while back, somebody was complaining about the Bionicle system's limitations, and said something to the effect of "You can't build a house with it." To me, that meant, "Challenge Accepted!"   This is a fairly basic design made primarily using limb elements, with the interior supported with technic beams and such. I ran out of Rahkshi legs in dark bley, so I used some in classic dark gray as a stand in. I can't really tell the difference in person, but it

SHIPtember 2014 WIP: Radioactive Pitchfork

I guess at this point, it's less of a WIP and more of a "I'm pretty much finished with it but I might tweak a few things before the final photo shoot."   And black light.   Radioactive Pitchfork - WIP Black Light by Xccj, on Flickr   Comments welcome. Like I said, I might still tweak a few things, like antenna placement and such.   On a somewhat related note, did you know using black light will get you disqualified in BBC Contests? Guess just part of the rules I never considered until now.   W

Florida Trip

Last weekend I went on a trip. Maybe not a vacation cause it was not exactly relaxing. But it was super fun. I got to hang out with two of my friends from my internship 1.5 years ago that I haven't seen since. It's kind of a big deal for me since I don't really have any friends locally that I can hang out with. Now I'm tempted to fly out and meet them more... too bad I won't be able to get time off work to do so. (Funny, it was a pretty instantaneous shift from having time but no money to having

Florida Bound

Yay a summer vacation! And people at work are only mildly annoyed that I'm taking time off!   So this weekend I'm going to be flying to Florida to meet up with some of my friends from my Southwest Internship. It's going to be a long flight; basically if you at a map of the continental US, I'm in the upper left hand corner and I'm headed to the lower right hand corner.   When I had the chance to get free flights, I visited a lot of the country, but never made it to Florida. Based on what I know o

Exo Suit Review

I wanted to review the Exo Suit from Lego Ideas for a while, especially after the hassle it took for me to get it. But alas, Black Six beat me to the punch and posted his review. (And to be fair, I didn't really vocalize my desire to review this, cause I've been busy with other stuff.) So instead this will get the less-than-stellar treatment of a blog review! Yay!   To start off, I should probably give my history on this model, or rather lack thereof. I was not familiar with Peter's Exo Suit bef

Cosplay Question!

I'm contemplating doing a President Business outfit for BrickCon, but I don't quite know what to do for headgear. The evil helmet is a little too over the top, but the brick-shaped hair? Not going to happen with my short hair, sorry. But I have an idea to make it into a kind of hat. But where would I find a hat that I could easily glue stuff to? Also preferably one that won't turn into an oven cause that convention center doesn't stay cool when packed full of people. I've tried looking at

Korra Season Three Finale

Spoiler: It was good. I was kinda annoyed cause I saw other blog entries pop up while I was at work and I couldn't watch this until the afternoon... but I guess that's what you get for being a responsible adult, can't watch cartoons whenever.

Spikels Mixels Review

Click Here For Review Probably not the first review of the new Spikels, but gosh it's gotta be one of the first. (Not that it really matters, I know most people barely read the reviews anyway.) Still, I am happier with these three than a lot of the others! Lots of character here!

Tired All The Time

I can't say my life is bad, since I've managed to secure a bunch of the essentials: a college education, a regular job that actually pays for something that I'm fairly good at doing (but don't ask me to explain it), an apartment that is mildly tolerable even without air conditioning, and enough money that I can buy Lego without an overbearing sense of budgetary guilt.   But as of late, it's seemed very... basic. Work has been interesting, but I'm usually quite burned out by the end of the day, a

Recommend Me a Book

So I have a cross continental fight at the end of the month, for like 9 plus hours both ways. It’ll be a red eye on the way out, so hopefully I can try to get some sleep, but it’s going to be middle of the day on the way back. Just my experience two years ago with airplane rides was that my electronic devices won’t hold a charge long enough to provide ample entertainment over the full course of the trip. As such, I need an old fashion, non electronic form of media. Y’know, like a book. But I hav

