  1. Has anybody else had their Bohrok-Kal canisters and instructions suffer severe fading from UV exposure over the years? Back in the day I used to display some of my canisters on shelves where the sunlight would hit them directly for years on end; thankfully this is something I stopped doing after a certain point, but unfortunately some damage has already been done, specifically to my Bohrok-Kal canisters. Curiously enough, my Bohrok canisters were displayed right next to my Bohrok-Kal canisters and their labels look as well as they did on the day they were purchased, whereas the damage on the Bohrok-Kal is so severe that even the instructions inside them have faded around the edges where the labels hadn't covered them, and Kohrak-Kal's lid in particular has begun to deteriorate and smell like old/burned plastic. Has anybody else had this happen to them? I'm curious whether US releases may have been of better quality than the European ones?
  2. Bohrok Kal Possibilities and Outline So we all know about the bohrok kal, six special variations of standard bohrok created to free the bahrag if something happened to them. So we know right now that most of the bohrok kal are dead, except for lehvak who is in space orbiting spherus magna however his krana is still intact on spherus along with a few other krana kal. So where are the krana right now? are they in the possesion of the turaga still? were they given new bodies? We also know that the bahrag are on spherus, so will they create more kals? The red star is also a thing so will that rebuild them or not since their krana's are still intact. Also theoretically kohrak kal could also be rebuilt as he just fell apart. P.s can bohrok operate on their own without krana? After all they were av matoran once. Just thinking from Lehvak kal's point of view.

  4. Hi, guys! I know that Bionicle had ended a year ago sadly, but let’s be happy about Bionicle for something else. You see, this year, 2018, is the 15th anniversary of Bionicle’s early 2003 storyline, which involved the Bohrok-Kal. I know that this year doesn't have anything Bionicle-related, but let’s celebrate the 15th anniversary of the 2003 storyline. That would enlighten you more. Let me tell you the early 2003 storyline: The storyline is about the Toa Nuva, who are Toa Mata enhanced by a magical substance called Energized Protodermis in the 2002 storyline (which involved the Bohrok), fighting against a new threat, which is a team of six mutated Bohrok called the Bohrok-Kal. The Bahrag, the Bohrok's queens who were imprisoned by the Toa Mata with a prison in the previous storyline, mutated these six Bohrok, each from one of the six types of Bohrok, to create their elite team who they tasked to free the queens. Each Bohrok-Kal have new elemental powers that replaced ones from their former selves, have silver secondary colors, and can talk. The Bohrok-Kal are: 1. Tahnok-Kal (mutated Tahnok that has electricity powers instead of fire, and it's red) 2. Gahlok-Kal (mutated Gahlok that has magnetic powers instead of water, and it's blue) 3. Levahk-Kal (mutated Levahk that has vacuum powers instead of acid, and it's green) 4. Kovahk-Kal (mutated Kovahk that has sonic powers instead of ice, and it's white) 5. Panrahk-Kal (mutated Panrahk that has plasma powers instead of stone, and it's brown) 6. Nuvohk-Kal (mutated Nuvohk that has gravity powers instead of earth, and it's black) Their Krana are also mutated into the Krana-Kal, which also have new powers that replaced ones from their original forms. The Bohrok-Kal go to get and steal six magical tablets called the Nuva Symbols, which contained the Toa Nuva's elemental powers and are placed on their Suva, to use them as keys to use another magical object called the Nuva Cube to free the queens from their prison. Along the way, the Bohrok attacked the Toa's people who got in their way. Once the Bohrok stole the Symbols, the Toa Nuva's elemental powers are gone, as their masks turned grey. The Toa Nuva, who decided to separate before this, got weakened by this, got defeated by the Bohrok-Kal in one fight, and have to work together to get their symbols back. When they found the Bohrok-Kal in the Bohrok Nest, where the Cube is, they were too late to stop the Bohrok from unleashing the queens, who would awaken the normal Bohrok, who would attack the Toa's people again. However, before the Bohrok-Kal were going to insert the Symbols into the Cube, which could free the queens, Tahu uses a powerful new Kanohi mask called the Kanohi Vahi, aka the Mask of Time, which is given by Turaga Vakama, to stop them, allowing the Toa to go get their Symbols back, but the Krana-Kal turned silver as they protected the Bohrok-Kal from the Toa. The Toa did a trick that made the Bohrok-Kal stronger, and this made the Bohrok prefer their newly enhanced power over freeing the queens, but the Toa overloaded the Bohrok's powers so much that the powers have defeated them. The Toa got their powers back. The day is saved. Later on, there are some extra things before the Mask of Light events (late 2003). First, the Turaga had their Matoran rebuilt themselves to have stronger forms, and the Matoran changed their names a little. Second, the Toa have to find a new set of Kanohi Masks called the Kanohi Nuva, which are the same as the ones they got during their transformation from the Energized Protodermis. The Kanohi Nuva are enhanced versions of regular Kanohi. Each of the Toa has to find its own five Kanohi Nuva, which also have the same color as it is. That was done, as the Toa placed their new masks into their Suva. To celebrate, let me ask you this: What are your fond memories of the storyline and/or what do you like about it? Let me say my answer. I think it's alright. The sets, which are only six, one for each Bohrok-Kal, are okay. I mean, they're cool, like the Bohrok, as I like the head-hitting (like a chicken), the Krana-Kal launching, and the transformation into a ball. I like their silver pieces, the prints on their heads, and new shields. It's interesting that they are like counterparts to the Toa Nuva by color as much as the Bohrok are to the Toa Mata. The Bohrok-Kal are mostly re-colored versions of the Bohrok. There is that pack with the Kanohi Nuva and Krana-Kal. It's neat to collect more of these masks, like the ones in 2001 and 2002. Plus, the Mask of Time came as a set piece. It's hard that you had to get it