Pegasus

Nukora

I often travel to a nearby town north of where I live. I don't know if this is always how it is, but lately I've been riding primarily in passenger seats - even when in the back. As such, I get to face the Western stars on the trips back. I've been seeing this square asterism that I recognized from somewhere, but couldn't identify. This is roughly given below.

My first thought was "Square...could it be Pegasus? I've never identified it." At one point tonight the square looked somewhat like Cygnus, because of its diagonal positioning. But I soon realised it was far too large for that and was to the left of the Milky Way rather than in it (although the two are relatively close, I think).

And it was Pegasus. This marks the first time I've identified a constellation without going outside specifically to look for one I researched. It would appear that it's receding from my hemisphere of view, though. I'll have to wait a while 'til I can see it again and by then I might not even identify it. On the plus side, my Spring friends Leo and Orion are back (thankfully, Cassiopea and the good ol' Ursae never leave).

Yeah, over where I live, I usually see Orion in the winter, and the Dippers in the summer (around June). It's kinda fun to show friends the north star. :D

I can get Orion, but that's about it. Something about being in a city and not having the best eyesight. :annoyed2:
