I am literally in tears after finishing this book.

It was gorgeous.

Whyyyy oh why can't there be more authors like Fitzgerald? ;___;

*goes to cry a happy cry*

A beautiful and yet saddening portrayal of 1920's culture and how it declined due to materialism and greed.

Plus there's some romance and some dead people and a dog and a couple boats and this guy that juices oranges.

lulz.

My interpretation of it was the utter fallacy of idealism and materialism being juxtaposed (big word! I feel so fancy!) - one-sided at best, and at worst, hero-worship on one end, manipulation on the other.

Eh, it was all right.

And apparently there was some stuff removed that had some homosexual overtones? I think I wrote an essay about that.

I thought that it was just the American Dream in general that died off.

And what romance? :???:

Nah, that dream is still in existance, though not as prominently as it used to be.

Personally I am still in a phase where I don't like to read about real-life that much, at least not without a bit of extra fiction in it.

Well, yeah, but TGG basically showed and subverted the American Dream of Rags to riches. That's what I was talking about. xP

I just read that for my Literature class. As an ardent lover of the 20s and The Great Gatsby, I'm happy to see that it's still popular elsewhere.

Watch out for green lights! They'll always get you!

Curse you, Perry the Platypus!"

I just bought this novel a few hours ago, and I just read this entry as I opened to read the first page o__O

Also, I have no opinion on it yet as I have yet to actually read it. :P

I've only ever cried in books because of dogs dying.

Namely in Where the Red Fern Grows and in The Knife of Never Letting Go.

Sadface :(.
