The Whole "wet Mane Ponies" Thing

Soooo... apparently some weird rule is now in place against wet mane pony pictures. Now, I can put up with this just as well as I put up with other BZP rules that inconvenience me. Better, in fact, because it doesn't really affect me whether other people post such pics or not.

But I do have to say I'm genuinely confused. Does people making joking comments about a non-human cartoon character being "sexy" really drift that close to breaking BZPower rules? If a lot of people posted comments about a LEGO minifigure being "sexy", would pictures of that minifigure be forbidden?

I think the upcoming Samurai fig in the Ninjago theme is pretty sexy, as far as minifigures are concerned. I don't see how that breaks rules any more than posting G-rated art of Roodaka meant to look somewhat sexy, or for that matter posting a photograph of a MOC of a female figure in a somewhat alluring but non-erotic pose. As long as people aren't whistling or making catcalls in the comments, then saying a character looks sexy, especially jokingly, doesn't really seem to imply anything non-G-rated in this day and age.

I'm not trying to be passive-aggressive or to complain, but it seems a bit misguided on the part of the blog staff to make rules like this on a whim. There are already enough people who don't trust BZPower staff, and while I'm not one of them, I can still recognize a decision that doesn't seem to accomplish anything besides hurting one's reputation.

Ahh. I dunno. The fact of the matter is the entire point of giving these MLP characters "wet manes" IS only to make them appear ... "sexy?". They aren't posted for any other purpose except to give these characters a suggestive appeal. (which as an MLP fan I'm against but whatever) Sure it's completely idiotic and wouldn't really be considered against the rules, but the image does portray that in a subtle way. So like anything else and if continued, these images could get out of hand.

Which makes you wonder why my entry, which parodied the trend in an unsexy way, was the only one that got locked. ;)

Personally, I think the idea that there's anything suggestive about a cartoon pony batting her eyelashes with a wet mane is ludicrous. Someone could make it inappropriate, I'm sure, but from what I can tell, nobody has been doing that here. Any comments about sexiness have usually been in jest, and nobody's been making any really inappropriate comments.

I've seen art and MOC topics shut down because people were making rude or inappropriate comments about their sexiness (or what they perceived as sexiness, anyway). But I don't see any way this comes close to that sort of frowned-upon behavior.

So if I call someone a moron in obvious jest it's as if I'm really calling someone a moron.Oh BZPower.

I'm surprised that word's not filtered, several lesser insults are. o_O Not that moron is an extremely offensive insult.

My point isn't that if people were ogling and fawning over the ponies in jest it wouldn't be inappropriate. My argument is that they simply aren't doing that. The closest comments I've seen have been people joking about how they "look sexy", and frankly, I don't see how that's inappropriate when talking about a plainly G-rated image of a non-erotic cartoon character.

When the entire point of the "wet mane" images is to instill a sense of seduction, I believe it's a good idea to stay away from talking about them. Because that's just gross no matter how you put it.

It really doesn't matter whether you don't see them that way or even want to make fun of the fact that people do. Their purpose is still inappropriate.

And we assume that that's the entire purpose... because? Characters appeared with wet manes in the TV show. Some people thought it was sexy (from a fictional, in-universe perspective) and made it a meme. If some random deviants exist who think it's sexy from an out-of-universe perspective, then that's their problem, but the same deal exists with any fandom. There will be some folks who can't tread the line between fiction and reality.

Pretty much the main component of Roodaka's portrayal in Web of Shadows was to "instill a sense of seduction". But people can be and have been plenty mature about Roodaka fanart as long as it's not shamelessly erotic, with disgustingly-exaggerated proportions or scandalous poses.

The images themselves strike me as harmless. It's the discussion that can cause trouble if the people discussing the images aren't mature and moral about it. But that's not what I saw in the blog entries I went to. Instead, I saw comments no more inappropriate than you'd see for any shapely female BIONICLE drawing or MOC.

This. They do not belong on BZPower, and no, it's not a new rule, it's the same "nothing inappropriate, suggestive, or pornish". The pictures are not appropriate for BZPower, and that's the word from the Empress.

Okie-dokes then. I never argued that it was a new rule, I just disagree about it being inappropriate. I still feel the inappropriateness of the whole thing is being exaggerated, but believe me when I say I respect the value you have on keeping BZPower a safe community.
