Avatar Sequels (And not the Airbender Kind)

Toa Smoke Monster

Do you remember the movie Avatar that came out back in 2009? The movie made by James Cameron that had the majority of its cast playing giant blue aliens named Na'vi on a moon named Pandora? Have you been wanting a sequel to said movie?

Well you're in luck then, as there are four sequels to this movie in development right now. Yes, you read that right. FOUR SEQUELS! :o

James Cameron, who made the first movie, has spend the last couple of years writing the scrips for these four movies, with the fifth movie's scrip being completed just recently. They are all going to be equally developed at the same time, with Avatar 2 being released next year.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. With the first Avatar being the highest grossing film of all time as of this entry, a sequel to it was inevitably going to be made. But four of them seems kind of excessive IMO.

I think that we should've only made two at the most back to back, similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean and Matrix sequels. That way, if the films didn't do as well at the box office as the first, then they wouldn't waste money making more of them.

What do you guys think of this many Avatar sequels heading our way over the next few years?

I've known of the development of many sequels since shortly after the Avatar movie came out. You are a bit late here dude. But the news of them coming out near each other is, well, newsworthy. Thanks for the info!

And at least it is shorter then the original plan of six more movies.

I heard that Avatar two, three, and four were being made, but I didn't know about the fifth one until today. Which is why I made an entry about it. Regardless, glad I gave out some new info. :P

I can't see them being anywhere near as successful as the first one... which everyone forgot about very quickly. Won't be surprised if the second one doesn't do anywhere near as well as expected, thus stopping the rest from happening.

Avatar made its money because 3D was new and exciting. They won't be able to pull the same trick twice. I suppose they could they do a 180 with the sequels and focus on crafting a compelling narrative and interesting characters, but they still won't come even close to matching the success of the first movie

Does anyone actually remember anything about Avatar?  It has no memorable plot nor memorable quotes.  It exists merely for the sake of looking pretty and showing off what was then cutting-edge visual effects.  I know of no one who has ever watched it on their own time outside of a theatre setting.

8th grade science class, actually. It killed a class period or three for us, but I don't remember any of us actually feeling grateful enough towards the poor movie to actually watch it.
