I've just finished registering all the MOCs for BrickFair that people have sent me, and just in time too as MOCs submitted after today (ie in the next 20 minutes of typing this) won't have their MOC cards printed out and I'd have had to do that myself.

 

And what dawned on me was how cool our fanbase is that we have art to go along with our MOCs. Aside from Greg Hyland's art here and there, I can't think of another theme displayed at conventions that have fan-made art accompanying their MOCs, aside from the MOCs themselves.

 

And that is something for all you artists to pat yourselves on the back for.

That's one nice thing about BrickFair; they have the most awesome MOC cards out of all the conventions I've attended.

I think it's a darn shame that the creative nature of the LEGO hobby seems to discourage other forms of creative expression for a lot of fans. And even in the BIONICLE community, our creative expression isn't all that diverse. I don't think I've ever heard any fan-created BIONICLE music, which is sharply in contrast with the wealth of amazing fan-created music in the brony community. You'd think that with all the praise you hear for BIONICLE's music within the community, some musically-talented people would be channeling that as inspiration for their own BIONICLE-related work. But no.

 

All in all, I love conventions like Brickfair, but after going to my first brony convention this spring, I can't help but feel there's a lot we COULD be doing that we're missing out on. At least BZPower will continue to show this year that we know how to rock out, even if the music our community creates isn't BIONICLE-inspired.