through a promotional thing, but it's neat. The same would go to the silver Krana-Kal. Next, the combo models. Well, the models, which are the Bohrok-Kal Kaita, which are the one with the Kovahk-Kal, Gahlok-Kal, and Levahk-Kal and the one with the Tahnok-Kal, Panrahk-Kal, and Nuvohk-Kal, are alright. They look kind of weird, but cool. The first one looks like a Bohrok-Kal's head being smashed and the second one looks like a Tahnok-Kal having enlarged arms and legs while his body is unchanged. But, hey, they look cool, as I said. (Why not make look even like the, though) As for the story and media, well, the story is okay. It is told through three comic books, two chapter books, and three online animations called the Bohrok-Kal Online Animations (in a way). I like the part where Lewa fell off a tree, the little Rahi cows being magnetically stuck to Pohatu and his friends, Tahu's army of Tahnok being easily defeated by Nuvohl-Kal when it uses its gravity powers to send them to outer space (Lol. ), Tahu using the Mask of Time, and all six of the Bohrok-Kal being defeated by having their powers overloaded. Plus, it's neat to see the Mask, and this is where the Mask first appeared. The Bohrok-Kal are quite cool and smart. I like their new powers. Strangely, why not make them Nuva versions of the Bohrok, like the Toa Nuva (Like, you know, having enhanced versions of the normal Bohrok's powers)? It's because they look like Nuva versions of the Bohrok because of their silver color and shields. Their shields look more like they can use normal Bohrok's powers rather than the Bohrok-Kal's. Plus, why not make armies of each type of Bohrok-Kal, like the Bohrok (The Bohrok-Kal sound like new types of Bohrok because of their new powers)? It's interesting that the Bohrok-Kal and even their Krana-Kal can talk and have minds of their own. Plus, their Krana-Kal can turn silver and protect the Bohrok-Kal from harm, even if they are stopped in time magically. The Toa Nuva are cool characters, and I like that they used their strategy to defeat the Bohrok-Kal by overloading their powers. However, I am disappointed that the Toa have to rely on the Symbols to keep their enhanced elemental powers. Why not just keep the powers in the Toa's bodies, like their normal selves? You know, it's quite interesting that the Bohrok-Kal's powers have been used to give the Makuta species and new types of Toa the same powers later on. So, guys, what are you fond memories of the storyline, what do you like about it, what’s your favorite Bohrok-Kal (set), favorite character(s) in the storyline, favorite moment in the storyline, what things remind you of the storyline, and/or how would you celebrate it? For me, my favorite Bohrok-Kal sets are the Tahnok-Kal, Levahk-Kal, and Nuvohk-Kal. My favorite characters are Tahu, Lewa, Tahnok-Kal, Levahk-Kal, and Nuvohk-Kal. I really wish that the Nuva Symbols and the Nuva Cube would be set pieces, and Toa Kaita Akami Nuva (Tahu+Pohatu+Onua) and that Bohrok-Kal Katia with Tahnok-Kal, Panrahk-Kal, and Nuvohk-Kal had happened in the story, though. The things that remind me are: 1. Lanterns' Power Batteries from DC Comics in a way, as the Lanterns rely on those things to recharge their powers, otherwise they wouldn't have their powers unless they recharge them. 2. The Hard-Boiled Heavies from Sonic Mania in 2017. 3. The episode in a Marvel TV show called Ultimate Spider-Man while a superhero named Ben Reilly planned to let a villain named Kaine absorb empowering energy to defeat him. 4. The Skull Villains from Bionicle 2015-2016 - They drain the Toa Masters' elemental energy after stealing their masks.
  5. Just interested since I just picked up Lehvak-Kal and Gahlok-Kal. I know they weren't received very well since they're basically clones of the regular Bohrok, but does anyone here on BZPower like them or at least somewhat like them? IMO whilst the design wasn't very innovative by 2003, I kinda liked them just by how they emphasised the 'Elite' Bohrok feel, with the heavy silver instead of bright colours and the reptilian pattern on the faceplate. to me they felt a lot more brutish and powerful, which is why I quite liked them. In fact the biggest downside for me was not the lack of innovation, but rather the fact that the Krana-Kal of Tahnok-Kal, Nuhvok-Kal and Pahrak-Kal seem to be mixed up colour-wise. But what did you guys think of them? I'm interested to see if anyone else actually liked the Bohrok-Kal somewhat.
  6. I have been following this post here and was contemplating posting this under it, since to me it seems very silly, but as I thought about it more, a lot more questions appeared regarding the topic so I decided to make a larger discussion about it. But enough prattling, here goes: How did the Bohrok-Kal know about the Nuva Symbols, particularly in regard to the fact that they would take away the Toa's powers if they were stolen? They had never seen them before, Toa Nuva never existed before, and the Nuva Symbols just happened to appear coincidentally when the Toa transformed, which they also had no way of knowing. On that note, the Nuva cube was created by Artahka too, which meant he purposefully made it possible for someone other than the Toa themselves to unlock the Bahrag queens. Was it all a failsafe to ensure the queens weren't stuck there forever if the Toa were incapacitated? Was he worried that the Toa would never willingly unleash the Bohrok again after their ordeal? Was he the one who planted the idea of stealing the symbols in the Kal's mind? Anyways, please discuss I'm curious.
  7. I was looking over the list of various Kraata powers that a Makuta has, and I noticed that they possess all the powers of the Bohrok-Kal. Now I'm sure that they don't have as much control over that power as the Kal did, but the fact of the matter is still there. The question is, was there a connection between the Antidermis that the Makuta are made of and the Kal substance that the Bahrag used, and that by creating the Kal they tapped into the powers of the Makuta and gave them to the respective Bohrok? or did the story writers just run out of powers for the Makuta, and decided "hey, we haven't used these powers in awhile, lets reuse them and let Makuta (and through extension Rahkshi) have the ability to have these powers too."? Or could there be a third reason? I'm open for ideas and opinions, I have no opinion of my own on this subject.