GotG

Man, it was more of an adventure getting to this movie than I'd like to admit but will love to brag about. Between timing, troubleshooting at work, Max trains not running, and a distance of about 0.5 miles from the station to the theater, I only just got in as they finish the credits at the beginning. But man, was it worth it. Great movie, and I have just one thing to say about it! (But beware, may contain spoilers.)   *ahem*   I AM GROOT.   That is all.   (Gosh now I need to buy The Milano Spac

Ordering a Rare Color

Isn't it great to spend a hefty amount (in two different orders) on Bricklink to get some useful pieces in a rare color... only to finally receive the packages and realize that it's actually a different color.   See, I saw that they had 2x2 dishes, ribbed tubing, and some clickits elements in trans medium blue, the kind that glows under a black light. The tubing and dishes turned out to be in light blue. (Well, the dishes, anyway. The tubing appears to be some unique color between trans medium a

Buy from Lego Online Now!

Except in the span of me starting to write that front page article and posting it, shop.lego.com decided to just crash.   It happened in the middle of verifying my order too! So I don't know if I'm getting the Exo-Suit or not.   It seems that the hype for the new sets (likely the rumored-quite-a-bit-to-be-a-limited-release Exo-Suit) may have crashed the site? They posted an unusual error report on the shopping cart page, saying that we can't use express shipping or VIP points and that they'll ad

Posted My Lenticular Mt St Helens Mosaic

Lookie here, a topic in SBC!   So I guess the phrase "lenticular" is the one to use, since "cheese slope mosaic," besides being a mouthful, can also refer to some other styles of mosaic-ing.   I do need to take some better pictures, but my issue is A: bad lighting in my apartment and B: no backdrop large enough to fit the full mosaic. I also need to get a stand for it, and maybe somehow reinforce the back because it's rather flimsy, especially compared to classic brick mosaics, which hold up rem

Cheese Mosaic Update

Okay, so posting this week means even less likely for somebody to read it with all the traffic... but like that's not a huge change from 1 to 0 on the grand scale of things, so I'll ramble along anyway.   I got my mosaic completed... mostly. I was fretting over if I would have enough elements in white, light gray, black, blue, dark tan... and then the color I ended up coming up short on was dark gray. >.< I'm only a few short, so I'm thinking of replacing te empty bits with dark brown, whi

Review: Batman: The Joker Steam Roller

Let's look at set 76013: Batman: The Joker Steam Roller. I was able to snag this set at 20% off at the Lego Store. They had a sale on a bunch of the winter DC sets, basically all the ones that were kinda lackluster. I've had my eye on this one for a while, but it never appealed to me enough to go out and get it. But this sale made it worthwhile, so I spent the money. But now how does it add up?   I don't normally mention the boxes; I do in the official reviews just to cover everything but don't

Review: Arctic Helicrane

And now I continue on with my non-official front page reviews that take much less time to make...   Some people were excited to see the return of Arctic sets this year. Arctic was one of the last system themes I got really excited about back in 2000, right before I got consumed by Bionicle for the next 7 years. The explorers and parkas and snowmobiles and polar bears... it was a great theme. I only ever got two sets from it, but the mobile outpost one was definately a highlight. With that said,

Mosaic 50% Completed

Some things I've learned for working on this cheese slope mosaic so far: Cheese slopes are expensive for their size. Especially ones in rare colors that I just HAVE to have in bulk. LEGO Pick-a-Brick walls have never had any opaque colored cheese slopes besides the olive green ones. When a BrickLink store says there's probably going to be a delay, that should be a red flag. Took over three weeks to get the order (even if it was kinda large) but can't really complain cause he posted a warnin

Review: Attack on Isengard

Read for another mini review? Today I look at this cool set that I picked up the other day which is clearly from Lord of the Rings. I believe it is 76020: Attack on Isengard.     So this set is suppose to represent the scenes from the second LotR movie The Two Towers where Isengard is attacked. You get some enemies defending their mining equipment, as well as an Ent with a Hobbit companion. There's a lot to like here, but there are also a ton of discrepancies, so many that it makes you wond
