YesYesYesYes...

Backstory: About three years ago, I purchased a Panasonic analog camcorder for my senior project. (I probably wrote about it here, back before people read this blog) Being an analog, it works with a tape instead of a CD or DVD or microchip... because, back then, that kind of technology still offered the best quality for video editing. (My initial idea for my senior project was to shoot a short movie).

Unfortunately, even though the product description said we could use a USB or Firewire port, we were only ever able to make it work using out Firewire port. And after a few times, our computer's firewire port, or whatever it has in there, broke, and we couldn't get the camcorder to work on it. So we could film stuff, sure, and rewatch it on the camera (or the TV... we had cords for that too) but we could not download the footage into a file and edit it. Basically, the main purpose for getting the camera. :(

This last week I started tinkering with it again, to see if it would work on my laptop. (It didn't) I went to Best Buy and asked the guys at the help desk about it (Geek Squad, I believe, although I think I prefer the Nerd Herd from Chuck. Much more entertaining, even if they'd make lousy customer service people). The guy said that with the stuff I have, I should be able to make it work. (And here I was thinking I'd have to buy a new cord at least, if not just scrap the camera and get a new one, which I wouldn't have done). He thought the software I was using was the problem, and suggested I use the products original software. And because that software was out of date, I had to go download one off Panasonic's website that would work with Vista.

Even though I doubted it would work (considering we haven't gotten it to work in three years) I downloaded the 150 MB file (which took the better part of an hour) and tested it out. And, whatdoyaknow, it worked!!

So not only will I have a camcorder that can work with my laptop, I will also have a quality video taking device for BrickCon!
