Update (now there's a meaningful title...)

The current state of things makes it really hard to tell interesting stories because let's face it, most time is spent at home. :/

Honestly the only positive thing is that I 'won' the time usually spent commuting, which does add up to 10h during the week, but that's about it. Doing everything in one place is hard, however. In fact, it's so hard that I had to improve my planning strategies and install two boards in my room where I track my tasks, both for home things and for university. At least moving colourful sticky notes around when I'm done with a task is an adequate motivation, or so it seems.

Speaking of studying, the longer this goes on, the more I realize that I really don't like distance learning, and it's so much harder to motivate myself to do just about anything. Computer Science is cool though, so I'm trying my best. Currently I am 'sort of' teaching myself Java to write some code to fill a database with random content. Coming up with my own random generator for names was more fun than it probably should have been (because this way I spent more time on it than I presumably should have) - but hey, I'd rather spend some more time and not just end up with random strings like "asfklaer" for names.

To bring this entry to a conclusion, I'm kinda coping, but not really enjoying it. My hopes for 2021 are non-existent, but at least I can't be disappointed that way. Or maybe I can. We will see.

Yeah, I've been growing a little tired of distance learning myself. Not so much from a lack of motivation, but I really miss being immersed in the environment on an actual campus. Now, even on the one day a week I'm there, it's pretty dead.

Definitely harder to get the motivation for things when everything seems less important by not being in your face as much.

As far as databases go, I definitely remember them not being super interesting, until I started to actually create my own database on the side and fill it with... actual data. Databases can be mundane and tiring, but the data, on the other hand... that can really be interesting and motivating. At least when you find the right data to store. It's a shame that motivating projects and school projects rarely overlap.

Take it from a teacher – we hate distance learning too.

My university is trying as hard as possible to do in-person classes (primarily for economic reasons, but there's an added benefit for the actual educators). It is hard to do with physical distancing, though – my class sizes are twice as small due to space limitations.

Glad to hear that you're getting something out of it, at least. Computational skills will set you apart when it comes to job applications.

Cute sketch!

I am sorry to hear about the distance learning, that sounds like a terribly difficult transition. :(
(Also, I can totally relate to the sticky-note inspiration! )

I'm currently between classes, although distance learning has been really tough for me as well. One would think it'd be easy with my artwork being done digitally, although not being able to separate my home from work environment has always been difficult. Growing up I always did homework at school whenever possible since I usually just couldn't concentrate otherwise.

It's been a learning experience to say the least, I've adjusted well enough I guess, at least to continue being somewhat productive. I just hope the world can return to a sense of normalcy soon.