  8. Do you guys think the Toa Nuva could still become Kaita after receiving their adaptive armor? Could other teams of Toa become Kaita as well? Matoran, Bohrok-kal, and Rahkshi can all form Kaitas, why not other toa like the Inika/Mahri, or the Metru/Hordika?
  9. So I don't know if this topic has already been discussed, but this has been on my mind ever since the Bohrok-Kal came out. Was it set error that gave Nuhvok-Kal a reddish gold krana-kal, Tahnok-Kal a bronze one, and Pahrak-Kal a steel grey one? When I bought the sets, I just swapped out the krana-kal just so they matched their respective Bohrok, but it still bugged me that those colors were advertised and distributed with them. So, was that purposeful? Or was it all just a big mistake? Questions, comments, rude remarks? (preferably not the latter)
  10. This is a songfic based on the music video Bionicle Hero. The funny thing is I envisioned this years ago, but the images stuck with me. Finally I got around to writing it just recently, and I think it turned out rather well, actually. Thankfully the forums are back online and I can post it. By the way, if you've never heard "Bionicle Hero", you'll want to look it up. Great song. Bionicle Hero As you're on your way back home, Something catch your eyes untold. One fine sunny day on the island of Mata Nui, I was taking a stroll down from Ga-Koro to my home in Ta-Koro. I'd just been doing some business in Ga-Koro and was now returning home. I am a Ta-Matoran, if you could not guess, and my name is Taku. The Bohrok swarms had just recently been defeated by our noble and heroic Toa, who were then transformed into Toa Nuva. All on the island was now peaceful, save the odd Rahi trouble. As I was saying, I was on my way down this path, when in a clump of bushes up ahead I saw something very strange. I couldn't tell quite what it was, but it sparkled in the sun. I drew closer, pushed my way through the bushes, and found myself in the center of a vegatative ring. In the center, protruding from the dirt, was a little sack of widgets. Well, what do you know? Who could have left these here? I supposed it did not matter, as there weren't very many widgets. But as I pulled it free, the sand under it started draining downwards, as if it were being sucked into the ground. I realized that indeed it was being sucked in and my heart stopped. Quicksand! The hole was widening at an alarming rate, so I turned to run. But too late. The sand under my feet was collapsing under me. I struggled, but in vain. I slid into the pit. When I reached bottom, however, I was surprised to find myself flying through space. The light of day disappeared above me and I sank into a dark void. Finally, I landed on my side with a terrible jolt. I rose slowly to my feet. Fear of darkness lingers here. Tremble as you get the fear... I looked about me and realized I was underground. Above me I could see a circle of light, but sand was still falling and I coughed and my vision was obscured. I retrieved a lightstone from my pack and looked about. I whistled. What a cave. It stretched in every direction farther than the lightstone could make clear to me, and made up an entire landscape in itself. There were pillars of stone rising high in the air, cliffs rising and falling, and a river cutting and winding its way through the place. I couldn't believe such a place existed down here, and one I'd never known of before. There was something strange about this cave, too. As my eyes began to adjust to the darkness, I noticed strange lights in the distance, at varying points, and the texture of the stone was almost. . . Creepy. The more I looked about, the more I began to feel strange twinges of fear. But why should I? I did not understand. It was just a cave, after all. But then, things often lurked in caves, did they not? All the same I knew there must be a way out somewhere. I retrieved the sack of widgets and placed it in my pack. Knowing there wasn't likely to be anyone along the road above at this time of day, and remembering the principal that says water always flows downwards, I set off to follow the river towards its point of origin. Now you're on the cornerstone, Fearing you'd be left alone. I followed the river as far as I could walk. It had taken me an hour to get there. The head of the river broke free from under the cavern wall, and there was no way to follow it without swimming. Being a Ta-Matoran I was natuarally averse to the idea, and besides that I still had an unnatural feeling of fear in this place, but there was nothing else for it. I would have to brave it and swim. A few long-held breaths and thorough soakings later I realized I would be unable to follow the river any farther. There were no air pockets within my reach of this point. Who will lose, who will prevail? Who will tell the final tale...? Suddenly, I shivered, and not just from the cold. The nagging feeling of fear suddenly came on me again, only stronger this time. In all the time I'd been in the cave it hadn't left me. Being a long-time member of the Ta-Koro Guard I liked to pride myself a bit on my instinct, and I wondered what manner of beasts might be lurking in here. I set off at perhaps a bit quick of a pace along the wall, praying I would find an exit. Suddenly I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I jerked my head in that direction. Had something just darted behind that pillar. . . ? My heart-rate quickened, as did my pace. There it goes, Again. Dust kicked up behind my pattering feet as I searched desperately for a way out. I could not understand what was causing me to behave so irrationally. But there! I saw movement again! I still could not make anything out when I turned to look, but I realized I was not alone in this cave. And something or someone was following me. There it goes, Again. I ran on, casting frequent glances over my shoulder, certain that something was after me. I didn't have long to wait before I discovered what it was. Something darted out in front of me. I skidded to a halt, and jumped back from the creature that had surprised me. It was a Bohrok. Oh, is that all? Mind you, they were quite dangerous, but I'd fought a good many Bohrok in the war alongside my fellow Guards, even with my bare hands. I didn't fear them any more than dangerous Rahi. Unless they were Lehvak. Lehvak sent shivers through even our noble Captain, Jaller. I stood my ground, setting my expression to that of defiance. The Bohrok stepped into the radius of light cast by my lightstone. Instantly I was taken aback. Something about this one, its sleeker, stronger body, the sickly patterns spread across it, made the feeling of horror return to me stronger than ever. I couldn't help myself. When it raised its shields and pointed them at me, I leaped to the side and ran off a few yards. Just as I did, the ground behind me exploded, bits of melting rock flying in every direction. If I hadn't moved, I would've been dead. The Bohrok turned slowly to look at me, then jerked its head at me. Chik! Chik! I quickly evaluated the best course of action. I fled for my life. Do you know, What it takes to be a Hero? When you're lost, A piece of love, a piece of you. I quickly realized that there was more than one Bohrok after me as I ran on, and the feelings of terror only grew worse. Glimpses of them told me they were part of the same elite group, as Elite Bohrok I realized they must be. I heard the crackle of an energy blast behind me. I leaped to the side, a pillar was struck and began to crumble. But it would lay in my path, if it landed in front of me they would catch me. I put on a short burst of speed and slid under just as it was about to squash me. I lay on my back, and was breathing hard. Which meant I wasn't dead. I slowly raised myself from the ground and looked back at the wall now lying between my pursurers and I. I laughed quietly to myself. Then two of them leaped to the top of the pillar and jerked thier heads down at me. Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! With fresh vigour, I resumed my mad dash. Bursts of power struck the ground around me, clouds of shrapnel flying in the air. Just like the Tahnok invasion of Ta-Koro. One blast landed just shy of me and sent me flying. No, worse, worse! I quickly found my feet and ran on. During the midst of this I dropped my lightstone, and I was forced to run blindly in the dark. By now my eyes were more or less well-adjusted to the blackness, but I still found myself stumbling off small cliffs and nearly crashing into pillars. Do you have, What it takes to beat the Fearless? In your heart, To grow up strong, and undo wrong? One time I found myself floating in the air, feeling weightless, only to be sent flying, my body feeling as if different parts were being pulled in different directions. The Bohrok hissed at each other behind me as if they'd gotten in each other's way. A bolt of electrical energy surged past me and began forming itself into a wall, but I swerved aside it just before it could stretch far enough to block my path. I soon indentified several of their powers: Gravity, magnetism, electricity, and something very hot and explosive, but I couldn't tell quite what it was. Science lesson over, I kept moving. Bursts of energy checkered the vicinity, breaking pillars, sending rock flying through the air, even putting a few holes in the ceiling. Whatever these things were, they didn't strike me as discreet. To grow up strong, and undo wrong. The flashes of energy began to dwindle, until finally my pursuers seemed to give up the chase. I couldn't bear to stop running just yet. My legs bore me on a good distance farther before I stopped, panting very hard, behind a pillar. My body was used to terrible exertions, especially after everything in the the Bohrok War. Even so it took me a few minutes to regain my breath and my bearings. Finally I set off at a brisk pace, my every sense alert for the first sign of danger. I didn't know where I was going, but I wasn't going to find my way out by just sitting there, now was I? Walking down that well-worn road, Something changed but who would know? I walked along what seemed to be a defined path, with rows of well-spaced pillars running along either side, but for what point and purpose the road existed I could not fathom. As far as I knew no Matoran had ever set foot here, and I'd lived on this island for a millenium, so who in the world had built this? Then it hit me. Bohrok. Cave. This place must be connected to the Bohrok Hives. . . . Yes, that explained it. Although it didn't look quite like any hives I'd seen or had heard described, but I felt that that must be the explanation. Suddenly, I thought I heard a noise. A very, very small noise, and, I thought, from somewhere above me. Yet it was so faint that even with my senses on edge I thought I might have imagined it. I picked up the pace a bit regardless, wondering what possible strategy I could use against those monsters if they returned, and what environmental location would best suit it. The smile you get is poison-willed, The color you once knew is killed. Bam. A cloud of dust rose up in front of me, and I froze in terror. The dust cleared. One of the Bohrok turned slowly around to look at me. Close as it was, it seemed to be smiling with glee out of the darkness. And as you realize what's wrong, The dirt under your feet is gone. Bam. Bam. Bam. I turned from the first Bohrok only to find another one landing in that direction. Then another, and another. All six landed in a circle around me, and I found myself face-to-face with the one resembling a Tahnok. I always liked to pride myself, just a bit, on my ability to stand firm in the face of terrible odds. But something about this cave. . . . It just wasn't natural, it did something to me. Something I'd never experienced to this degree before. In my shock and horror, I felt the ground shift under me. The dirt was gone from under my feet, and I found myself landing heavily on my side. The enemy looks in your eyes. Now it's time to make it right. Despite my trepidation, I looked up at the creature, intending to meet my fate bravely. The monster bent down to me and looked me in the eyes, seeming to radiate with malicious glee. My face fell. The emotions roiled inside me. I slowly rose into a kneeling position. I remembered the way I'd felt about the Bohrok during the war, I remembered the mad heart-stopping chase through this cavern, I could still see the smug face looking down on me. Then I did something very brave, and very, incredibly, foolish. But I had no intention of dying on my knees. I'd prefer to die fighting anyway. I pulled back my arm and focused all my energy into a terrific punch, delivered straight into the creature's triumphant countenance. The metal of my fist connected with the metal of the monster's face. To my incredible surprise, the Bohrok was thrown into the air, as if my strength had increased a hundred-fold. What? Do you know, What it takes to be a Hero? When you're lost, A piece of love, a piece of you. I was incredulous. My eyes must surely have deceived me. I couldn't have sent that Bohrok to where it lay, momentarily stunned, a dozen feet away. Then I heard a noise behind me and I turned. Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! Chik! The creatures chittered like mad as a newcomer invaded their victory party. A Toa-sized figure landed beside me, pressed my head down, and spun in a circle. His sword of fire blazed as flames erupted in a circle, sending the creatures backward. He knelt beside me. "On my back, now!" Instantly I was on my feet and scrambling onto his back as he stood. He was indeed a Toa, and the red armor betrayed the identity of Toa Tahu. "Now hold on tight!" The Bohrok had gathered in front of us. Tahu leaped over their heads in a terrific somersault. A stream of energy flashed our way. A crescent of flame altered its course. We landed. He spun around. He sent a wall of fire toward the creatures. So began an epic battle of incredible power. Do you have, What it takes to beat the Fearless? In your heart, To grow up strong, and undo wrong? It was a terrific battle. Power lanced in both directions. Tahu's battle cries and exertion were terrific, matched as he was against six foes, each of power equal to his own. He sought to outrun them, dodging and deflecting all the way. A wall of sound struck us. I screamed and was nearly forced to loosen my hold to cover my ears, but a well-aimed firebolt came to the result of ending the noise. We ran on. A molten pit opened up before us, but my rescuer jumped clear and we ran on. Gravity was lessened. We found ourselves floating in the air. Tahu aimed his sword of flame behind us and jetted us forwards. Gravity increases. He aims the jet below to slow our fall, switching to his Mask of Strength, then runs on at normal speed. All was mindless action and reaction, with me hanging on for dear life as he fought. A pillar ahead of us is struck by a lightning bolt and begins to fall. It nearly crushes us, but we roll out of the way just in time. The pillar explodes behind us as we dash on. A cyclone strikes us and flings us through the air. Inside the cyclone, I find myself unable to breath. Worse, I can't even feel any wind. I can't breathe because there is no air in the cyclone, which really isn't a cyclone but a whirling mass of seeming nothiness. Then we're thrown clear of it, but I lose my grip and fall. I can't see Tahu, but a Bohrok is on me in an instant. Then I hear a defiant bellow behind me and a burst of flames sends the beast before me running for cover. The other Bohrok gather up, and I start running. Tahu runs over, picks me up and saddles me on my his back. I hold on for dear life once more as the mad chase continues. To grow up strong, and undo wrong. Finally, inexplicably, we find the entrance to a smaller cave. But somehow the Bohrok managed to reach it before us. Snarling, they leap at us. Tahu snarls back and leaps at them. After a brief but more direct skirmish, involving a lot of being jolted and jostled about on my part as we fly around with his sword flashing, along with fire, electricity, sound waves, gravity beams, magnetism and I didn't know what else filling the air, we find ourselves next to the entrance. We dash into it. Spinning on his heel, Tahu unleashes a terrific wave of fire into the cave, washing over the Bohrok. Their chitterous whines and screams are heard scrambling off. Then he launches a fireball that strikes the roof of the entrance and sent huge boulders falling into the cave between us and the Bohrok. He waits a moment to listen. Yes, the Bohrok had definitely run off, if those screams attest anything. Or most of them. Nevertheless, panting heavily, Tahu turns on his heel once more and continues on at a reasonable trot. "Ugh, Bohrok-Kal", he spat. "Troublesome creatures, aren't they? And yet they do have their purpose." He seemed lost in thought for a moment. There was nothing I could say. I still panted heavily, I was numb, and the cave wouldn't stop spinning. "Hey, you alright back there? I was trying to save your life, and I, uh, hope I've succeeded." He shifted me off of his back to hold me in his arms. Normally I would have found it just a little bit awkard of a position, but under the circumstances the thought didn't even cross my mind. I stared up into his friendly Hau-bearing face. "I- I-" I gasped for breath. "I think I'm alright, Toa Tahu. That is if I'm just dizzy and this cave isn't actually spinning." He chuckled. "I'm afraid not. Regular old cave." "Well then, I'll live." "Thank Mata Nui for that! You seem to have a knack for getting yourself in trouble, little one." He looked at me, a flash of worry momentarily crossing his face as he looked aside. Then it passed and he smiled again. "Yes, well, being in the Ta-Koro Guard, that tends to happen." "Ah, yes, I suppose it does. Even so, you are too im- . . ." He shook his head. "Never mind. You've done great service to your people in the past, and I'm sure Mata Nui is proud of you." I smiled at that. Then I frowned. "Wait a moment. Toa Tahu, did you call those things 'Bohrok-Kal'? How do you know what they are? Were you told of them by the Turaga?" "How do I know?" He thought for a moment. "Well, that's what they are, aren't they?" His eyes twinkled, or so I assumed in the darkness. I raised an eyepiece. What was he talking about? Finally we reached the entrance to the cave and I forgot my confusion. I leapt from his arms, kissed the ground, and raised my arms to the sky from knee-position, thanking Mata Nui. "Daylight!" Tahu laughed and walked out beside me. I beamed at him, more fond of our brave hero now than ever, only to stop and gape. "Wait. . . wait a moment." That mask was a Hau alright, but it wasn't a Hau Nuva. But I'd seen Tahu several times since his transformation. He smiled at me. "No, it's not a Hau Nuva I'm wearing, is it?" I also noticed that the armor was all wrong. "You're. . . you're. . ." "No. I'm not Tahu." I waited a moment, digesting this information. "What? But then who. . . ?" He chuckled, then saw something behind me. Striding over, he reached down and picked up a Kakama off the ground. "For goodness' sake! There you are! I must have dropped you in my haste to get here." He groaned. "It would have been a lot easier in there if you had been there." He rolled his eyes and put the mask in his pack. "Well, anyway, it turned out alright, eh Taku?" Not only was he not Tahu, but some strange seventh Toa, when as far as I knew there'd only ever been six, and we Matoran had certainly never seen this being before, but he also knew my name. Suspicions nagged at the corners of my mind, but I pushed them off. He had, after all, just risked his neck to save mine. Then another realization hit me. "'On your way here?' How on earth did you know I was going to be down there?" He frowned, thinking. He glanced at me, then returned to thought. It seemed he hadn't intended to let that slip. I sighed, stood up, walked over, and grasped his arm. "Thank you." He smiled down at me. He raised his fist, as if in a friendly gesture, but then seeming to catch himself he lowered it and patted my on the top of the mask instead. "It's what we do, little one. But now I must go. No more getting mixed with these Bohrok-Kal creatures, understand? Take care, little one." He retrieved the Kakama, bore it, and was off, a cloud of dust speeding towards the horizon. What a strange Toa. . . . I turned and shook my head, then stopped. "Oh, shoot. I left my pack in the cave. I'd saved up a hundred widgets, too. Well, I've more at home and of course my life is worth a lot more than that anyway." I chuckled, still somewhat numb, and meandered off in the general direction of Ta-Koro, undecided as to whether I would report this strange occurence to the Turaga. What a day. . .

