MICHAEL PHELPS! MICHAEL PHELPS! MICHAEL PHELPS!

:kaukau: I've been writing in my journal as I've been watching the Olympics. Now as a personal rule, I keep even the most mundane entries of my journal a complete secret, but I figured that I'd share this epic poetry that I wrote on more than one occasion throughout its pages:

Michael Phelps! Michael Phelps! Michael Phelps! MICHAEL PHELPS! MICHAEL PHELPS! MICHAEL PHELPS!

And also this:

MICHAEL PHELPS!

So you know what's been on my mind lately. I remember writing this entry on August 4, 2012 that an era had ended, because as best as I knew, Michael Phelps had finished his last Olympics. I consider myself very blessed to be alive and witnessing him swimming in yet another. He hasn't disappointed thus far, with three gold medals and counting. Of the new record that he's broken, he has tied Larisa Latynina's record for having the most individual medals, and he's become the oldest swimmer to ever win a gold medal in an individual event. Also, I look forward to seeing a colossal showdown between Phelps and Lockde in tomorrow's 200m Medley. Finally, I've put on a little weight, and I've been watching videos of Michael Phelps to inspire me to get back into shape.

In other news, the women's gymnastics team has dominated. As good as that makes me feel, it will take quite a few Olympics of this in a row before the United States builds up a legacy and a history of dominance as rich as the Soviet Union's, whose teams won eight Olympic medals in a row from 1952 to 1980. That's pretty impressive, and I doubt that I will ever see U.S.A. catch up with that sort of history anytime before the inevitable nuclear apocalypse wipes out humanity. That having been said, America is about to break the record for the most individual all-around gold medals in a row, courtesy of Simone Biles. I really love this team, the Final Five, although they do take the suspense out of the sport.

Speaking of suspense, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross nearly lost to Switzerland today. That they even won a set is pretty impressive, and kudos to them. If anyone were to give Kerri and April a run for their money, I wanted it to be the Swiss.

KRAGGH! :D Where have you been?

I confess I don't pay attention to these particular Olympic sports (I'm an archery man myself), but Phelps does continue to be impressive. I am confused, though. Phelps currently has 21 medals, right? And Latynina has 18, right? So how are they tied?

Vorahk1Panrahk2notice how he said individual [event] medals, not total medals, the latter of which Phelps definitely owns the undisputed record for.
