Skillet is special to me because of the lyrics. I relate with them very much. I don't find them cheesy...just real situations, worded in a lovely poetic sense. Pretty awesome rock too, they know how to play that guitar.

 

Of course I have a wide variety of music interests, because I always see things different than others when it comes to this. They're just good musicians.

I find that the lyrics don't really speak to me because they seem to have some religious meaning behind them... and I'm not religious. I suppose the message would have more importance for different kinds of people. I'd say their playing is average; a lot of their songs sound similar and have the same generic rock feel.

I like a total of two songs by Skillet, and even those two songs are mediocre at best.

 

they're semi-talented musicians and songwriters, but stylistically they just seem to fall into the whole generic Hard Rock/Post-Grunge genre that's already over-saturated with similar (and some better) bands. they're just not all that interesting.

I'm not a big fan of their older albums, but I love Collide, Comatose, and Awake. Music-wise, they're heavy enough to deserve headbanging without being screamy. Lyric-wise, you can always find at least one song that associates with your current mood. Love, despair, anger, depression... or feeling like a monster.

 

Also, they are amazing live. <3

Really, though, I guess what it comes down to is I like them because they meet something inside me. Everyone has their own ingrained music likes, and Skillet is one of the bands that I can listen to and thoroughly enjoy.

I love them because they're fun to watch, and great musicians and lyricists. Of course I only like their music up to Collide. I hate Comatose and Awake. The quality and originality of their music went down majorly with those two albums.

Eh. They're okay. I wouldn't call them mediocre in a sense, they're just a band I'm not a terribly big fan of. They have a few good songs, mostly from the most recent album, and they're not necessarily "bad", they just don't rise above expectations most of the time.

My main issues with Skillet stem from the same areas as yours, Chunks. Atheist, not a huge post-grunge/nu-metal fan, etc.

Though I agree with Xae. Fantastic for making bacon.

I used to like their music a good deal more, but I've moved on since then. I still listen to some of their works.

 

Turakii mentioned their usage of Violins - I too particularly enjoy that aspect of their music. However, most of the time the violins are drowned out by the heavy guitar, which most of the time I don't like.

 

I think the reason I like them is their melodic parts. But the heavy guitar stuff does put me off.

Some of their electronic stuff can be good.

 

Oh, and what Lady K said; I can relate to the Lyrics very well.

I'm a semi-fan also. I just like the music, and that's about it.

Of COURSE there is a Christian message behind their songs. That's what drives them. It's who they are. Besides, most of their songs, once you delve into the lyrics, have some very interesting twists. And yeah, most of the reasons people have given above too.

I quite honestly have no clue why I like them. Something just clicks with them.

 

Same basis with half my music collection.

I like Skillets. I use them to make breakfast.