    Spaced Out

SPACED OUTA story about being alone, confused and cold. In space.Written by Katuko. It was dark. Everything was dark. Well, not everything. There were a couple of flashing lights inside the strange creature's head, but it was certain that came from... whatever had made it black out in the first place. It opened its eyes. Well, "open" may be the wrong word, given their mechanical nature. As they flickered back to life, however, they began glowing a deep red. On, open, glowing... it's the same thing in the end, thought the creature. Its thought processes paused momentarily as various signals pulsed throughout its body, relaying information back to the brain. The news were not good. Shell damage extensive, but not immediately dangerous. Major damage to rear section: back, neck, head and leg joints. Minor damage to arms, hands, hand shields and facial armor. Krana cockpit secure. Stored air: 0%. Nearby sources of air: 0%. The Bohrok frowned as much as a machine could possibly do, which wasn't much. As it processed the last few words, its mind suddenly jolted back to full awareness. No air? Oh, you got to be kidding me.It looked around, suddenly aware that everything was still black except a few lights here and there. It's weightless nature was now painfully obvious. I'm in friggin' space. Nuhvok-Kal should have seen me now. That guy has a sick obsession with placing things in orbit. Lehvak-Kal twisted his head, trying to locate his home, the island of Mata Nui. Unfortunately for him, the island was nowhere to be seen. In fact, the planet itself was nowhere to be seen. He tried to groan in frustration, but no sound came out. Oh, right. Space. With nothing else to do, he tried moving an arm. The limb shuddered a bit, but did not have any problems with operating as it should. Still, the outer armor looked battered and scorched, and the large, claw-like shields attached to the hands were slightly bent. Son of a Rahkshi, I look terrible. Wish I had a mirror... my back's probably even worse. A few minutes later, after checking all his limbs and other systems, Lehvak-Kal was bored. Really bored. So bored, in fact, that he couldn't come up with anything else to think about than how bored he was. Luckily, after getting bored about thinking about how bored he was – and briefly considering going clinically insane just to spice things up – something drifted into view. Something red. What... is that? he thought. The Bohrok tried moving his body towards the thing, but without any means of propulsion that proved impossible. Lehvak-Kal was left swimming in the vacuum, getting increasingly frustrated. He looked at his hand shields. Yeah, you guys were terribly useful... you stupid pieces of scrap. 'Vacuum Shields', hah! You suck. Like, literally suck, because you are vacuu—ohforgetit. You're useless. Always needs to take in air before blowing it out again. Yeah, that worked real well, didn't it? Lehvak-Kal flailed around, desperately trying to move himself, but in space there was nothing he could do. He kept complaining in his mind. I swear, everyone else got cool stuff like super-hot plasma and magnetism and lightning, but I? I get vacuum. Not even air, just vacuum. I got the awesome power of controlling nothing! Friggin' Bahrag, they had it coming... And even when I finally got enough power to do some damage with these shields, they ended up blowing me through three miles of rock and into space. Thank the Great Beings they didn't give my body any way of feeling pain... The red object had gotten closer now. Lehvak-Kal wasn't sure if it was moving towards him or if it was he who was still going forwards from him little mishap back on Mata Nui, but in any case he estimated that it wouldn't take him more than a few minutes to reach it. As minutes became hours, however, Lehvak-Kal got bored again. Whatever the red thing was it was obvious that he was on a collision course with it, but apparently he would rust away before he got that far. For the twenty-first time in twice as many minutes, he aimed his shields at his feet and set the triggers to "blow" before activating their power. And for the twenty-first time in the same amount of attempts, nothing happened. He cursed. Again. *** Even as time passed, Lehvak-Kal's sense of time never failed, and he never lost count of his number of attempts to make his shields work. He was a robot, after all, and even though his "brain" was organic, his personality and way of thinking was hardwired into the body itself, along with several system instruments. Among them was a calculator, and a clock. He knew its way of dividing the day into hours was most likely irrelevant in the middle of deep space, but at least he knew how much time had passed. Lehvak-Kal knew he had blacked out some time after his organics got shaken up from the first three or four impacts on the rough way from the island's underground tunnels and up. He distinctly remembered seeing a bright flash of white with a black silhouette in the middle before he fainted. The Bohrok now realized that what he had seen was the snow on the top of the island's highest mountain, with the silhouette being himself – or rather, the hole he had made. The last recorded time before blackout was 14:10. The last system check happened at 14:42. Lehvak-Kal was confused. I was out for barely half an hour, he thought. I can't possibly have left the planet behind in that time. He shook his head. Maybe Nuhvok-Kal made it collapse in on itself or something. You never know what gravity can do when turned up to eleven. *** 1356, said the calculator. One thousand three hundred and fifty-six, muttered Lehvak-Kal to himself, despite the all-encompassing silence of space. He pointed his shields at his feet again. One thousand three hundred and fifty-seven. Nothing. Curses. *** The red object had definitely grown larger, but it was still miles away, as far as Lehvak-Kal could tell. He had spent the last hour speculating on his current life, and had concluded that he was lucky after all. Sure, he was trapped in space, but he was the sole survivor of an apparent global disaster, and that certainly trumped being a victim of it. At first he had felt a strange sense of loss when he remembered that all his Krana had been left behind in the hive, but he was a machine, and machines tended to get over such trivial matters. His personality wasn't stripped of all emotion, though. He distininctly remembered feeling glee, anger and confusion... but pride had always been the most prominent emotion, especially back when he and the rest of the Bohrok-Kal fought the Toa Nuva. In the end, it was also pride and egomania that resulted in him absorbing too much power. He felt like an amateur