BIONICLE is hijacked

That's pretty much what has been happening lately. Fans are just suggesting loose ends to Greg, and he usually seems to just say yes. Now I understand Greg is a busy guy, but too much fan influence just takes thrill away from the story. It's as if Greg is just too lazy to deal with BIONICLE right now, when he was the writer of it for eight years.

Greg has lazily pandered to the portion of the fanbase that wanted to CANONIZE ALL THEIR THINGS for years. I'm not quite sure why you're mentioning this now; has there been a particularly egregious case lately?

Greg being too busy to devote a lot of thought to a story that has ended and being "lazy" are significantly different things. He has a job with Lego writing for the catalogs, the magazines, and the books and comics for various other themes. Canonizing trivial suggestions by fans is a lot easier than agonizing over whether they could adversely affect a story that has essentially been finished for four and a half years, and I can't really fault him for it. Yes, a better decision would probably be to stop taking fan suggestions altogether, but I don't see how it makes that much of a difference in the long run.

Yeah, this isn't anything new. If anything it just describes the last two or so years of the story. "Hey, I noticed this inconsistency so would you like to use my headcanon?" "Sure, I guess."

When the writers start liberally applying the headcanon of the fans, that's usually when the plot begins to nosedive. Headcanons are often terrible anyway.

There are few headcanons that I support, of which Trans Tamaru is the only one I can name off the top of my head.

Greg's really not that good of a writer. I don't like seeing him get hate for it because he's genuinely trying his level best, but the reality is that you need a story team. Nobody can do it by themselves, especially when you're spending lots of time going out of your way to please the fans. If anything, you get in more trouble by doing that than by staying aloof.

I wouldn't say he's not a good writer. After all, with the support of a story team, he did some amazing work for the books and comics. And he's done great work with some other subsequent LEGO books. You don't have to be able to manage a huge and expansive franchise just to write a good story.

And writing as a part of a team is a skill no less valuable than managing an entire story on your own. Most TV writers work as part of a team, but it would be very unfair to them to say that they're "not good writers".

Just trying to make a point. Maybe it's that I haven't been paying much attention to the fanbase since 2011, but it seems to me almost everyone is getting their suggestions canonized lately.

I see where you get that. Greg is just preoccupied with more urgent work he has at the moment.

Greg is not a bad writer, but I think a story team would be of help to him. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get one, since BIONICLE is, as far as we know, over.
