That Was Without A Single Drop Of Run

Yep, you guessed it. I was able to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 for the first (and second) time this week.

Story:

This one was certainly better than the second movie in the series. Of course, without #2, this would have made no sense, but the story was much better. There are a few parts here that just make you want to  . I mean, really, what was the point of the crabs in the locker doing what they did? Obviously it was to get the Pearl out to sea, but from their point of view, it was work they could have just not done.

Great, now we're being followed by rocks.

The ending was alright. The battle was awesome. All the twists and turns leading up to it certainly rival those of the first movie. I'm still not too happy with where the ending puts William and Elizabeth, but it's just one of those things that are. The biggest question is: why couldn't she go with the [other] Turners? It's obvious that humans can survive such journeys, considering that there was an entire crew before.

Humor:

This movie was just plain weird. The two captains of the Black Pearl always arguing is always funny. I especially like the spyglass rivalry. One of the deleted scenes, which I really wish they could have kept, had a shot where Jack gives orders to move "Two degrees starboard." Protesting, Barbossa orders: "I'm cap'n of the starboard side! Two degrees. Starboard."

Most of the 'humor' in the movie comes between the many jacks. I imagine, and the movie team did mention this on the DVD, that these scenes where difficult to shoot. The little Jacks on the shoulders had to actually be done on a "dreadlocks set." Some favorite quotes (excluding the title quote) below.

Yes, he is quite charming

Nobody move! I've lost my brain.

(the chicken Jack aboard the Pearl)

Four of you've tried to kill me in the past. One of you succeeded.

Did no one come to save me just because they missed me?

What's that? (rocking the ship)

King!

Effects:

Most of the effects, as would be expected, occur during the climax, where everyone is present at the battle. The whirlpool is incredible, and all the debree and waves splashing about is nice, and in general everything looks good. Yayshmor.

And with that...

I wash my hands of this weirdness.

On some comments on a pamphlet inside the DVD, it states that the journey ferrying souls is too dangerous for humans to undertake. Therefore, the crew of the Dutchman in itself is supernatural. Just normal looking. As to why Barbossa amd the rest could do it, I assume Tia Dalma/Calypso was protecting them.

Quite a few plot turns. But satisfying in the end.

*has watched it 6 times in the past two weeks*

Seriously.

The crabs moved the ships on command of Tia Dalma. Something that only becomes clear once she turns into a massive wave of crabs, offcourse.

Elizabeth can't go because she is now the Pirate King (Queen, technically) and Will needs to do the job that Jones neglected.