villain. Beaten by his own powers. His own, useless powers. How maddingly ironic. His thoughts returned to the Krana stationed in the cockpit inside his brain. He knew that the thing was organic, and that every action he decided to take was somehow being calculated and then performed via it. It was his brain, after all, yet he knew that it had a mind of its own. Krana were shaped like masks, and they were possible to eject in case the Bohrok body got irreparably damaged. Their shape meant that they could also attach themselves to someone's head and control their minds. Krana also had special powers when inside a Bohrok, being able to draw from the Bohrok body's energy in order to do things like creating forcefields or make the Bohrok levitate. And yet, Lehvak-Kal knew that whenever his Krana was changed, he would just black out for a second. His mind did not move with the Krana. He ended up thinking of them simply as organic programs, but he was always a bit paranoid, afraid that they would end up relaying his toughts to everyone else in the swarm. It was their purpose, after all, to think and administrate thoughts. Still, with his personality firmly rooted in his own body, he felt reasonably certain that his thoughts wouldn't be stored in the Krana after removal. He could never be certain of what it was thinking while it acted like his brain, however. Maybe it doesn't think at all? Or does it think whatever I think? Are my thoughts its thoughts until it gets removed? His Krana hurt from thinking too hard. Whatever the case may be, it's certainly strained right now. Better leave the issue alone. With his philospohical debate done, Lehvak-Kal instead assessed the situation at hand. After nearly wrecking his body with an overpowered blast of air from his vacuum shields, he had been launched into space, where he had now been for hours. Luckily he didn't need to breathe, but the lack of air meant that he couldn't propel himself anywhere with his shields. Right now he was drifting towards an unknown location, while his home planet was assumed to be destroyed. All in all, not a good day. In his head sat a Krana Xa-Kal: a Liberator'. Unfortunately, its only power was to awaken the Bahrag, who were now gone. Definitely not his best day. Space was cold. Lehvak-Kal could almost feel his limbs make cracking noises as he kept moving them to prevent freezing. Sooner or later, though, they would definitely freeze, and there was nothing he could do about it. He found himself wishing for a certain Krana which he knew provided resistance to both heat and cold when active, but shook the idea from him. There was no use in wishful thinking. Cold, tactical analysis was all that mattered. Lehvak-Kal fired up his system scan. Warning: Extensive shell damage. Major damage to rear section, minor damage to limbs, hand shields and facial armor. Krana cockpit secure, though chilled. Temperature steadily dropping. Estimated time until fatal freezing: 2 days. Soon enough, he turned the system scan off again and went back to wishful thinking. It made him happier. *** Space wasn't just cold, it was also very empty. Sure enough, there were stars everywhere, but until now Lehvak-Kal hadn't seen anything else of interest. He had shut his system down in order to pour all the energy into defrosting his body, but it hadn't helped. The flashing message on his screen informed him that he had less than a day left before he would freeze to death. Or rather: His Krana would. With it gone, however, the Bohrok couldn't continue to operate. Lehvak-Kal's body would shut down, and then he would be left floating in space as a lifeless hunk of metal forever. If Mata Nui was truly gone, then there would never be any more Krana either, and so there was little chance that he would be picked up and awoken even after a few millennia. Just as he was about to give up all hope, however, another system message flashed in his mind. Suprisingly enough, it was the altitude meter. Height: 300 feet above ground. Lehvak-Kal refreshed it. It must be a mistake. Height: 250 feet above ground. Confused, he looked around. There was nothing in front of him. Height: 200 feet above ground. 150 feet. 100. 50 feet above ground. Warning: Speed too high. Brace for impact. Lehvak-Kal realized what has happening just a moment before he slammed violently into something very, very hard. The shock tore off part of his left leg and made a large dent in his left arm. The world spun until his system managed to recalibrate itself. Once it was done, he felt something strange: gravity. He could tell up from down again. Rolling over onto his front, Lehvak-Kal used his good arm to lift himself slightly off the metallic surface. It was glowing in a bright red color, and was apparently quite hot. He couldn't feel it, but he still welcomed the warmth. The frost in his body was already melting away. What in the blazes...The Bohrok dragged himself over to an apparent seam in the metal. It was clearly marked: Emergency exit. Without a second thought, Lehvak-Kal rammed the tip of his right vacuum shield into the crack. Unfortunately, he was unable to wedge the hatch open. Before long, however, it was flung open, and Lehvak-Kal recoiled as a small, purple being in black armor pointed the muzzle of a laser gun at him. It lifted an eyebrow in surprise, then lowered its weapon and waved for him. Lehvak-Kal crawled over to the hatch and pulled himself into the little chamber inside. The being closed the hatch, then signaled via radio to another. A loud hiss was heard as air poured into the chamber. Lehvak-Kal was relieved to finally hear sound again. "I don't know who you are," he began, but was interrupted by the smaller being. "Shut up!" it said. "You are the one who's going to answer questions here." "Uh..." Lehvak-Kal said, before being rudely interrupted in the form of a laser shot to his right foot. He cursed, and was rewarded with another shot to the same foot. With the Bohrok's left leg too damaged to be of use, they both crumpled under his weight. He was now without legs to stand on. "I said shut up," shouted the being hysterically, "and when I say shut up, you shut up!" "Hey, calm down, I wasn't trying to—" "SHUT UP!" Another laser shot sent one of Lehvak-Kal's shields flying. Hearing it clatter against the wall of the chamber, he wisely decided to shut up. *** Things were looking slightly better than before. True, the insane purple alien had fired enough shots to melt most of Lehvak-Kal's body, but that had mercifully also melted his gun. After that, two of the being's coworkers had arrived, shoved him out the door and taken over interrogations. "What are you doing here?" asked the first. "How did you get out of the robot?" "What robot?" asked Lehvak-Kal, still confused. The second being, who was holding a rectangular piece of metal in his hand, glanced at the other and pointed at something on the metal. "He wouldn't know," he said. "The Bohrok were never meant to see the whole thing." "The whole what?" asked Lehvak-Kal. "The robot whose face you've been cleaning, of course," answered the first being, grabbing the plate and turning it around. On it was an image of a large, Toa-like figure, with a shape resembling the island of Mata Nui carved around its head. Lehvak-Kal's mind churned; puzzle pieces slowly falling into place. The tunnels... the island's "face"... the metal beneath... The purple beings noticed that he went silent and exchanged a telling glance. "This must be one of the older models... it doesn't think very fast." "What do you call this robot, then?" Lehvak-Kal finally asked. "Why, Mata Nui of course." "Mata Nui, after the Great Spirit?" Another glance. Lehvak-Kal felt insulted. "No," answered the being with the tablet. "Mata Nui as in the robot Mata Nui. 'Great Spirit'... What did you think he was? Some kind of god?" The two beings giggled. Lehvak-Kal made a hollow, rattling sound, like metal parts being tossed into a crate. "What was that?" asked one of them. "Oh, nothing, just the last piece of my sanity collapsing, I think," answered Lehvak-Kal. "Never mind that." "Good. Now that that's explained, it's your turn. How did you get out? Why were you in space?" "I got out... around the time my shields overloaded and launched me through a few miles of solid rock and then into friggin' space," Lehvak-Kal answered. "That was two days ago. Since then I've just been drifting, until I finally hit you by sheer luck." "I don't buy that. After the Bohrok-Kal disaster, we assumed you had been blown into the ocean and never bothered searching. That was year ago, by the way. The Bohrok swarms were released again a few days ago and cleansed the island like the extravagant housemaids they were supposed to be. I'll never get why the Great Beings bothered to make them instead of a giant pair of windshield wipers, but that's besides the point. The robot left Aqua Magna immediately afterwards, and arrived at Bara Magna as planned not too long after. After a rather entertaining fight between an old Great Being robot prototype and your own dear home robot, the moons were reunited into Spherus Magna. The prototype fell apart after fullfilling Mata Nui's mission, and your 'bot was, unfortunately, headshotted by a moon. Well, moon fragment; whatever, it was still wicked sick to witness. I wish I had caught it on tape, you would have loved it." Lehvak-Kal was, at this point, more confused than ever. "Mata Nui... is gone?" "Ding ding ding, we have a winner! Technically, he's not gone, his spirit's just dormant in a mask, but the robot is permanently offline, yes. Most of the inhabitants survived, I think, but I don't think we'll be needing the Bohrok anymore. You're without a job, pal. A year ago I wouldn't have thought it possible. But! I digress! Now, tell me: how did you get from Aqua Magna, the moon, to this station? We are approximately 120 000 miles away from your original location. If you were launched a full year ago, you should either have made contact with Bara Magna or lost in deep space after a few days. The chance of you randomly hitting us is next to zero." Lehvak-Kal was still in shock. "One year? A whole year?" The purple being stared at him for a moment before answering. "Yes, that's right. One year." "I blacked out. I never thought I had been out for that long. If what you say is true..." "It is, I guarantee." "...then I'm no longer on the island of Mata Nui, I'm... where, exactly?" "Why, you're in the Red Star, of course." The hollow sound of rattling metal filled the air. *** The sun was shining as Lehvak-Kal touched down on the surface of Spherus Magna. He looked up, and had to shield his new eyes from the sun. In the sky high above him hung the Red Star, which he now knew to be no star at all. Its inhabitants, the Kestora, had told him everything he needed to know about this new world, and they had been kind enough to fix his body. Well, 'fix' was probably not the right word. They didn't have any Bohrok parts accessible, so they had ended up transferring the parts holding his personality into an old Le-Matoran body. Why they had parts from dead Matoran lying around, Lehvak-Kal dared not ask. What was important was that it had worked. He could never pass for a real Matoran, given that the Kestora had still put a Bohrok-esque head on the body, but he wasn't worried about that. He didn't plan on acting like one either. He had asked where his Krana went, but the Kestora had just poked his new chestplate and grinned. He knew something organic was in there, but again he dared not ask just what they had done to it. His mind still worked, so evidently the Krana was either functional or... replaced. By something. In his head. He forced back the urge to scream at the realization. They had also only managed to salvage parts of one of his vacuum shields, but that was fine with him. The useless shields had been reduced to two prongs that now extended from his left hand. They still had enough power left to cause a breeze. Even more useless than before, he thought at first, and tried to pry them off in favor of some other tool. He soon found that he couldn't. "The little purple leprechauns have welded them on," he groaned, before looking over the rest of his arm. It was his old arm, with the dents roughly hammered out. "And yeah, good job on that one, Kestora," he muttered, before setting off in the direction of the fallen Great Spirit robot. *** Two days, lots of walking and lots of muttered curses later, Lehvak-Kal finally reached the settlement he had hoped to see. Just down the hill, he could see Toa, Matoran, Vortixx, Skakdi and plenty of other species he didn't even know the name of working together. For some reason, he felt the urgent need to set up a cleaning and/or demolishing service. There were no fellow Bohrok in sight, however, and without a squad, he couldn't do much. Annoyed, he tapped a working Matoran on the shoulder, and asked: "Hey, pal, do you need some demolishing done? You see, I'm a Bohrok, and—" Lehvak-Kal had, for some reason, fully expected to get a friendly answer. What met him instead was a shocked face and a scream, followed by another few screams from the nearby Matoran, followed by Toa yelling, followed by people running around and panicking and then running some more. Lehvak-Kal could have sworn he heard the words "Franken-Matoran", whatever the blazes that referred to. All in all, it was not his best day.THE END
